So insightful! Christianity in Jamaica is bitter and condemning, often lacking in love and God's grace. It still condemns African identity in all its natural forms--- It's why most Yute turn to Rasta to find kindnesses and respect for Black humanity.

Many want to fight down culture and roots, and personal elevation. Still there's many not so accepting of Rastafari, of African spirituality. It's a journey. May the masses of our Black people become awakened.

So ironic. The Seventh Day Adventists pursue a lifestyle of healthy eating which, of all the denominations - is closest aligned to the Ras Tafari way. As a youth, I went to all the services at all the denominations I could access. Certain aspects of the SDA community appealed to I more than all the others. Hope his parents have matured in their way of thinking now that Mortimer has become a man. Rasta live.

@@LADYG-gl1jx because it comes from the power of the people that want to live their lives eminent in the world and not subside because of government or others with abundance around them monopolizing our emotions our environment and our way of life.
It is pure from the heart and driven through free will following the Inner Light of our divine presence to exist.
Rock and rollers have been subject to the same kind of stereotype and challenges based on fears of the world around them by people who are not strong and don't speak up for themselves and follow like sheep.
Much music of today focuses on cutting each other down instead of looking at where the problems start and exist, by people claiming 'Authority' to dictate Our Lives.
America Pride even in this modern day owes it's free will to the existence of Rock-n-Roll and the influence and movement it has caused for people to stand up for themselves.
It's a pure natural force.
It's in the tones, the way they speak.
... and just as food for thought... many of the bike clubs from yesteryear We're treated ignorantly like many of the Diversified groups that we have today. They had to stick together and fight for their independence in the same way through this shared experience of dealing with ignorance on this planet. But the same evil governments like to fuel the fire and feed the contrast between us to keep us not Unified and thinking we are more different than we are.
Other music is sure nice and fun at times, but other musics are not a universal motivating power in the same* way as Rock and Roll or Reggae. A lot of other popular music fills people with emotional dopamine leaving them numb and mentally incapacitated so they could be manipulated and use synthetic drugs and turn into Pawns.
I personally do not look at reggae music as racist because they are fighting oppression of the past in older musics, with tact and facts. Unlike many other forms of music that touch the subjects of racism with a little more close minded ignorance in relation to the world as it is right now today. Many people are rolling on hype and their Unity* is not based on natural elements and circumstances.
Like Rock-n-Roll, I feel that much traditional Reggae music is based on a principle to exist freely as a life-form and not to take over the world.
One of my absolute favorites is Bunny Wailer's Dreamland... timeless, pure and top-notch.
... it's also easy for a reggae drummers to sit in with rock bands. It's all about the fire!
@@LADYG-gl1jx here is a song that I sang and made up improv on the spot with a rock and roll band that I jam with. After the police and the state tried to have its way with me I employed my emotions and feelings and this is the result from my Rock and Roll / Reggae Heart as I use the force to heal my life and Circumstance. I have written many reggae songs using my feelings.

As soon as he came into the studio he was in-sink and was able to learn 8 songs easily within a couple weeks to do this gig with us. He made up the drum track and it fits right in.

Heard his more recent interview on Deadly and suspected that he grew up in the SDA church. Mine had the same sort of skepticism towards reggae (ie. "Jah provide all your wants and needs? Ano Jesus?" lol) but not to the extent that I imagine it was for him as an artist himself. I wouldn't use "fanatical" to describe the stance - I think a lot of parents that were raising us in the dancehall era caught 'fraid and took the "only gospel" route. Even reggae, which has that undeniably powerful spiritual quality and general upfulness, still left them uncomfortable - with the centrality around Selassie. It's not an easy needle to thread.
