      The name is definitely part of it, as I think they want him to be the face of the franchise like Jarome Iginla was in Calgary. But Tij was also a projected top 10 pick, so they get a very good player as well.

    As a Habs fan all I have to say is that for the first time in years, the fanbase seems stoked with the pick. Add moving up from 26th to 21st to draft Hage, and it's pretty hard to not see Montreal as one of the biggest winners on the day.

      Not happy with the Levshunov pick, after trading away a 2nd round pick to move up two spots in the first round they reach for Boisvert, passing on Eiserman, Hage and Greentree and then trading away both second round picks to reach again for Vanacker.

  • @AnaheimRob
    @AnaheimRob Před 2 dny +6

    If Sennecke's upside is more like the last twenty games he played, no one will complain... If that isn't the case, Verbeek better start making deep playoff runs soon. Honestly, Sennecke looked incredible at times. If he can keep growing his game there is a legit chance he is something special. The thing is, there are no guarantees and lots of question marks until we see what he does in San Diego next year and if he is able to do great things at the next level. Big risk at third overall but Verbeek has made solid picks so far. We'll see.

    For flyers at least it's a clear long term plan: Jett is still 17 (Need a Center) and picking up more picks next year (Columbus 2nd deferred and Oilers 1st) but man, Buium is nasty. Flyers have smaller DMan and that's why they didnt draft Buium, but Drysdale and York will FAs when Buium is in his prime.
    Will say as far as trading back, Buffalo couldn't move back from 14 so don't think flyers had much an offer. Clearly we value Buium much more than NHL teams since so many passed on him and no one 15-19 wanted to trade up for him.

    Im super nervous with this Yakemchuk pick especially at 7 I feel like we couldve traded back to pick him. Putting that aside I think Yakemchuk has a lot of raw talent but his defending off the rush is very concerning which goes hand in hand with his skating being quite weak. Hes a very raw prospect so I hope the Sens can develop his skating (which they have a good history of) and that Yakemchuk can develop and hit his top 4 potential more risk than I think the Sens shouldve gone with and hes likely 3-4 ywars away from being an NHL regular id expect he needs at least 1 year in the AHL after 2 seasons in the WHL

  • @wainber1

    Bennett Sennecke appeared to be a bit of a reach although I hadn't been very familiar with his name before he had been picked by the Ducks at third overall. Yet before the Leafs picked Ben Danford at 31st overall, I hadn't been familiar with his name either.
    There may very well be some busts and steals from this Draft particularly with multiple rounds still to go. Yet among past NBA and NHL drafts, there's no doubt Connor Hellebuyck, Felix Potvin, Jamie Benn and Pascal Siakam were steals despite having been picked outside the top-10 in their respective draft years. Raph Araujo (Raptors), Nail Yakupov (Oilers) and Griffin Reinhart (Isles) were picked in the top-10 of their respective NBA or NHL Draft years but turned out to be complete busts.

      @@maxpatenaude2115people are sleeping on him. He's gonna be a good player in the NHL, a good contrast to Hutson and with their draft picks this year, it's looking bright in the future

      Hard to say they had a bad 2023 draft, reinbacher is a big mobile dman, he’s already shown offensive potential too

    I don't know if you can really say the winners and loser of the draft. These are pro scouts and they're choosing who the think is best.

      I have very mixed feelings on the Luchanko pick but ngl trading our other pick to Edmonton was a great move

      Idiot all the picks made sense considering who they already have in their prospect pool and with a top pick next year they can add a top forward to pair with Bedard
