  • Dollywood Express: #70 Christmas 11-27-2021. On the Saturday after Thanksgiving, we made our way over to the "Myrtle Beach of the Hills" to Dollywood. The locomotive in charge of the train that day was ex. White Pass and Yukon #70.
70 was built in 1938 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as a 3 foot narrow gauge E class 2-8-2 Mikado for the White Pass and Yukon Railroad. 70 would haul mostly freight trains until it was retired in 1963. It sat until 1977 when Silver Dollar City (Dollywood before two management changes) bought it and her two sisters 71 and 72, and moved them to Pigeon Forge TN. 70 was restored and returned to service ten years later, and has been in operation hauling tourists ever since. 71 would remain sitting with no real plan of operations at the time of this video, and 72 was stripped down as a parts source.
*Just in case anyone was curious whistle wise, 70 had a "Central of Georgia" Crosby 3 chime.
*Whenever the engine arrived at Dollywood, the crew gave her the name “Cinderella.”
Because this was a Christmas event, 70 was decked out with lights and a wreath on the front, making her look really festive for the Holidays. So, sit back relax and enjoy "Cinderella" in full force at the friendliest place in the Smokies!
