  • Andrew was raised in a stable home; his external circumstances weren’t the cause of his drug addiction disease. Andrew was naturally curious about drugs and was hooked on pain killers in high school. After several attempts in treatment, Andrew went on to sober living and found his purpose in helping other addicts get into treatment.

I told my story in another comment I made and I too would like to share my experience as a addict that kept up the appearance and job while doing deadly doses of any hard opi I could fine, combined with every pill that I could get. Meth was never a problem to me since I was introvert and just loved the cozy warm feeling you all users know of.

@@blacksilverchair3315 There were some amazing people put in my life that pushed me. I wasn't afraid to reach out and move to the other side of the country, completely away from everything and everyone I knew. When I got there, I learned everything I could and worked hard. I do everything I can to show the people I work for that they made the right decision in hiring me, I wont take an opportunity for granted. Race had nothing to do with it. I've never waited for the world to do anything for me in recovery, I stopped living in fear and became willing to try just about anything. The universe will put the opportunity in our path, it's up to us to catch the ball and run with it... Growing up my family was far from wealthy, but it is true that we weren't hungry. • @AN-999
      @AN-999 Před 3 lety +2

      People look at it superficially.
To me weed is no different from Heroin and no different from cocaine.
Before you jump into conclusions, i'm not referring to the psychoactive chemicals, the "high", the mental or physiological side-effects.
I'm strictly referring to the mindset of the consumer. An escapist mindset; A coping mechanism.
It all starts off at a social setting; to look cool, or to experience....but before you know it, it's become a habit, and then a necessity. Entropy!
So, when i claim weed is a gateway drug. I'm referring to a person, who smokes joints to relax,....etc. then that person needs that joint, but keeps lying to himself "i'm not an addict" "It's not like i'm smoking crack"
The fact stoners say this to reassure themselves, shows you, deep within - subconsciously - they know, psychologically...they are no different to a "crack head".
Then tolerance builds up, and it gets harder and harder to satisfy that urge to escape, to cope, ....etc
      Then it's ecstasy, cocaine, ........etc
I smoked weed for 5 years....heavily. i was conscious of its hold. But only towards the end did i really become conscious of the fact, i was trying to escape.
Then cocaine. For 2 years. Very conscious throughout the 2 years of this "self-sabbotage"
      And escapism.
But... you only truly realise it. Once you give up. Quit. You were in a coma. Your thoughts, ideas,....etc it was a coma of a delusional individual, trying to escape.

Smokable form of coke is worse than heroin. Had friends who where using just for for 2-3 months, they sold a car, house and eveything else. Spent about £50-80k in just few months. So really - is it worth it? Not to mention most crack addict mix it with H, to take the edge of. And speedball is worst of the worst... You will sell your own mother to get another fix. Trust me. Don't event think about it, not even about this "one time". Because this "one time" is what make the difference between human being and a monster.

I also had a good childhood and never was abused. For me it was a choice to start doing drugs, I wanted to see how it felt. Once I did opiates though I got addicted hardcore. It doesn't matter where you come from, how rich or poor you are, drugs don't discriminate.

I have a VERY close story to yours and now im on methadone and just wish I could smoke pot once in a week or so to get rid of the HUGE urge to consume something that alters my mind state. Being sober is just so FKING BORING and I'am now doing everything "right" but I just wonder if the abyss that pulls me in at all times goes ever away. I also kept up appearance and was doing guard work for 8 years, never sober, not a single day. Then I had a injury and the docs found out while operating my shoulder that I had some kind of bacteria that usually goes straight in the heart and kills you. The docs told me how close to death I had become and I told them everything about my addiction and got help right at the same moment. If I didn't get to the methadone program so easily I would now be living in the very rock bottom or dead. Now taking it one day at a time and just trying to find ANYTHING that makes me wheel even sorrow.
Feels good to type up summary of my use so thanks for giving the platform and telling people not all addicts are jobless skeletons without a brain.
