Did you know the Marvel Comics character Captain America's civilian name, Steve Rogers, comes from the telegraphy term "roger" which means "message received"?
Jack Kirby and Joe Simon created Captain America in 1941 as pro-World War II propaganda, and originally considered the name "Super American" for the hero.
However, Simon felt that there were already too many comic book characters with "super" in their names.
