I always used to be so proud of myself for having a single chest full of blocks for a build, now I realize how tiny that is

Builders are an entirely different breed lmaoo, despite all the pain of clearing the area, the build turned out great! The star shapes were such a good choice
tbh there's some enjoyment in the grind. It's fun to see how much stuff you collect and it feels like an accomplishment

Change lava flow source blocks to true in advanced world settings. It makes lava flow and work exactly like water. Helpful for your situation.

I started watching Joel during the more exhausting years of my life and his videos were the highlight of my day. It has been years since i have seen his videos and today i remembered the joy these videos gave me. Hearing your voice again is giving me some serious dejavu! i think there's a setting where you can make lava mechanics like the ones of water. maybe do that and fix the lava lake then revert back! anyways very cool build! gotta respect the grind

32 hours for a single video not counting editing time is just absolutely staggering amount of effort my man, but it sure as hell did pay off, that build was sick as hell!

I really love the gradient around the shroomlights in the floor on the outside of the nether build how it starts bright and slowly dims as it gets further away
i cherish your gathering montages just as much as your building segments ❤ also im vindicated bc my friends make fun of me for collecting so much netherrack when i terraform in the nether but its such a valuable block to sketch out builds! :)

What an awesome build! Really like your plan to make a farm inside it, but the shape also really lends itself to an awesome hub station 🤓 you could make more bridges like the one for the portal leading to different POI's like a wither skellie farm, froglight farm etc etc

I wouldnt be able to do half of this in a regular survival world, forget hardcore. Id probably be dying and replacing my stuff half the time trying to get it done. Great job with this build!

Just got home from a great day at work to see that Joel had uploaded this just before my shift started! Joel, you are INCREDIBLE at designing builds in this game!!
I am so far away from even attempting to go to the nether in my world. I've just started my second survival world, my first one got corrupted after a few hours of play and I lost everything. But I don't have the courage to face ghasts and piglins (not to mention hoglins!!) just yet. I've only played creative, still not a good builder by any means, so stepping out of my comfort zone is a hard thing to do. But seeing the fantastic builds creators like Joel, fWhip, Sausage, Grian, Scar, Impulse, Pearl, Gem, Mumbo and more really inspire me to keep trying. I know there's hope for me, I've seen how much Jimmy has improved from the Evo SMP to New Life. So I know that with practice we all can improve.
And this is why Doc and others use machines to clear areas. Woulda lost some netherrack and stuff, but I'd argue that would have been worth it. None the less, cool project!
I like the bridge to the portal! It takes bridges to a whole new level - from connecting the fortress to land to connecting it to the overworld!

As much as it would suck to do, the "easy" way to do the lava is to put down TWO layers of Netherrack then come back and mine away the top layer so it's really obvious where you have to put the layers to smooth it out.
Or just cheat and switch lavaSourceConversion to "true".

Omg I’m so happy todays my birthday (17 oct) and it’s been so amazing a lot of my fav CZcamsrs have posted, I’ve gotten amazing gifts and everything has gone to plan this is one of the best birthdays ever! You know what, this might be the first time I've seen a minecraft youtubwr build a Meagan nether portal build. With a tiny portal and no a massive entrance. Congrats mate.
For any future black stone gathering, I would recommend finding a bastion and placing down a beacon. Haste 2 Insta mines the stuff
You could just use orange glass and prismarine to get the Fogg like effect and still match the nether theme and replace the lava.

I actually love terraforming the nether (not the mobs, HATE the mobs) because it really is satisfying. Those were absolutely lovely timelapses of removing the netherrack. Thank you :)

On my latest survival world, I decided to make my nether hub a giant ziggurat made out of nether brick and red nether brick. I don't know how you do it all at once. I'm slowly doing it a strip at a time and it's excruciating. Clear space, put down blocks, repeat. Occasionally kill ghosts or piglins that pick fights. All my netherrack goes into furnace setups powered by lava buckets to cook down into bricks. I have netherwart farms anywhere I spend significant amounts of time. The outside is only half done. I'm astonished at your persistence.

Also, if you havent fixed the flowing lava issue, Just take from the middle of your building. You are gonna put a floor there anyway right? You can just take the top layer off, maybe build the star down one more layer if it would bug you, and boom. Quick fix. Or swipe if from the other side of the nether fia nether portals but yeah. Suggestions =)
hey man- huge recommendation for grinding and mining blocks for hours on end is to listen to a podcast. My fav is "chuckle sandwich" and "just roll with it". Makes the process much more enjoyable
