- Banggood offers an Action Cam that boasts 4K quality at a bargain price, but does it live up to the hype? I unbox the SJ9000 (not affiliated with SJCAM), try it out both indoors on a tripod and outdoors handheld, and compare it to my Campark V30 in a side-by-side test of the footage.

Great review. Really asked the right questions and gave it a fair shake. I bought the same camera. I don’t have the option of spending more so I have to live with what it can do. I was also amazed at the fact that it shipped from China in only an envelope, I was really concerned things would be damaged, but they surprisingly weren’t.

The plastic housing kept the cam safe despite the rough handling during shipment. I totally understand the concept of working with what you can afford. And the video on this camera is not horrible, it's just not 4K as advertised.

For 12 bucks that's a win. Is it a fantastic picture? No.. is it a good picture? Heck yeah. This is perfect for people who want to start out recording and editing without spending a fortune. This is a 10/10 imo. I do not own this at all and have no skin in the game but for the price? Dude that's a steal. Not everyone wants to go spend a few hundred bucks on a action camera. That's like saying my phone is horrendous compared a 2000 dollar DSLR camera. You are comparing 2 different spectrums.
Records in AVI format. That's enough to ignore this product. It should be at least in MP4 format (264 if not 265).

AVI format? That was the stuff of nightmares when editing videos years ago, especially when converting to other formats. AVI needs to be buried in a deep ditch.
AVI requires less processing than more advanced codecs, so you find this file format on cheap cameras that lack processing power like this one. I totally agree that many formats offer better quality with smaller file size than AVI.

Yours is the only review that tells the truth off these cameras I believe the cameras are being sent with battered cases because they are a Chinese knock off from the original cameras I'm in uk 🇬🇧 and got the same as you beat up box and specifications not as good as claimed 😢😢

It performed better than the $7 webcam I posted about a couple of weeks ago!... But yeah, I don't imagine using this cam as for anything important.

I checked the prices on the Campark V30 at nearly $100, seems like a used gopro would still be a better option.
I've seen used Hero 5 Black in this price range, but with the Hero 5 you can either have stabilization or 4K, but not both. If I found a good, used Hero 6, 7, & 8 Black for $100, I would swipe it up!

Dead on Arrival, so never made a vid about. I made a claim on Ebay and got my money back.
Can I decase this camera like a go pro and make a naked sports camera?
Without the case, you lose the mount. All my action cam accessories are now mixed up in one box, but I believe this cam came with a mounting accessory that clips around it. It doesn't protect the camera, but does provide a 1/4" 20 thread for mounting.

The SJCAM SJ8 Pro has many good reviews and impressive specs, and does true 4K at 60fps. I do not have firsthand experience with it, however.

It all depends on the interface that you camera uses, the resolution, and how many CZcams reviews are already published for your camera. bought the same cheap camera from banggood. For its price and the work I need to do with sj9000 is good enough. I only have one problem(except the scratches on the screen that came with).. How the heck I can make this junk shoot more than 5 minutes videos? I check all the settings 100 times and are fine but still stop record on 5 minutes.....
Check your card. Is is big enough? Is it fast enough?
One very important thing that might be it: What is the format the card has? FAT32 (the general format for cards)? This file system only supports files up to 4GB. This means that even if you have free space, the camera will not be able to record more. The problem is a file size limit, not a time limit (although in practical terms you will be limited in time).
But since this camera is not 4K, you can step the resolution down and the files should be "smaller per minute", meaning you will still be locked down under 4GB files but they will be longer than 5 minutes.

hey do you why my cam (same as yours) stop recording after few seconds?
everytime i try to record something, it records for only like 5seconds.
I have not experienced this problem. Do you have a different SD card you could try?

@@Racule When a camera has an issue with recordings, the SD card it the first thing to troubleshoot. If you have another MicroSD card, or can borrow one, I would test it out.

The video on this looks about like a decade old cell phone. Still, at $12.49, my only major complaint is the marketing of this item as 4K when it does not support this resolution.

And have you try to use a sd "extreme" card instead of ultra sd?
If it's motion JPEG, then 25fps will be a rough, choppy ride.
