  • Decided the brush chipper would be more useful as a stump grinder.

    Love it. Looks dangerous and it works great. Anything that makes people get all scared for your safety is a thumbs up.

    I wish you could have showed us more of your stump grinder. What I did see was impressive

    That spike was a clever addition.

    my dearly departed dad would weld up a bunch of scrap metal and create very useful machines .
    Damn good work here.

    That lock down rear bar looks great, rental grinders dont have that. That blade is spinning faster then a circular saw blade, looks like barely a 2:1 ratio. Hope your engine runs better.

    I think this thing works really great. I would add a spring loaded belt tensioner just to keep those belts from bouncing around. Other than that its a work horse. Some eye protection might be considered

      It now has a lever/idler setup to clutch the belt and smaller pulleys on the engine. There's also some hoop guides to keep the belts in their space.

    It would have been nice to see how the cutting wheel was made, and what kind of teeth it has.this wouldn't work on oak stumps in Florida

    It looks like the belts were hitting the frame should have had a jack shaft, clutch. The blade should be 6" larger.

    *You just need a gocart centrifugul slip clutch and a chain and you won't have the slipping issue*

      Chain would stretch and wouldnt last long. It also would get quite warm

      Thanks! It got a few changes after this vid: smaller pulley on the engine, lever operated idler so I can clutch it, and belt guides similar to a riding mower drive belt. I'll have to get an updated vid made in the spring.

    Looks like your grinding gear ratios are not optimal. You need to gear the machine much better so that it delivers more torque to the cutting bit.

  • @volvo09
    @volvo09 Před 8 lety

    the pulley combo is setup to spin the grinder head way too fast, it's putting the engine at a disadvantage, and spinning that cutter head way too fast. if a tip breaks off that wheel its going to fly out like it came from a shotgun blast. change those pulleys and it'll be better.

    • @krawlr
      @krawlr  Před 8 lety

      Has a smaller pulley now.

    Nice. Where did you get the grinder head and blades?

    • @krawlr
      @krawlr  Před 8 lety +1

      It's a Toro Quadrablade, 4 segments with 3 teeth each. Hub was home made on the lathe.

    you need a safety guard on that flopping belt, if the belt broke, it would put you eyes out. BE CAREFUL DUDE.
