- Tonight, Black Sabbath will play their final gig at the Hollywood Bowl. Thought I'd share this rare live recording of one of my favourite Sabbath tunes - "Under the Sun".
Beyond heavy!
Track taken of their fourth album "Vol.4", from 1972.
LOOOOUDER!!!
That intro is always my suggestion for "the heaviest riff ever". It's like being slowly crushed by a boulder being pulled by a Brontosaurus.
that "YEAHHH" in the beginning of the main riff is just something else.. Not gonna mention how perfect Ozzy sang the song
First band I ever saw live. Had that poster on my bedroom wall as a teenager. Ah! memories.
JUST IMAGINE EAR THIS SON LIVE IN 1972....MIND BLOWING.
Id give anything to see Sabbath in 1970-72
The Moment when you realize, AGAIN, that Bill Ward is every bit as Magnificent as Tony, Ozzy and Geezer...
They’re the backbones of Sabbath. Such a killer rhythm section.
Agree 100%
He is.
1972... Imagine hearing this for the first time, and it's live. There had to have been some minds blown in that tough crowd.
Great Sabbath show/with rare tunes!!👍👍💨💨🍺🍺💧💧👅 Get High ...💊💊
LOUDER!!! LOUDEEEER!!!
Black Sabbath: I gotchu fam
Good thing that guy TOLD them to be LOUDER! SAVED the history of music single handedly!!
Tomorrow's Dream
Sweet Leaf
War Pigs
Snowblind
Iron Man
Under The Sun (Everyday Comes & Goes)
Wheels Of Confusion
Children Of The Grave
Set list -- I was there. Vol. 4 had not been released. Imagine hearing all those classics before most of the rest of the world. It was a scene. The undercard stunk and got booed off with firecrackers. What wild night. Tony didn't come out for any encore. Too much cocaine, Ozzy told me.
Yeah I think it was Gentle Giant on first or Captain Beyond
I think Gentle Giant was first. All I remember is after the Giant abruptly left, after the Set Up, the Singer shouted, Are you ready for Captain Beyond, and the whole crowd booed screamed and started throwing things!
Isn't the concert where Tony was attacked by some knife-wielding fanatical Satanist on-stage while he was about to start the intro to War Pigs or play a flute part melody break during one of their few, ballad songs (yes, early Sabbath had a few softer-sounding ballads or bluesy songs they still played from their Birmingham club days). I think this incident, along with the burgeoning drug use and nearly incessecant touring they'd be doing for almost 2 years convinced them to take some time off for a little while.
It really wouldn't surprise me if this show also occurred while the band was still doing the finishing touches up on Vol. 4 in the rented mansion they used in Bel-Air to rehearse and record the material for the album.
Sure would love to hear a soundboard recording of this, another Classic Sabbath banger.
67-Seven+ Million $ ,and It's Free !!
Yeah but sadly I don't think there's any soundboard recording of this from 1972 which is a shame but who knows someone will probably dig up a forgotten bootleg soundboard recording from that year that has this song in fantastic quality I just pray this is true
What a killer band !!! Hard rock, Metal and doom before it existed !!!!!!🤟🤟🤟🤟
Man, Tony Iommi wrote so many great riffs. He's the best. And Blackmore the best lead guitarist. Love em both.
@@callumtanner992 better at leads yes he is by a mile lol
Itchy whack more?
Iommi is the greatest riff writer of all time, hands down, but as far as leads, Ritchie Blackmore's soloing on Gates of Babylon is on an entirely different level, especially in 1978.
Such a magnificent version damn I was just a kid at that time glad I was old enough to be around the best music Black Sabbath will always be the best no one comes close
Phenomenal live version of this now- Classic!! Ozzy does sound coked up but awesome regardless!
Ia ia shub niggurath!
The middle 8 is the earliest punk rock song recorded
In 1972 everyone else sounded like rolling stones and led zeppelin at best. If anything they sounded like the mammas and the pappas. This was way way ahead of their time. Insane!! 🎸
when they launched into this song that nite I konked out for a moment cos it was everything I'd hoped for but too heavy to handle under the circumstances of being redded out and barely able to stay conscious, unlike my friends who all had their heads on their knees lol Sabbath rarely played this tune live and it was a dream come true to hear it. openers Captain Beyond blew the place away just like they did with Alice Cooper a few months apart.
I was there. Iomi was sick and they only played 6 songs at most.
The cocaine got the better of him..
snowblind
larry callahan I fell in love with Captain Beyond at that concert. Sabbath did disappoint however, they have made up for it a billion times over😎
One of my favs. Relatively obscure Sabbath
simply brilliant. thank you black sabbtah!!!
4:06 onwards is the greatest!
“LOUDER!!!!!”
Thank you for posting this. Super heavy intro. I didnt know it was part of their set list back then. Its a bit like hearing that bootleg of wheels of confusion that was up on youtube about 10 years back. A lovely surprise.
LOUDER
Digging it.
Oh fuck yeah man! ❤
Great version
YEEEAAAAAAAHHHHHH
Yeah ye gods just too good
*LOUDEER*
They answered.
🤘
Bill's breaks superior to Clufetos's (and C was sober)
Clufetos is also 30 years younger then Ward and without the health problems. Interesting how that is always left out lol. Be honest with yourself. If Bill Ward couldn't get through a tour in 1998 without having a heart attack do you think he would have made it through a tour in 2013-16 playing at a high level? I don't think so.
You could argue that their first 2 or 3 albums were not much heavier than other music released at that same time and even before, but you can’t deny that Vol.4 was the heaviest music to ever be released at the time. Imagine hearing the Beatles, David Bowie and Led Zeppelin for a few years and then all of a sudden Vol.4 comes out and it’s the heaviest and loudest music you’ve ever heard in your life. Amazing.
Agree and also- this particular track is probably the heaviest song ever recorded at the moment it was first heard. The intro and outro is chilling...so fucking heavy!!
Master Of Reality Is Pretty Damn Heavy
What about into the void on master of reality that’s probably their heaviest song
Too bad Sabbath first 4 records have a shitty production. The drums sound like a cardboard. That's why songs like this one sound much better live.
I can argue. From the first album, Black Sabbath where heavier than other music released at the time.
Nr 1
Louder
This is the show where Tony Iommi was almost stabbed on stage.
2:18
Too bad the recording isn't so good, sounds like a great performance...
Metallica wishing they could be as heavy as this
Here you can see a Mustaine's Widow in its natural habitat
to be fair, James will automatically concede LOL
overly sarcastic productions
Recorded with a potato.
The devil' music
Go to hell preacher it's not
