Debbie Booker the cheerleaders aren’t freaking dancing like crazy on the sidelines they literally only dance when they have halftime performances if they are the act but besides that they are smiling and shaking their Pom poms like every other cheer squad on the sidelines ... they may do a few kicks here and there but that’s it this guy has to literally be the center of attention keeping people entertained all game. he doesn’t have 35 other people to help him keep up. He has to do more photos because it’s only 1 mascot and I’m sure things are harder being a solo act. He does everything the cheerleaders do plus more and he’s 1 person. This is also his full time job. The cheerleaders are part time.

      Nail Therapy Studio
These women are professional athletes. Cheerleading isn’t just some part time gig like being a cashier at a gas station (who probably gets paid more than the DCC).
These ladies put in a lot of time and energy plus make tremendous personal sacrifices to do their jobs with DCC. They are expected to hold themselves up to a very high standard. Their jobs aren’t simply to cheer at games. They make special appearances throughout the year for a whole variety of events.
Any full time job they hold outside of DCC must be meaningful enough to be their primary income. And certainly they make more than minimum wage at those outside jobs just to survive.
It’s a tremendous strain to hold down two jobs. These young women deserve better pay for what they do for the Cowboys Organization.
They’re athletes. Not barmaids working for tips. Even that job would pay more and it requires far less skill than being a DCC.

    • @deniselovesglitter
      @deniselovesglitter Před 6 lety +16

This is an elite group of ladies. In history, only around 700 women have had the privilege and distinction of wearing the uniform and bring part of the DCC family and legacy. The Show Group goes all over the world on USO tours, all expenses paid, and also there’s the calendar photo shoot (usually at an exotic beach location), too.
These ladies go into this with their eyes wide open, and they do it for the prestige of being able to say that they were part of this elite group. No one is forcing them to try out, and they are told from day one what it takes to be 1 out of 36 (should they be successful.)
Lastly, the tv show “DCC Making The Team” has been around for 12 seasons. This squad has existed for decades, so by now e v e r y o n e who wants to cheer should know what they’re signing up for.
It is what it is, and NO ONE should be shocked by this process. If you’re becoming a DCC for the money, then you’re A) not doing it for the right reasons AT ALL; and B) a bit of an idiot, seeing as how theres been a show on tv for over 10 years, and also there’s full disclosure before you sign on the dotted line. Once you’ve signed, that’s it. It’s d o n e.
THIS IS WHY snowflakes don’t make the cut - they can’t handle it. They’re too soft.

The calendar fees go to the team, endorsements are paid to the team, the girls can't accept money for appearing in the team uniforms given.
Alot of the cheerleaders these days are owned by the team - they are required to 1) Have a day job in the area, 2) Be available for all team related appearances (despite the day job). And here's a big one - many don't have medical insurance to cover the injuries sustained while a cheerleader.

I'm rather surprised by the condescension apparent in the comments so far. The cheerleaders are just as much a part of the NFL and the NFL experience as the football players. Many have spent years in dance training and they are right there on the field performing throughout the entire football game.
The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, at least, are held to a high standard of conduct and act much better in public than many of the players. The players get multimillion dollar contracts and endorsements, and the cheerleaders can't even get paid a decent wage? They aren't asking for million dollar contracts - just enough money to cover practicing several hours a week, appearances all over the world, and game duties. Seems very reasonable to me and, for a billion dollar organization, should be an expectation. For the organization to offer to pay her for her unpaid time shows they know there's an issue.
It's time to stop "enjoying" the cheerleaders' performances while looking down your noses at them. It takes a courageous individual to stand up against the tide of apathy and tradition to fight for something better for future generations. Erica, good for you.

The cheerleaders are exploited! They need to stop continuing to take it! The teams talk about the girls being 'professionals', well they should be paid as professionals!! They have to 'act' a certain way & be role models, etc, yet they have them striving to do calender photo shoots in bikinis that will probably for the most part be glared at by men who are not looking at them thinking 'oh what lovely, wholesome young ladies'! I have no problem with such things (if this is what somebody wants to do), it's just that I find the way they are treated, the expectation's, along with what they have to do very contradictory (not just calendar shoot, this is just 1 example)! Pro Cheerleaders will continue to be paid so little and be exploited as long as there are girls who are fed how 'amazing it is' & who therefore are prepared to accept what they are told they worth! Yes they may know what the pay is going in but the change needs to start somewhere....just saying 'it's ok as they are aware of the pay going in' is not good enough really & just accepting it will mean this will continue for future generations (not only nfl cheerleading....there is a much bigger picture to all of this)!
I think it all reflects badly on the people at the top of the industry, it shows they do not have respect for everybody in their organisation which is highlighted by such exploitations & inequalities, (otherwise wouldn't they want every person to be at the very least paid fairly/adequately!?).

I started watching Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders...Making the Team 3 seasons ago when a girl from my hometown was trying out. I couldn’t believe it when I realized what little they are paid. They also have different groups of teams and I wonder if there is additional compensation for participating in those as it takes more time committment along with a lot of additional travel. They don't go thorugh the grueling training, selection process, practices and performance expecting to get paid....but for the noteriety and to get 'noticed' (Kind of like Melissa Rycroft) and launch a career in a different industry. I'm kind of torn on this lawsuit. If they are getting more than the minimum wage then the only real complaint is not getting paid for hours worked or OT...that may actually have some bite .

Not to mention traveling, they should be paid for overtime. That’s what any other job would do. And the minimum wage has increased in all states. So that means their wage should increase. Over time pay is due to all of them. And you should get raises every year you are on the team. I mean even after you are chosen you still have to audition to make the team again. Just like regular jobs you get raises.. and the women should also be aloud to take endorsement offers along with the team approval..
