Gorkhas are the protectors of dharma. I am a non Gorkha , I have heard about their unrivalled bravery and their discipline. An example of their skill in warfare, small group of Gorkhas caused the unconditional surrender of thousands of Pakistani soldiers during the war. That is due to the reputation of the Gorkhas that reaches the enemy even before a single bullet is fired or the Khukri is drawn. The Indian nation, nay the whole world owes the Gorkhas for their service in maintaining peace and keeping the forces of darkness away. Thank you Gorkha on behalf of the civilised world.

Thanks for the good coverage of 58 GTC, my father joined the 8 GR there as a young boy before the WW II. He fought in Arakans, Burma and was a member of Chindit expedition too. Till the early 20th century Kathmandu Valley was known as the Nepal. There were 3 main kingdoms in the valley, Kantipur, Bhaktapur n Lalitpur, were ruled by the Malla kings. In the 18 th century, Prithivi Narayan Shah, King of Gorkha, 100 km West of Kathmandu, started expanding his kingdom and conquered the Kathmandu Valley in 1780s. His daughter in law n second son Bahadur Shah, continued further expansion and new Nepal extended from Teesta river in the East to Sutlej in the West. The Gorkhali Army fought with China and Great Britain during the expansion, the super powers of the era, and proved their bravery. The British realising the fighting qualities of the Gorkhas, decided to recruit them into their Army.

Gorkha are a perfect fighting machine because they are from hilly areas with not so much of body mass...they were of average 5.5ft in height with a light and healthy body + warrior mindset. Also,money mean very little thing for the hilly people.

Maj Gaurav you could have also included the centuries old Indo-Nepal bond (a part of our sanathan dharma) and how deeply our culture and heritage are intertwined. Also the respect the Indian army has for these brave hardy people who consider India as their home. You could have also included a few of the epic and famous battles fought by them for e.g. The Battle of Cassino, the Falkland war where they were the first wave of troops sent in by the British. Also list out the decorations earned by their units. A few words on their simple trusting nature and what a happy go lucky people they are. A coverage of their Dusshera celebrations. Othewise an excellent piece of reporting. Well done.

My brother was a martyr of kargil war, His name was Martyr Arun Kumar Rai, he was from 1/11 Gorkha Rifles. At 12:48, Major you mentioned that all the recruitments are from Nepal and because of such statement, we Indian Gorkha are not considered an Indian at all and face discrimination everyday and people have misconception that all the Gorkhas are from Nepal, for this reason only wanted to clarify on that, though I do have a huge respect for you and don't have any doubts on your intelligence but there are 1.30 crore Indian Gorkhas and most of the recruitments for Gorkha Regiments are done from different parts of India like Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Sikkim, Dehradun, Uttarakhand etc and yes I agree to you that still Gorkhas from Nepal are also recruited but you will find mostly Indian Gorkhas nowadays in our Gorkha Regiments. I am clarifying on this only becuase you are a respected, iconic person and your words are of so much value, I only wanted is that people should not have misinformation. Gorakhas are mare martial race those who makes fun must read history it’s a race who are born warriors. britishers were not fool they tested them and due to this race they won may battles and so on they are still creating history and they will continue it in future also and Nepal have same destiny and culture I wish both to become becomes one.

Thanks for the good coverage of 58 GTC, my father joined the 8 GR there as a young boy before the WW II. He fought in Arakans, Burma and was a member of Chindit expedition too.
Till the early 20th century Kathmandu Valley was known as the Nepal. There were 3 main kingdoms in the valley, Kantipur, Bhaktapur n Lalitpur, were ruled by the Malla kings. In the 18 th century, Prithivi Narayan Shah, King of Gorkha, 100 km West of Kathmandu, started expanding his kingdom and conquered the Kathmandu Valley in 1780s.
His daughter in law n second son Bahadur Shah, continued further expansion and new Nepal extended from Teesta river in the East to Sutlej in the West.
The Gorkhali Army fought with China and Great Britain during the expansion, the super powers of the era, and proved their bravery.
The British realising the fighting qualities of the Gorkhas, decided to recruit them into their Army.

Gorkha are a perfect fighting machine because they are from hilly areas with not so much of body mass...they were of average 5.5ft in height with a light and healthy body + warrior mindset.
Also,money mean very little thing for the hilly people.
And they don't have altitude sickness they have unmatchable endurance

@Raghav Namasivayam Nepali people are strong because our country is full of mountains and hills normal people can't even walk in mountain places but we run in mountains in higher altitude we carry 40,50 kg of loads walking in mountains now life is little bit easier we don't have to carry loads because of roads facilities

Maj Gaurav you could have also included the centuries old Indo-Nepal bond (a part of our sanathan dharma) and how deeply our culture and heritage are intertwined. Also the respect the Indian army has for these brave hardy people who consider India as their home. You could have also included a few of the epic and famous battles fought by them for e.g. The Battle of Cassino, the Falkland war where they were the first wave of troops sent in by the British. Also list out the decorations earned by their units. A few words on their simple trusting nature and what a happy go lucky people they are. A coverage of their Dusshera celebrations.

My brother was a martyr of kargil war, His name was Martyr Arun Kumar Rai, he was from 1/11 Gorkha Rifles. At 12:48, Major you mentioned that all the recruitments are from Nepal and because of such statement, we Indian Gorkha are not considered an Indian at all and face discrimination everyday and people have misconception that all the Gorkhas are from Nepal, for this reason only wanted to clarify on that, though I do have a huge respect for you and don't have any doubts on your intelligence but there are 1.30 crore Indian Gorkhas and most of the recruitments for Gorkha Regiments are done from different parts of India like Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Sikkim, Dehradun, Uttarakhand etc and yes I agree to you that still Gorkhas from Nepal are also recruited but you will find mostly Indian Gorkhas nowadays in our Gorkha Regiments. I am clarifying on this only becuase you are a respected, iconic person and your words are of so much value, I only wanted is that people should not have misinformation. I am your huge fan and have a deep respect for your works. May blessings of the God be always be with you. Gorkha is a Gorkha whether he/she is from India or Nepal, "Bravest of the Brave".
