  • Sugar Creek in Indiana is one of the finest waters in Indiana...heck, maybe in our great and glorious country. A float down this tributary of the Wabash will take you back in time as you search for big smallmouth lurking in its fast moving waters. This video finds me catching several nice smallies...with one just a tad over 20 inches. Remember to give the video a like and if you have fly fishing questions find me at www.flyfishingw....

I float and fish sugar creek throughout the summer season! Always a good time! Sugar creek is gold!

Love watching your videos, sure do miss my Ohio smallmouth streams. Seems that fishing was usually good when water was off color a little. Keep up the good work Jeff, really enjoy!

Another fine video Jeff. I think you found the "pot of bronze" long before the rain came! Thanks for sharing your adventure with us.

Excellent Jeff! Oh no, rain delay. That one fish was a beaut! Take care.

Nice second fish!! Couple questions for you:
    1) how are you going to get back to your car since you’re floating alone?
    2) why are you using such a long leader for streamers?
Appreciate your perspectives! Looks like you’re doing well

I always have a ride that picks me up at the other end of my run....often fish with another person and we hopscotch down the river. As for the leader.....not sure what long is and frankly it has been a while since I have thought much about this video; usually I use something in the range of 5-8 feet in total length....the clearer the water the longer the leader....

I've fished this section a lot. Plenty of good smallies. I didn't recognize where you put in at though. Was it a private put in? The only thing I don't like about sugar is the outfitters own most of the access points. It makes it tough for people with their own vessels to run the river without using the outfitters.

Have you ever fished the brule in Wisconsin? Headed there Monday, never been. Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks Jeff! Love the videos! Especially the one of you on the niangua.

Sadly I didn’t have a ton of luck on the brule. I got into a decent sized brown but only caught about 6 fish in three days of fishing and all but the brown were very small (10 inches or less).

I caught the bigger brown on a crayfish streamer pattern and the others while swinging wet flies in the current with a type 3 sink tip line. Good luck!
