The residential streets shown were overengineered for their purpose - who would think that a 40 foot wide street would be perceived as anything else except a speedway? The more appropriate width would be half that - and with kinks and tight curves!
Well gee whiz, it turns out that when you design your one-lane one-way roads to be 40 feet wide, people tend to drive a little bit more quickly. Maybe you could have made the roads smaller to begin with, allowing you to fit in a lot more buildings, and thus reducing the need for cars in the first place.
