Ridley is a character with quite the history in Smash, and throughout the franchise he'd always been a character of high demand. By the Smash 4 days Ridley led himself into infamy through basically the sheer absurdity of him even making it into the playable roster due to his size.
The Classic Ridley mod by KingJigglypuff is publicly available and still in progress.

Its surprisingly how both the PM Devs/Modders and Sakurai had a similar mindset when making Ridley into a Character, cause he shares so much of the similar moves. Though a bit different in many places
As a Ridley Main in ultimate I'm now disappointed by what we got since this Ridley looks so much more fun to play as.
I really wanted that d-air instead of the shitty one we got, you're better off using the downward Up-B if you wanna spike with Ridley

I remember when the mod first dropped. There hadn't been a PSA with such level of polish before it and everyone was going nuts back in Smashboards. KingJigglypuff is a legend
I think that it inspired Ultimate to a large degree. For a long time Sakurai and his followers religiously believed Ridley was too big for Smash, and here he was, extremely well done in a mod specifically proving them all wrong at a size that still made him playable but feel true as he was in the franchise (he wasn't giant until Fusion/Prime)

Notice how most Ult Ridley players almost never use his down b stab because you have to be very precise with it and it leaves you wide open too. It would’ve been cool if his aerial down b was the pogo tail but I digress. PM Ridley exists for a reason.
Honestly, I'd rather his down special remain the same, and instead tie his tail pogo to his down air (like what is seen in a Ridley mod for Ultimate). Down air is outright disappointing in every regard, it wouldn't be missed in any way.
@@trainershade1937 actual Ridley main here, while down air is bad, it’s still more useful than down b. Down air can be used to edge guard and a way to get out of combos, while down b is much like falcon punch, where it’s hype but not good, but worse
I think pm Ridley is really cool, and I like a lot of his moves. But, I also felt like he was more difficult to visually read in the game play demo if that makes sense. Not "read" as in fighting game terminology, just reading like what his model is doing, and how it's doing it.
still remember the original ridley mod with the other M model. kinda miss that model actually. i like a bit more buff ridley even tho his beak looked terrible. that shit blew my mind back in the day

Ultimate Ridley feels like they didn't do much research on the character's history when making his moveset.
Meanwhile, PM Ridley has moves pulled straight out of NES Metroid, Zero Mission, Super Metroid, Fusion, Metroid Prime 1 & 3.
EDIT: Wasn't there a version of Kingjigglypuff's PM Ridley that had a grab that drags enemies across the floor like Ultimate? I wonder if it was removed in later updates.

This Ridley is my personal favorite, my superior.
I love PM ridley so much more, he feels more menacing and true to the character, not to mention not looking like paper maché. also really cool for the FULL character to be fleshed out and competent as opposed yo a one-move gimmick
Project M ridley fits his character so much more
the "S" sound are way too sharp in your audio, especially in the beginning. don't wanna be that guy, but might wanna check that out.

Pm ridley has some of that goofy melee-like animation and moves that probably would have been more or less scrubbed out of the character into something more vanilla like ult ridley if it had been in the official series since melee or brawl tbh. The cargo throw and tail spike will never not be satisfying though
I think I definitely see what you're getting at. Visually Ultimate is at a different level, and honestly has a different style to a lot of the nuance and variety in animation. Neither are bad, but there are some differences. I find it interesting they basically did reanimated every single fighter with the exception of like Roy lmao
Imma keep it real, PM Ridley feels more like Ridley in character and moveset, that is all.
ngl i miss bravedragonwolfs ridley. he was in legacy xp as a hidden hold l character in the same way giga bowser and warioman was but he was not in pmex remix for one reason or another. would there ever be a possibility of him coming back? or is he just to busted
He's just too redundant. All too similar, basically Classic Ridley kind of encompasses his purpose and refines it.
I'm surprised there are actually a handful of moves from Ultimate I prefer, his up air and n-air in Project M are both kinda bland compared to Ultimate, and in general I like how Ultimate emphasizes spacing with him via his tail barb sweet spots.

Ultimate Ridley's still my preferred favourite, but PM Ridley does have a lot of cool things and even a few that I prefer, mainly the down air. Why Ultimate Ridley doesn't have the tail pogo is beyond me. Yet again it seems weird that using side b makes you helpless in PM but not in Ultimate. Personally prefer having the extra recovery boost.
Sometimes I feel like the only reason Ridley doesn't have pogo down air is because they were aware he had it here.
I personally prefer PM Ridley mostly for the fact he actually has quite a few moves pulled straight out of Metroid games. Meanwhile, Ultimate Ridley feels lacking in that aspect and thus less "true" to the character.
In a nutshell, PM Ridley feels like he got the same level of passion like K.Rool got in Smash Ultimate.

@@saltyralts It does have a high amount of endlag, yes. But it doesn't make you helpless. Youcan still recover from it.
PM Ridley has much better aireals and smash attacks

Overall I think Sakurai did the better Ridley BUT PM made a more ferocious looking/sounding Ridley
