    There is a reason why this style of knife is still viable. It’s one of my favourite blade forms.

    It takes a lot of work and dedication to put these videos out. Thank you to the team, editors, and everyone else who makes this happen. I know you wouldn’t do it if you didn’t enjoy it. Blades are cool!!

    _Cannot believe how much "paint wear" the blade took.. yes I said paint because with the amount of wear that thing already shows it reminds me of the days when Cold Steel used to just use black paint on their knives! I would really think that Spartan would opt for a much much more durable coating like DLC. They may claim that this is some kind of PVD or Cerakote... I would argue NO.. NO WAY!!! Your "light use" proved plenty enough as to why whatever it is they are using is just not up to snuff for these fixed blades! They need to consider using something else!_

    I love kukris, I have 3. I think it's the most versatile design blade. Tool, weapon, it does it all. I love the balance. If I was going to some adventure and could only take one blade, it's gonna be a kukri, but they are a bit large. This looks like a great size and for a very reasonable price.

    This blade design was encountered by the Romans when they started their incursion into modern day Spain . The Greeks possessed it as well . Alexander the great sword design was similar to this but larger . I always wonder if the people in the area that use the kuhkri nowadays adopted it from the Greeks . Because they made it as far as modern day Afghanistan and northern India during their military campaigning and exploration. Thank you for the videos my friend they are greatly appreciated 👍🌄. Cheers 🍻

    I collect and use Nepalese made Khukuri's, on the topic of the knife being poor at finer work: the real deals almost always come with a smaller knife called a karda designed for those tasks. It is kept in the back of the sheath. A well designed Khukuri will have a nicely hilted karda, many come with trash karda's and chakmaks, the handles being tiny and difficult to use. I've gotten a few with a decent karda that actually serves as a fantastic small knife. I realize that adding an additional karda to this knife would be cost prohibitive but it would add a lot of utility in one sheath. Good review overall, khukuri's are absolute beasts at chopping.

    The problem I've had is the Spartans made by KA-BAR come with some horrible edges, and I've heard many actual KA-BARs have been coming dull as well over the last few years. Pretty sad to see from their US factory. Glad this one worked out. My Alala was quite literally duller than a butter knife.

    • @RyanLovesReds
      @RyanLovesReds Před 8 měsíci

      Yea, my Kabar was sharp at first but went dull quickly (dogear model) but I think it’s a matter of just putting a really good edge on it yourself or another professional since they probably just do a quick sharpen to keep production costs lower.

    I just received this Kukri today. It is heavier than I would have expected for its size, but it's about perfect. Maybe had they made it in 3/16" thick instead, it'd be a little lighter. I like that its sheath isn't so bulky as the Condor K-Tact Kukri and it doesn't have that boomerang shape like a regular Kukri. It's really nice. I likes it. 😊

Think traditional kukris are too thick , too heavy and have inconsistent QC and the sheath are cool looking but not that great. Trad kukris are made from leaf spring steel and are ridiculously thick ( 1/4 inch an up ...) and act like a malformed ax more than a knife...

    G'day Aaron, very cool. A lot to be said for a good kook, they make so much sense for an array of applications, though I am glad the the ol' Bk-9 is in the same conversation : ) and I still like a good parang to avoid sharpening an internal re-curve, (yet still provide the front heavy weight), to be honest.
    Incidentally; my dad has an old, traditional, kook, I believe given to him by a Gurkha some time during his military career, doesnt want to speak much about it, but having handled it a coupla times, I can tell you its beast and beauty rolled into one. So frick'n sharp and indeed well used, it has significantly cut into, but not yet split, the leather sheath, (who knows; cow, horse, pig, llama, yak, camel, goat skin, lol). ........ So good point on the withdrawal mate, ......... and not just to avoid dulling the edge. A very ornate and flared pommel, yes very oxidised, as you'd expect for the vintage, best guess, a coupla hundred years old, ... maybe less, but I'm think'n a bit more ? I strongly suspect it was a generational hand me down.
    Anyway, for one of man's oldest and most valuable tools, so pleased to see blade makers still doing the oldies, but goldies. Worthy then, and just as worthy now, ....... especially with a steel upgrade ; )
    Cheers Duke.
    P.s . "Feather-sticking" is a good enough term for me. .,....fuzz is for scrapings ..... of well ..... fuzz IMO ; )

    It's a good review and basically you are saying the jimping and that wedge are useless. I agree! I disagree that the kukri design is a world hit. It's not. It's basically Nepal, the UK and the USA where it's a 'hype'. I did not see locals use them in South America, Africa and the parts of Asia I visited and they work with machetes all day long. You see a lot of styles of machetes and none of them are kukri style. So possibly it's a good fighting knife, although the military worldwide never did adopt it, but it sure is not the best camp knife or machete style. As is the BK2 is just a hype. I bought the BK2, opened the box, had a look and a feel and put it right back in the box and sold it. I also have several kukri's in my knife collection but they are just in my collection and never the knife I choose to take outdoors. I also don't understand this 'American made' hype. For sure it's good to support the local economy but it's not that the US makes the best knives. In fact in many cases the US makes expensive 'hype' knives in outdated steels.

    • @Swearengen1980
      @Swearengen1980 Před 10 měsíci

      The UK, solely because of the Gurkhas association. In America, I think the popularity of the kukri is due to the evolution of bushcraft as a hobby. South America, Asia....different terrain that requires machetes, plus they're not using it as a survival or wood working tool. Compare that to going into to say the Appalachians in dense hard woods where you're chopping wood, etc; the two scenarios are apples to oranges.

    • @stevanoutdoor
      @stevanoutdoor Před 10 měsíci

      @@Swearengen1980 What makes you think people in South (and Middle) America, Asia and Africa don't use machetes on hardwood? Sure for the US, UK and other parts of Europe bushcraft and survival is a hobby. For the people in many parts of the continents mentioned bushcraft and survival is how they live every day. They cook daily on hardwood. Not a hobby at all. Of course they have different machetes for different tasks. Some have a long thin blade more for brush and grassland and they also have a thikker shorter and heavier one used on hardwood. They also have many different styles for different tasks. But NONE of them have the kukri shape or at least during my travels did not see one. Not in the stores and not with any of the people using machetes day in and out.
      So I feel very safe to say that the kukri is NOT a world hit. It's a hype! In the UK is has indeed this 'romantic' feeling of the Gurkha troops and in the US basically everything bushcraft is a hype.

    I have the BK-2 not a fan it’s tough but it’s just to thick and heavy especially for the length I also have kabar’s older kukri and Ontario’s kukri both are great and priced very well less than 1/2 the price of this smaller version 🤷‍♂️ and I’ve changed my mind on the kukri design over time and prefer a regular machete kukris look great and work great for chopping not so much clearing lighter brush though and I’ve started staying away from recurved blades the deeper the curve the more I don’t like it these days. I also bought a set of rocky talkies after seeing your video on the lake big fan. It’s feathersticks just an FYI fuzz sticks sounds like something a person who’s lite in the pants would say 😂

    Have you tested the strength of the tang at the handle entry.
    I've seen many kabars break at that stress point.
    Right where the steel enters the handle under the wood or whatever is being used for the handle.
    My only concern about this knife because of that.

    Hey I was just curious if you had done any videos with the Ontario khukri versus the K bar combat khukri. I have an Ontario at home as well as traditional Khukri’s but I’m looking to replace my Ontario. I have really liked it but it showing some age and there is a slight bit of movement at the front of the handle. It’s really not a lot to worry about it’s very minimal. So I have thought about getting another Ontario since this one had been so good, but I’m also considering the Kabar combat khukri, which one is better or do you have some comparison videos between the two?

      Try Kailash Blades. They make incredible pieces. I have one of their Mutiny models, and because of how they do things, every single one is unique. It’s made in the traditional way with leaf spring blades and materials they either get within Nepal or by making the material themselves. They even have designs and patterns made by the blacksmiths themselves to show how skilled they are, alongside a ton of traditional and more modern patterns of Nepalese knives
