Couple Living The Dream on Their Wholesale Flower Farm | Meet My Flower Friends

- Come and meet Kelly and Diane of Casa Verde Flower Farm, located in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. Focused on selling direct to florists, this couple has found a way to live out their dreams of farming and being surrounded by flowers, without overwhelming themselves. Balancing their love of growing and past experience in landscaping, they have chosen to avoid the retail market, and instead like to spend their time in the fields, or creating stronger relationships with their florist clients.
I love them, not only because they are the best of people, but also because they are the perfect example of how you can take on farming to suit all ages and lifestyles - you don't need to sell all the flowers, for the highest price possible, you just have to sell enough to make it worth your time! With lots of tips about how to find florist customers (hint - networking!), how to find pricing, and how to choose what to grow, there is lots for everyone to learn. Plus, their farm is LITERALLY zinnia heaven, so we could all use a little visit, lol.
Hope you enjoy, and if you are local to Kelowna, check out their website!

When I was undergoing chemotherapy, my co-workers asked what they could do for me. Chemo treatment is such a solitary experience and since the treatment pretty much kills any interest in eating, food prep was not so appealing. I told them if they wanted to give me some flowers I would really appreciate it. They all got together and split up the weeks and I got fresh flowers for every week of my treatments. Every time I saw the flowers I would smile and believe me it was not a smiling time. That was over 10 years ago and I still feel grateful for their thoughtfulness.
This is exactly what Im discovering about myself- I love the GROWING aspect. Not so much the designing/arranging. I mean its OK, but what I love is being in the field.
Love videos like this. Great couple. Lots of inspiration and I like their dream of getting everyone to have flowers in their homes. 😊😊
Couldn't agree more!
Love you videos like this great my jobs garden jobs I'm Pakistan
I'm at the same stage in my life. I can't imagine growing flowers on such a large scale. What a happy couple.
Birds ate my Dahlias! Just little nubs left!
So nice of you to show other people in your trade, bravo!!!
I always get inspired by other farms, so I would love to show more of them here
Lots of beautiful zinnias.
Ditto about the flowers bring smiles to people. I love love love flowers! Thank you for bring us along on this field trip! Love Kelly and Diane's flower farm💜💜💜💜💜
I am lucky to have such great flower friends
Word of mouth is key to any business. Social media, newspaper ads, phone book listings take away a ton of money. Word of mouth is free and the people who really like your work, will talk about it to so many others especially if they really like you.
Very good interview for outsider to know how flower growers operates. Thank you for sharing their thoughts and info.
What a lovely couple! Thanks for sharing their story 🥰
How awesome!!!! I agree...there is something that makes you smile when you walk into a business or home and are greeted by a beautiful bouquet of flowers...God bless y'all
fresh and cheery
I love this! Amazing people, beautiful flowers.
Thanks
So very much love that you show this in the cold dead months so I can get my green and flowers fix. I’m missing the garden so much this February and needed this boost.
It definitely is easy to get excited for spring seeing all their beautiful flowers
This video makes me excited for summer
me too, lol
Great video! These two people are adorable! Their flowers are gorgeous. I love how they came about doing what they wanted to do! I wish them the best of luck and happiness. I'm glad you made friends with them. It's good that you have people to talk to who are doing something very similar to you, and they're local. I think being friendly and open and cooperative makes the world a better and safer place for you, for them, and for your farms.
Such an inspiring charismatic couple
Great video I’ve watched it 3 times already. So nice to see so many flowers that’s what your farm is going to look like can’t wait.
Thanks 👍
Always love hearing from people working hard to do their own thing!! From one free spirit to another, keep up the good work!!!
growing things is a great way to spend oyur time
What an absolutely lovely couple to have met. The farm looks gorgeous, I don’t see one weed, but then again with the few that there were, it’s a sign of them growing organic! 💐🌻♥️💕
There farm was super clean, but I think everyone always sees their own weeds. It was also September when we filmed this, so it had already been a long hot year
Great video. Diane, I agree with you to keep your flower farm private, your both lucky to have each other.
Wow, I feel you made this video for me...LOL. Thank-You for sharing. Blessings from Ontario.
So glad!
This was fun to see and hear their journey with wholesale. Thank you!
It's my dream!
Great interview, I wish it were longer! Can’t wait for your tour of the farm in BC.

Love your garden and your flowers with interesting video ❤️❤️
Great video…lovely couple x
You are so inspiring ♡ I am 50 (and single with a 9 year old) and wanting to start a small farm business, mainly interested in greens, mushrooms and cut flowers here in Saskatchewan ♡ I think I will take a few courses in horticulture, gardening, business while I continue to save and plan. Good luck this spring and summer!
Couple more comments: I loved the "flower culture" when I lived in Victoria, too. Living amongst the flowes everywhere is what made me realize that flowers are magical beings and want to spread that magic of fresh flowers in the home to the prairies ♡
Just prepare your soil, tilling, adding organic material, plant & sell at farmers markets or florists.
Hire someone to till.
Ask florists what their needs are.
Also plant peppers, tomatoes, & greens. Sell the plants, then sell the fruits.
You don't have to have certificates or degrees.
Maybe daffodils & tulip bulbs.
Listen to what Serena buys to plant.
God bless.
That is so awesome!
Wonderful commentary from a lovely couple.
Very beautiful
Oh how beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing this wealth of knowledge!

We do it for fun but would love a bigger parcel to expand! Thanks for the visual experience!

This is important for those of us who want to start their own business.
I am still ordering seed,& looking through Bluestone catalog for perennial cut flowers.
Scabiosa, stokesia, verbascum,
& sedum look interesting.
Have a blessed day.
You know I love the sedum! It is really easy to propogate too
@@YouCantEatTheGrass Oh, thanks, Serena. I just love Thunderhead for foliage & flower.
You do inspire many!
I hope your health is fully recovered.
🎉
Great video thanks for sharing
Totally offtopic my first comment, Serena : Can you grow Astrantia Major over there in BC? I found this beautiful perennial and can't fit it into my garden, so you have to grow it for me and show off every week! 😄And it is a great cut flower, you would love it. Greetings, Judit ps: will be back for a video - related comment too 😄
I'm not planing to grow flowers for sale but I picked up a few good idea. Thank you.
farm tips are also great home garden tips, lol
@@YouCantEatTheGrass I'm trying to make it to more of an urban farm. But I'm so in the beginning. I'm barely left the start line. :)
Hi, my name is Carmen and I love your video. Would you consider to sell wholesale to a young man 17years old and his mom starting on their flower business, trying to get out of poverty they live in California,
How long of a growing time you have?
Where do you buy your bulk seeds …example zinnas. I live in Georgia….looking for bulk seeds ,and affordable.
geo seeds
where do u live? ive been growing flowers for 5 yrs except 1 yr i had knee surgery. ive sold at farmers Market for 2 yrs, then just off my land. have sold bulbs and thought that might be a good option, Im in a small town and think there are only 3 florists in a 15 mile radius. so was thinking of doing a Flower Bar . i go back and forth on having a U-Pick, or U-Cut. not want kids to run thru my flowers.
Hi!! Have you guys have been considering to work with florist and wedding vendors for bulk selling. It could be a great chance to expand and secure long Term flower selling
Serena answered this question and many more during her all about flower farming Q&A!
we are open to having some more wholesale this coming year. We are going to be specializing in bright and unique flowers, so I think we will have something a little different to offer them. We just aren't interested in doing much delivery, so they will have to come by the farm
Omg... You guys really replayed my coment.. I ve been watchin your vidios since 2019.me and my husband really feel the struggle our self. Since we also run a coffee and orchid farm here in indonesia.covid really hit our coffee farm in term of produce pricing... Bu everything start to rebound since mid 2021 we hope this year will be better
Price should be based on costs n expenses ...
Not on another price...
Won’t it be nice when we all move to electric cars. The noise pollution is so intrusive there.
lol, it was driving me a little crazy while editing. I'm a sound snob. It is definitely a lesson for remembering to use my wireless mics for things like this in the future. They are in a great central location though for having a business. They are right in the middle of town, so it is really easy for florists to get to them, so that noise pollution has value
Such a lovely couple! Very cool to see what works for them
