    I’ve been growing bromeliads for many years, both outdoors & as houseplants. They did beautifully in my Santa Barbara garden happily growing 7 blocks away from the ocean where they relished the moisture from the coastal fog. I’ve grown them in my homes in New York City, San Francisco & now here in Tucson. A few questions have come my way about this topic so I want to share with you how I water bromeliad plants indoors.
    Bromeliads are easy to care for both indoors & out. If you’re new to the world of houseplant gardening be sure to give 1 a go & you’ll be hooked on them in no time. Even though these pineapple relatives are native to the tropics and subtropics, they tolerate dry air & growing mix just fine. Just know that it’s much better to keep them on the dry side rather than consistently wet - rot will be their demise faster than you can say “aechmea fasciata“!
    Find out how I water my bromeliads, how often I water my bromeliads & other things which are good to know.

    I bought a gorgeous bromeliad with a keiki at a plant show at my local botanical garden. The guy I bought it from told me to keep the cup full at all times. So I did. It died. Thanks for the clarification on this. I can't believe the bad information I've gotten at nurseries and the botanical garden. When I have a question, I look to you. Thanks for being there.

      @@sunnyh4570 I am wondering the same thing? Let it dry out. The cup. And then add a small amount or mist it? I can see where rot could easily set in. I think I will water very conservatively initially

    I am finding that I may have thrips damage on my beautiful new Neoregelia... Yesterday I wiped it down with alcohol then dumped the dirt out of the pot. Disinfected the pot, got rid of the old dirt and then replaced it. Then I sprayed it really well with insecticidal soap. I stuck the yellow sticky tape beside to scoop up anything that I didn’t get. hope it makes it. She’s so beautiful

    Hello Nell. I really enjoy your videos. I started growing Bromeliads very successfully on my patio in New Orleans. But, now I'm in SW AL and started collecting again. Never had problems with insects eating them until now. Can you recommend a product to treat for slugs, spider mites and caterpillars? I've done research but can't really find a definitive answer. I have Neem Oil, Malathion and BT but don't know which one is best. Also have mustard yellow mushrooms. I'd appreciate your recommendations. Thanks

    Are bromeliads sensitive to trans plant? I bought my wife a bromeliad from H-E-B the other day and it came in a small pot of soil/perlite mixture so I assumed it was safe to transplant into an organic soil I had laying around, after some researched I’ve decided Id like to transplant to orchid bark, but am wondering if I should give it some time before the transplant and if it’d be safe to wash away some of the soil from the roots.

    Hello!!! It’s so good I found you, your videos are great. I wonder if you could help me. My guzmania came in a moss pot but it was set on a vase with those gel color spheres. I don’t know if that’s keeping the plant over humid, or maybe the mother plant is just dying, because it has those yellowish brown stains mostly in the center leaves and flower. Do you think I should keep it there, or take it out of the vase and put it in a dry planter so it’s not so wet? Tnx!

    My first bromeliad is more like the one you cut the flower off of, so I'm a newbie to them. How possible is it for the plant to grow "pups" that can be transplanted, and how long before they "bloom"? Thanks, and now subscribed! : )

    • @DiscipleGames
      @DiscipleGames Před 2 lety +1

      The bromeliad will produce pups after flowering (you can see a nice big pup on the right side of the plant @ 5:25) and the plant will put its energy into growing the pups as it dies. You can separate the pup and its roots from the main plant at pretty much any time, but the longer you wait, the shorter the bloom time will be. A newly-planted bromeliad pup should flower in about 3 years and then produce pups of its own.

You said you were going to talk about your indoor bromeliads, but you kept making reference to thinks to do with the outdoors. You talked about temperature and weather conditions, etc. that have nothing to do with inside your home. It was really confusing.
