Wow... A soldier in the Union Army, wounded and imprisoned, and he escaped. Then he became a sheriff and a Republican Senator... For Lincoln... And I thought I had honourable ancestry.
How cool is that?!
Anyone who fought against the evils of slavery was honorable.
I agree. Truly Remarkable indeed.
We wouldn’t have Kelly Clarkson today without Isaiah R. Rose.
i bet he would've been proud of her too. her family line is amazing.
She has also risen to the top by her own sense of values, and even though she didn’t always have it easy, she is a wonderful woman who doesn’t feel the need to have a man to be a success.
True. But she hasn't have it as bad either. She was blessed with a talent not everyone ever will have. And a good, supportive mom.
I love how excited she is at learning about her great great great grandfather’s life.
Kelly is so genuine and charismatic ,humble woman I’m happy for her success
Wonderful example of living a life that generations to come will shout WOW.
Isaiah Rose's unwavering beliefs - even in the face of strong opposition - is a character trait to be exemplified today. Thanks for this fascinating journey!
Those people back then had some balls and some resilience.
so unlike the government dependent people of today.
Because they all didn’t get trophies for participation
@@Yepthatsme0038 lol
She's got to be so proud. I would be too.
Nah, it could be a career-ender once it gets out that she's a Yankee, not a Dixie belle.
@@lucygray6162 hasn't happened, probably never will... She's doing just as good been the new Ellen haha
Anything with her in it I watch because I absolutely love this woman, I can't find one thing I don't like about her
I love that his bill pushed it down to local control. That's the kind of decisions that should be made locally, not passed down from on high in Washington.
That was the original idea when our nation was formed. What is good for one county or state is not necessarily good for another.
I wonder if Senator Isaiah Rose ever imagined one of his descendants would be a world-renowned, award-winning professional singer, talk show host, and The Voice coach? Wow, this is one hell of a lineage to come from! Imagine how Kelly’s children will feel to descend from a Senator and a professional recording artist? Wow
I think it's amazing to see just why he was fighting against saloons. We see it in all the cowboy movies violence n liquor don't mix.
He's a Sheriff like Tombstone??? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😂
I wish they would do these stories on regular people. Professional genealogists are very expensive. Prohibitively expensive. Celebrities can afford to pay for that sort of research while the average person cannot. I guess regular people don't make good TV
It’s not hard to do the research yourself. The census is a free public record and a good place to start
@@kathypatterson6813 I'm very competent in genealogy research. Most people are not.
It takes times. I have been working on my genealogy for nearly 22 years. I found that I'm descended from the Plantagenets, but I'm more interested in the lives of the ordinary folk. I have also a few mysteries to solve😃
Wow! Beautiful story.
Kelly should write and dedicate a song about her great, great, great grandfather, Isaiah Rose.
Yah, Isiah Rose has a nice ring to it . Kelly should .
@@tamaliaalisjahbana9354 Kelly has the talent to not only write a song about him, but to also put the emotions into that it needs. Maybe one day!
Why am I crying?
She’s seems so nice.
Kelly is just so lucky to be able to learn everything about her great-great-great grandfather. Since childhood I have always imagining and wondering about who and how my are my great3 grandfathers are, and where they are originally from.
I love her reaction.
WOW.... In just the few minutes in, I got serious chills! I would be so incredibly proud to call him my 3 time great grandfather! And there you see true history! The Republican Party fought to end the confederacy and slavery of blacks!
At the time the Republican Party was the more LIBERAL party and the Democrats were the more conservative party... over the next 75 or so years, the 2 party's platforms did a complete flip flop, to what we see today with Republicans being the conservative party and Democrats the liberal party... So while it was the Republican Party that fought to end Confederacy and slavery, it's always been the liberals who have fought for human rights....
@@brucerhodes8197 😆🤣😂
one of the great American heros and Patriots you should be very proud
It makes me so curious about my ancestors. I wonder if I’d be this proud.
I'm surprised Kelly isn't more interested in who wrote that article in the book. They are her relatives, too...maybe they'd still be alive. I'd give anything to connect w/ relatives from my grandfathers. I know very little about either one...
Pvt. Isaiah R. Rose, USA is my third great uncle's sister's husband's fourth cousin. ;-)
Lol so no relation to you then , is what your sayin.
Let that sink in.
Lol!
Lol 😆
I love Space Balls 🤩
Being a sheriff I would imagine he saw lot damage alcohol caused
My mother will be ninety-two in October. I know well her father was an alcoholic as a young father. I tried to get Mom to tell me more. She said once the mail came with a check to refund the cost of a non-working refrigerator. He took it to town and first thing bought booze. So how could my grandmother replace the refrigerator then, which she had convinced the company to take responsibility. Years passed and I decided to try one more time this year. So I asked for any other childhood memories. As usual, she said, “Daddy was an alcoholic “. I know, but tell me a story. She told me that after the family would work so hard picking cotton, Daddy would take the check straight from the cotton gin to the bar (celebrate with whomever). This went on until his oldest boy would go with him and take the check.
Kelly Clarkson's search for info on the life of her great great grandfather should be instructive for us all. We will also have descendents who will come after us, long after we are dead. They will never have known us, but may want to know how we have lived our lives, and what contribution we made. Will our descendents be proud of us or ashamed?
Kelly looks like her grandfather Isaiah Rose
This was really great.
William Tecumseh Sherman is literally from my hometown Lancaster Ohio like I live five minutes from his childhood house and I live 45 minutes from Columbus from her grandfather’s place pretty much so weird
How awesome for her
wow, he also fought for women's issues when they start to rise.
Go Kelly!
Wow this is so cool. Incredible story.
Makes you think of all the futures and potential accomplishments that disappeared in the Civil War. Or any war, really.
Did anyone else pause it to read what Kelly was reading. Look at the top line that is partially cut off right before the line that reads, "In 1906 he was elected to the 77th General Assembly of Ohio as State Senator." What that line reads is surprising. It was never mentioned on the show. Just surprised me to read that. Anyone else see it? He was a Sheriff before but it doesn't say what he did after being a Sheriff before being a senator. So could he have worked in the Ohio Penitentiary for 8 years or did he serve time there? All we can see is "managers of the Ohio Penitentiary where he served right years." (If you pause it fast enough right after she says man they had some kids)
This is at timestamp 9:15
It means he worked for the system not an inmate.
When I lived in New Orleans back in 1982 there were allot of bars on Dauphine St and One Never allowed Woman, well because of my BF,future husband I was allowed and the first female to play pool..
Back then it was a Man's world around there so I felt proud to be the first and I was only 18 at the time..
The same bars are still there today..
P
People forget how much reform and public change for the better that Republicans were responsible for directly.. Emancipation, Voting Rights for Women and minorities, and this effort against domestic violence.. My GG Grandmother was part of the movement to not allow any business besides a bank or Co. store , to “cash” a paycheck/ chit. Families were starving while men drank and prostituted their pay away.. it wasn’t about teetotalers vs. freedom.
“Everything they accuse you of doing, is what they ARE doing…”
Thanks
That’s my State House!!
Wow amazing stories....I would like to know about my ancestors but Latin America its so limited information I did y DNA but I can't trace my ancestors from Spain Portugal and other places...
Europe has more and more off this information going online all the time.
so nice having her talk normally instead 100mph and words running into each other
Now we know where kellys character came from a man a former POW became sheriff then a senator who love to serve his people and who cares about humans.
I've sat in that specific room in the Ohio State House and stood under the Rotunda where Lincoln lied in State. The history runs through that building.
Someday, we will all be ancestors to other people like this. Other people will look back at our lives to see how we changed their future. So let’s live our lives to the fullest today.
From a walking skeleton prisoner escaped soldier from the most nightmarish prisoner camp surviving lethal Civil War who is almost killed by friendly lines upon reaching freedom
He is one day
*Senator* Rose.
It is a much more honorable background than the entitled one so many of our politicians one have.
Did she recognise her great grandmother or grandfather in rge family photo? She only pointed out her 3rd great grandfather?
My guess is that she had to have at least tried to figure out who else was who...but this video was about her 3rd great grandfather and that specific connection, anything beyond that was more than likely edited out... I mean it was just under an 11 minute video, 2 locations, 2 conversations, articles to read, photos to view... obviously a lot of stuff had to be edited out for it to only be 11 min long... I'm with ya though, I'd have liked to see if she recognized anyone else from her own family's photos over the years...
Kelly's children have a strong resemblance to her POW ancestry
Which I could it’s hard to trace slaves since some went to the Caribbean others to USA. Since my family came from the Caribbean I don’t think it can be traced
I see resemblances I Kelly and her Great grand dad.
in this show, celebrities are well educated and have time to do research with the help of the ancestry
I’d be so proud if a family member of mine had gone to bat for temperance. It’s insane that such a deadly drug is so sanitised you need reasons if you DON’T indulge. Imagine asking someone why they don’t do crack? Crazy. Alcohol destroyed families, children went without food, families lost the roof over their heads and women suffered terrible violence because of it. Isiah Rose was an ally to women, children and the sanctity of the family unit! Ya man there is a bad azz!
That's a story
He died on my birthday!
My great great great grandfather and his Company G were attacked by Quantrill’s Confederate Raiders on Nov 3 1862. They shot him through the eye and neck and left him for dead. He was the only one that survived that fight. His name was Freeman Friend. His daughter Lucy that I descended from was already born so had he died I would still be here 😃
note to the voiceover (sorry) - the word is geneAlogist not geneOlogist
Seems like there was a lot of alcoholism in the good old days. Downfall of many American families. I have seen many people true personality come out when they drink. It's not a good site.
I do agree that it's a downfall for many however the true character coming out? I'm thinking it's more like it changes their personality and not always for the best
Ken Burns’ Prohibition shows that people drank very weak alcohol daily (going back to England & the War of the Roses) called small ale but with industrialization & the new ability to make stronger beer wine & hard liquor people drank the same amount but it was much stronger stuff which resulted in an epidemic of public drunkenness, families abandoned, women & children homeless & starving when the male wage earner drank his wages away. This resulted in protests, Carrie Nation chopping up saloons with an ax & the start of the Temperance movement then Prohibition
I know nothing of my history 💔
Sorry Kelly, you don't really have to worry. Saloons and the industry was the target. There are a lot of wineries that lived through that time along with breweries. They concentrated on mushrooms and baker's yeast.
From her mother side of course….
I would love to find out the truth in my family. I've heard stories about my family being royalty on both sides. I would just love to find out the truth by doing something like this. Just don't know how about doing it.
Who was he to Kelly???
AS !
Funny
He did not know the Mob would get rich off of Prohibition
Who doesn't like Kelly.
this is why I love this show sadly in American this is cancelled for good the other find my past is still going I don't like to because it shows celebrities are lazy
The Republican Party back then was not liberal.
It was pro law and order as like it is today.
It was conservative as most were prohibitionists.
Not necessarily against individual liquor users but against saloons as most men spend their pay checks buying liquor instead of taking care of their families that is why the Republicans were against the saloons and pro prohibitionists. Promoting Family values.
Senator Rose was a Republican
I want to know which one of those kids she was descended from
5:14 Disappointed he's anti-liquor
5:55 Proud he stood for women
Seriously Kelly?! Your judgement is all over the place! 😂
Right 🤦🏻♀️😂
Back when the REPUBLICANS were the liberal party.
Correction : The sane party; still are.
@@manofiske3318 you need to study the history of the GOP. It is a absolutely correct to say that 'Lincolns' Republican party of the 1860s values actually are in line with what is now the modern Democratic party. Lincoln would not begin to recognize what has become of his party today. It's a universally accepted concept, if you are a Republican it could be of use for you to do some research. You might be surprised. It doesn't make one party better or worse, it is after all just a name...the values and core beliefs just did an about face.....its actually fascinating to study how and why it happened.....Civil War aftermath, freeing of slaves and Reconstruction major influences.
@@poorthing I always have a little laugh when I hear a Republican saying they are the party of Lincoln... In today's world, Lincoln would be a Democrat...One thing that will never change is, it was Liberals who fought against confederacy and slavery... the same group that today fights for all human rights, Veterans, the homeless, the elderly, immigrants, single moms and children living in poverty... as you stated Republican/Democrat are just names, it's the ideology that matters.
@@brucerhodes8197 ty for such a well thought out comment
Republicans were never liberal. Democrats spun that narrative to explain away losing the southern vote.
Back when republicans were the good guys...................
Still are.
I think they are still are.
They are trying to promote the American ideals which made the USA the country it was and is but the democrats are trying to create a socialist failed states like Venezuela,Cuba Soviet Russia
Some still are. Just had their party hijacked by maniacs.
Always remember to repent of your sins (sin is transgression of YAHUAH The Father In Heaven’s LAW: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, & Deuteronomy) And Have Belief On Yahusha The Messiah. HE Died and Rose three days later so that you can be forgiven of your sins!
HE Loves you! Come to HIM🙂
republican party must be so different back then
@ユジン indeed💯
like she wouldn't have known any of this prior to the show....RIIGGHHTTT
She can sing but not the sharpest knife in the drawer...
Yanks copying a British show again..😑
Franny Darko it’s narrated by a British person, does that not give you the hint it’s actually made by the same production team as the uk version
It's still the UK WDYTYA but they included US Celebrities.
and that's a problem because?
like the brits havent copied us when it comes to music....
Not copying, because all humans have a history.
Kelly sounds like a bubble head here.
She always sounds like a dipstick. At least she quit wearing all the ghetto garb like she did on the Voice, but she's still loud and shrill I think she's been hanging out with the wrong people in the industry. She's talented, she doesn't have to act like she was born in The Hood, like she pretends.
@@lucygray6162 Kelly has always been talkative and bubbly, but her constant use of the word "like" is grating. That isn't "hood", but something I find very American and associate with California. The Kardashians say it a lot and quite a few of the Hollywood/LA/Cali actors/singers seem to say it. She's picked up from being in LA more.
I think your 3x grandfather would not approve of your socialist ideals! P.S. he was NOT JUST FOR WOMEN, RATHER HE WAS FOR THE PRESERVATION OF THE FAMILY!! Not FEMINISM!
this was painful to watch. she acts immature and childish the entire time.
Its called showing emotion. Getting excited if you will...
Pretty phony
Thank God Isaiah Rose was a REPUBLICAN !!!!!
That’s dope AF 🤍 says a lot about politics in that day - not so different than now where people buy politicians out, but we definitely had good people like Isaiah pushing for good despite the odds 🤍
