With thanks to her grandmother, Angelina grew up listening to many jazz greats among which are Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, Nina Simone, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra and, like this song demonstrates, Etta James. She arranges all her own music, even changing some of the lyrics to covers she's done to make them more "age appropriate" for her age when she recorded them. Phenomenal talent, for sure!

Everything she does is her call. I think it's often overlooked by most reactors who only tend to concentrate on the voice, but she is a unique girl even without the voice. Her not wearing shoes, her ability to emphasise different parts of the song and the thing that is most often overlooked she's not singing in her own language. She is not just one in a million, she's one in 8 billion.

Angelina discovered jazz by listening to her grandma Mery's jazz collection. She then went to CZcams, and looked up the names she had taken off grandma's albums for more. She was a regular weekend visitor to a local Oslo Jazz cafe, where she browsed through jazz albums and CD's and listened for more. Jazz is in her veins! Angelina said, “I have to say if it wasn’t for the unconditional love that came from Billie Holiday’s legendary music, there would not be Angelina Jordan today. There is another video of Angelina rehearsing this song at age 7 but for this performance she is around her 9th birthday. Angelina was still suffering from a cold after performing at the outdoor ceremony for the Nobel Peace Prize. This performance was to benefit a charity so of course there was no chance she wouldn't sing. Angelina works her magic by using her congestion to add something extra to this Etta James classic. Angelina always picks the songs she performs. After singing Gloomy Sunday, there was a man congratulating Jordan backstage and said, no other kids liked jazz and she sings jazz like a God. There is a video showing Angie going to the Jazz Cafe in Oslo to listen to jazz for countless hours.

As a musician myself and lead singer I will listen to a song a few times before I perform it live I am assuming that Angelina does the same thing but I wasn't doing that at 8 years old I was playing with model airplanes and eight year old girls should not be able to sing like this excuse me while I go bang my head against the wall
I started doing exactly that when I first started listening to Angelina, and now all my friends keep asking me how I got such an interesting "cratered" texture on all my walls. (Many of them have even asked for the name of my interior designer.) Lol.
CaSuaL, she is older than 7 here, I think she's either almost 9 or just turned 9. Angelina chooses all the music she sings & does all her own arrangements. I think "Team Angelina" is Mom (Sara Astar) who is the CEO with veto power over all. Angelina does everything involving the music. Business Manager & Uncle (Michael Astar) does legal, promotion & scheduling. Grandma (Mery Zamini) is the Artistic Consultant/Mentor in charge of hair, wardrobe, video production & documentation. Little sister (Juliette Astar) is the backup dancer & mascot. Happy 15th Birthday Angie.
Angelina can hear the notes in her head which she then reproduces with your voice she's probably hearing the notes a little bit of ahead of time and her head so she knows exactly what to sing next

Angelina was very ill, but since the concert was for a children’s charity, like the little trooper she is, she came to sing. That’s why her voice is slightly hoarse and nasal. She still gave a stunning interpretation, and as usual made it her own.
Jazz has been in her lif, she was raised on it thanks to her grandparents
G&T Reactions. Her Grandmother is very much into jazz. So as a very young child, Angelina heard all these songs on a regular basis. This helped Angelina develop her unique (at such a young age) singing style. Angelina is totally in charge of what she sings and does all her own arrangements. She is also a very good listener to others' suggestions and works well with the musicians she works with... they affectionally call her the 'boss'. Her parents only put their foot down, when they think the lyrics of a song are totally inappropriate for a girl of such a young age to sing. Hence the change in lyrics of the songs 'Back to Black' and 'Valerie'. In fact, she rewrote Back to Black on her way to do the recording; that is why you see her reading the lyrics in the video of the reaction you did recently.

I think that the effect that Angelina manages to give to the songs she sings is very much related to why she chooses one song over another. She has to feel in tune not only with the music, but especially with the lyrics and I think this is one of the main reasons, she tells the story that the song contains, in hers own way splendid.

The reason she sounded a little off is because she was still getting over a cold, which is probably why she didn't look as happy with her performance as normal afterwards. Still an incredible performance. And what integrity to go out on stage and perform knowing you won't sound 100%!
