    In the frigid north Cam embarks on a journey to save the final drive on a Hitachi 150 excavator. Upon further inspection it looks like the heavy duty mechanic is going to have to do a final drive rebuild. Things start going sideways when the Hitachi excavator won’t start, so you get to see how to jump start an excavator as well as some troubleshooting on a VMAC air compressor.

    Been going through all of Tekamo's videos of Cam, Cam and Carson and Tylor. Been loving it, I'm just a light vehicle mechanic but its really intriguing seeing how heavy duty mechanics day-2-day jobs are and the banter is better than any in my workplace hahah. Much love from Australia!

    Great video!! Although, I will say when you slightly rev up the jump vehicle you will get more amps. Amos is what you need to charge the battery faster.

      If the voltage is the same then no, Ohm's law baby. If your alternator keeps 14V at 900 rpm vs 2200 rpm, the battery doesn't know the difference, only time current goes up is when the V drops, load increases (cranking). And like mentioned, if V drops THEN you may need to raise idle until V is back to 14.5, sometimes that's 100 rpm more, 500 rpm more, on most equipment idle speed is sufficient.

      ​@@BluTechEquipmentyoull get less voltage drop at the boost battery at high idle when cranking the dead one, in that case itll crank easier. But yes, when just charging, no difference idle vs high

      @@TekamoHD I am from Wisconsin and I work for a Komatsu Dealer. We work on all makes and models though. I maintain a fleet of 30 pieces of a Equipment at a mine consisting of Hm400s, WA500s, pc650, and Some dozers. I stay pretty busy!

    I've got a Tiny 2cycle 12/24v battery charger/generator. It's maybe 35cc, and will charge your 24v machine, even varying the charge as the batteries refill (has a tiny servo rigged to the carburator) The little thing is Insane. Prolly one of the first Invertor generators. There is absolutely no doubt it is the lightest/smallest generator ever made (great for planes as well). Will actually run my 15amp skill saw or table saw. Weighs like 20-25lbs, probably less than just your csbles :o. [they were made by Robin/Fuji heavy industries and marketed by Subaru in N.America.]

    Couple good whacks with a little sledge on those final plugs would’ve done the trick. Could’ve took them out with a 3/8s then

    My GMC Envoy needs to be revved up when I’m boosting my JD 1010 Crawler. Just putting it on the battery you can see all the lights dime and when I crank, it’ll almost kill the engine on the Envoy. On my 5.9l Cummins, it doesn’t change anything, revved up or idle is the same.

      @@TekamoHD So far its been flawless but it is a machine so tomorrow could be a different story. The big thing for me is just what you talked about, room to work. I can flip the hood over and touch any part with ease. Plus I'm 6'4" so the tall trucks fit me better. I've run shitty and nice trucks of all brands, the man makes the truck not the other way. I can tell your like me, we can show up in an Uber with an adjustable wrench and get shit fixed! Keep up the good work!

    We always use a Berner 12/24V Starter pack, we've never hat an engine that thing couldnt crank, they are expensive though.

    3:21 from my understanding you do only get 0.2 volts if your lucky when reving it up but you also get extra amperage pumping through because your alternator thinks your own battery has lower amperage and it’s easier to produce with high revs

    Yeah it’s hydrogen gas that gets off gassed by the batteries while charging from dead. I use a jump pack and I always try to find a good ground away from the battery like clean frame point or bolt or something.

      @@TekamoHD you should show people how to jump start 24v, alot of people dont know and they hook up from a 12v truck to how the batteries are on machine and smoke things. Seen it more then twice. I hook them up like its a 12v system even though they show wired different at batteries on the 24v machine

      Just a 3/4 & 1". I actually gave a bunch of my old air tools to a buddy starting in the trade. I planned to get myself a new air to replace but just ended up getting more cordless stuff.

    Hey cam, if your service truck has an inverter and crane, why’d you never get it upgraded to 24 volt, normally some inverters will run 24v with a second battery in Parallel with the truck battety, just curious, I recently started building service vans and service trucks in the us but love your content man👍👍👍👍

      Charging the batteries alone doesnt need more ampreage, amps are like the flow rate of a pump, the pressure will always be 14v and youre trying to achive the "pressure" of 14v in the batteries, now if you try to crank the engine of the excavator the starter will pull a lot of flow and the voltage will drop, then you have to rev the engine to pump more flow.

      Gray market generally means not purchased originally in North America. Usually these are overseas machines. When you buy a 'Gray Market' machine from well known brands like Hitachi, Cat, (and especially Komatsu) parts are 'usually' easy to get from your local dealer. Also of course there are many sources online to get replacement parts (whether aftermarket or OEM).

    not all cars produce full voltage at idle, many produce max voltage of 14.4 at 2000 rpm and something 13.2 at idle. just a fun fact

    everything on service truck should be pto driven that sucks to have to rely on a belt feel sorry for you to have to ask your customer for an air hose do you like the crane on the drivers side or passenger side just curious mine is on passenger side if theres a difference would like to no

      I definitely dislike asking customers for tools/help. Luckily these guys are regulars and are very good guys to work with so not really as big a deal. As far as the crane goes, I've ran a mix of both and definitely prefer the driver side mounted cranes. Makes for a bit more weight as my tools are on the driver side, but my welder, waste oil tank and heavy sockets/wrenches and fittings are on the passenger side to compensate.

    Why do you guys them grey market? A Ex120 dash 1 or FH130 dash 1 was better than them 150 dash ones

    Cam is rite working on small stuff is shit sometimes..really cramped on all this newer vechiles in engine bay..and all the plastic loves to break on a guy.. during cold Wisconsin winter especially..ask me how I know.

    Such ironic timing your talking about jumpstarting a vehicle the day i walked up to my car and it was flat on its face dead, what makes it funny is because yes your right i dont carry a multimeter around with me but the phone charger i have does actually have a volt meter on it, little shitty car trying to charge a big cars battery. At idle on his crumby alternator the car was only seeing 11v, with a rev it brought it up to 12.5, shame it was the only car to help but got it running in the end

      I fully agree and when I was a light vehicle mechanic it was the same. I never understood it, not only am I protecting my hands but I'm keeping them cleaner for when I take the customers car for a test drive at the end of a job.

    Yep! Most mechanic's trucks are a POS. Lots of Low Maintenance! Lol I can feel your pain, and Ford's don't help either.

    Your right about one thing....fords are shit ..there quality in the last 10 or 15 years is piss poor and that's across the board....

      Out of all the truck's I've run, I'd still take this 6.7 over the Ram's and International's. Ran a T300 for a bit, reliable, but the cabs are wayyy too small. The Ford's are by far the most comfortable trucks though, running 12-16 hr days, 4-5 hrs in the seat one way sometimes.
