21 years since the Ember to Inferno album release, it dropped my freshman year. Matt is still surprisingly young considering the other bands that were around at the time (he was 17 when the first album was released).
Matt's vocals on Shogun (2008) & In Waves (2011) were some of his most brutal, Trivium's last 3 records since 2017 have also been pretty great with the addition Alex Bent on drums & have been like a whole new era for the band🤘
Some of the best vocals I’ve ever heard from Matt! Matt’s vocals were very close to this heaviness from Shogun to the end of In Waves before he damaged his voice. This is peak BEEFY HEAFY NOW! Paula and Nik are crushing it with the couplecore music!
Not strange since Careless Whisper has been the prelude song in the last Meshuggah's tour. So all of the sudden this old Wham's score has gone crazy Metal 😆
Yes, Paula is a lefty and she doesn't use a pick. She uses her thumbnail. If I'm not mistaken, I think I hear Nik doing background vocals. I love this song! Beefy Heafy indeed 🤘😁🤘🔥
Matt does so many styles of music. I love his twitch streams when I’m getting ready for work. He’s always doing something awesome. I remember seeing Trivium right after In Waves came out in Manhattan and they opened with In Waves. The lights were dark and you see them take their spots and you hear this Nergal-like “INNNNNN WAAAAAAVESSS” like two steps down and this head aging riff, and then he goes into this perfect harmonic singing for the verses. He’s incredible he did every single era of trivium exactly uniquely
Trivium is my favorite band. while Matt has been doing some crazier stuff on stream lately, so far he hasn´t done anything like this on any Trivium album. but their albums Shogun and In The Cort Of The Dragon are absolutely amazing. highly recommended.
You definitely should check out more Trivium. Matt doesn't sing a lot like that on Trivium, but he does have some heavier vocals on some songs, like Dusk Dismantled, and A Skyline Severenve; both off In Waves. Trivium is among my favorite bands, and I've been a fan since the Ascendancy days. I've loved their evolution, and their last 3 albums with drummer Alex Bent are among the best theyve done overall. Different than their early stuff, but I appreciate all their stuff.
Matt experimented with these more extreme vocals on Shogun, which is also arguably Trivium's most experimental and heaviest album to date. Any track from that is definitely worth a listen if you ever get the chance
Tank, what you said about solos/breakdowns is 100% spot on. I love a good breakdown but there is nothing better than a super sick solo, or set of solos. So many bands miss the mark with me because they don't put a solo in their songs. It honestly kind of drives me nuts lol great take!
The Ember to Inferno, Shogun, and In Waves albums from Trivium had very similar vocals from Matt on a lot of the tracks. The Ascendency album (their 2nd album) Matt dialed back on the screams because he was doing them in unhealthy ways, so he took voice lessons and reintroduced it into the sound after he could scream properly without straining his vocals. The Ember to Inferno vocals were very raspy (and you could tell it was harshly done) but it is my favorite album from Trivium. The instrumentals in that album was phenomenal too.
Matt just ascended to a higher God tier of vocals. Absolutely insane if those are him doing the lows after a quarter century of not approaching them at all in Trivium.
The last 3 albums of Trivium since Alex Bent joined the band are amazing. If you want to be even more blown away by Matt vocal listen to the album Fractured by Capharnaum (tech death with Dan Mongrain of Martyr) he was only 16 years old during the recording on that project.
Definitely check out The Sin & The Sentence. I don't think Trivium have ever made a bad album but that one is my favorite. Bangers from start to finish. And shows off Matt's clean & harsh vocals.
Trivium is an awesome band. My favourite. And Matt doesn't normally sound like that. But he's definitely improved massively since ascendancy. You really should check more Trivium out. Their sound keeps evolving and they definitely keep getting better
He's looking more and more like a member of electric callboy every day. Lol i think the band is rubbing of on him, it's the beard and stache, my brain is stuck on old tank. Love the channel brother, keep on keepen on.
Tank my man, Shogun album is one of their best albums. Sin and the Sentence with Alex Bent just was an amazing addition to Trivium. Vengeance, Silence in The Snow Matt had throat issues and call Avenge Sevenfold to get the voice coach to scream healthier. Still has some bangers on those two albums.
That’s all Matt Tank. Matt can definitely do heavier harsher vocals it’s not new to him. He doesn’t often, but he has been trying to improve his voice/vocal range over the years so he can do it more properly without destroying it. This is probably the heaviest his vocals have sounded so far. A good Trivium song to check out with Matt’s heavier vocals is “Dusk Dismantled”.
I agree that Dusk Dismantled is one of his heaviest vocal performances but this is far and away the most "deathcore" he has ever sounded by a fair bit.
Every single time Nik blows my mind with his musical creativity, watched his vid from a stream making metal riffs outa random clips, and his ability to hear something and instantly have like 4 good riff ideas in his head is insane! Paula is just nuts on guitar, being a lefty and the fact she can play this kinda chunky-rifftastic-epic soloing, with her fucking finger nail is nuts 😂 Matt blew me away on this too im like you only ever really listened to a few trivium and never heard any like that, that and im sure nik lives near matt now (remember seeing nik post a pic with him at a bbq) they prob did this acc in person minus chris with the drums which is ace to see
as some one who has been listening to trivium forever i've never heard matt go that low, but after listening to it back you can tell that it is all him on vocals,
Check out "Trivium - Dusk Dismantled" (In Waves album), where Matt does his lower guttural growls more often. He throws em here and there on the record where necessary too.
on songs that will probably never be performed live, Matt is willing to go CRAAAZY on vocals. He tends to play it safe with Trivium stuff because it has to be done live over n over again
Tank we were rocking the same length beard and I recently shaved mine off also. Dk if I’m going to go back to the big beard, I’m actually kind of enjoying it being shorter and I’m liking the change
God Damn, Matt!!! I love Trivium and i don't think i've heard this from him before. He does harsh vocals, but holy shit this is a new level. And it works well with him.
Shogun is one of the best metal albums ever. Between 2008 and the release of their last three albums, they went through several drummers and explored a lot of different directions. It's a journey in which everything is fresh, but you never know what to expect from one Trivium album to the next. However, the last three albums have been freaking amazing since they found their drummer, Alex Bent.
Shattering the skies above is a good one to hear his range. Granted, that song is also over 15 years old, but you can hear the deeper growls he can do on that track.
Trivium is epic for sure and one of my all-time favourites. TankTheTech, please react/give a tribute to the Fleshgod Apocalypse, man! Greetings from a huge metal fan!
Trivium is my favorite band of all time and has been for a while now. If you want some vocally heavier Trivium stuff maybe try one of the following: Dusk Dismantled A Skyline's Severance Thrown Into the Fire Amongst the Shadows and the Stones (my personal favorite of those I mentioned) Bending the Arc to Fear In the Court of the Dragon
It harsher than normal for matt, but check out court of the dragon, and there are def those kinda vocals in the title track. Also in Phalanx. Not as deep, but he def does those kinda things now. Phalanx so good a song, Alex Bent's drumming is sick.
Tank i am waiting to see your reaction to Jinjer' s recent single Someone's Daughter. Seriously, as impressive Tati's vocals are the highlight for me was the instrumentation....they went nuts

You know you're aging when you realize Trivium's been around for 25 years.
Then you realize they've been putting out nothing but bangers for a quarter century
WAIT WHAT
No wonder these 00's bands can be called dad metal lol
My knees and back feel like they’ve been Drowned and Torn Asunder
21 years since the Ember to Inferno album release, it dropped my freshman year. Matt is still surprisingly young considering the other bands that were around at the time (he was 17 when the first album was released).
1990 was 40 years ago..
Heafy has only REALLY recently unlocked this new heavy range he can do safely, it’s evolved just in the last few weeks
After he blew out his voice, he’s been training to do harsh vocals correctly
But yeah only recently has he reached new levels
As a Trivium fan "mostly from Silence in the Snow" to their last album, when did Heafy go full deathcore?
@@Carl-Gunderson he can do it all now, and regularly does

Shogun is one of my favorite trivium albums
Matt do have his solo thing going "IBARAKI" inspired by black metal.
4:49 the careless whisper riff in this guitar solo
I had no idea Matt could do lows like that, and i've been listening to Trivium for awhile, lol.
Same
Ya, he can scream, but I've never heard lows like that from him.
Same but it make sense, he's been hanging out with some deathcore bands lately. Check "The witch beckons" from signs of the swarm. @jhamilton1007
You should have a listen to Shogun's bonus tracks, sick lows!
My jaw dropped when I listened to the first few seconds in the verse 😅
Some of the best vocals I’ve ever heard from Matt! Matt’s vocals were very close to this heaviness from Shogun to the end of In Waves before he damaged his voice. This is peak BEEFY HEAFY NOW! Paula and Nik are crushing it with the couplecore music!
Listen to The Sin And The Sentence. Its Alex Bents first album with Trivium and you can tell they leveled up with him behind the kit
"Sin and the Sentence" gets my vote.
4:46 Careless whisper
Beat me to it
Was totally Careless Whisper 😂
lol thought i was crazy for a second haha
I paused it right after that and came straight to the comments for confirmation.
Not strange since Careless Whisper has been the prelude song in the last Meshuggah's tour. So all of the sudden this old Wham's score has gone crazy Metal 😆
Nik's and Paula's new project is so cool! I'm so excited to see what's happening!
You have to listen to Trivium's Shogun album. It's my favorite of them.
It’s underrated for sure
Matt Heafy starting to resemble Load-era Kirk Hammett 😂
I think he kinda looks like Kirk from the start
@@anvil777 true, but maybe the hair is thining a bit more now 😥 #happenstousall

Matt’s vocals left me stun locked, I don’t think I’ve ever heard him go that hard
I've been a massive Trivium fan since their first album, and this might be the hardest he's ever gone. Guh damn.
Yes, Paula is a lefty and she doesn't use a pick. She uses her thumbnail. If I'm not mistaken, I think I hear Nik doing background vocals. I love this song! Beefy Heafy indeed 🤘😁🤘🔥
Def get caught up on Trivium, you'd enjoy it! These are not his consistent Trivium vocals and it's epic to hear this range from Matt!
Those chorus vox have strong Bleed From Within vibes with how it's layered. Not mad at that. This was a solid track!

Nik and Paula are giving me heavy Synyster and Zacky vibes with the opposite hands and the harmonies.
Better vocals than all of his other Trivium stuff
the careless whisper harmony in the guitar solo was a tasty touch. i'm here for it
Matt has really been killing it recently on the vocals! A lot of filth in those screams! And as usual great guitar work from Nik and Paula!
That lil Careless Whisper riff in there is sick.
The Careless Whisper part of the solo was a nice touch.
really want to hear more of matt doing this, its insane :D
Yup you gotta listen to all their albums bro. You won’t be disappointed
Awesome video man !! Greetings from a heavy metal vocalist from Mount Juliet, Tennessee 🔥
Well, Tank that certainly illustrates the diversity of the word. When you started out watching the video.

Matt experimented with these more extreme vocals on Shogun, which is also arguably Trivium's most experimental and heaviest album to date. Any track from that is definitely worth a listen if you ever get the chance

Matt got super awesome on the screaming scenario when he learned on how to scream properly, but you can tell when singing the Wretchedness inside.
Skip Silence in the Snow and Vengeance Falls and listen to the rest of Trivium's discography.
God Damn, Matt!!! I love Trivium and i don't think i've heard this from him before. He does harsh vocals, but holy shit this is a new level. And it works well with him.
