  • This #MilitaryMonday features the United States Airforce Hymn called "Wild Blue Yonder".
    On September 18, 1947, the Department of the Air Force was created under the National Security Act of 1947.
    The different names that the Airforce had through the years:
    Air Service, U.S. Army (24 May 1918 - 2 July 1926)
    U.S. Army Air Corps (2 July 1926 - 20 June 1941)
    U.S. Army Air Forces (20 June 1941 - 17 September 1947)
    History of the Airforce Hymn:
    In 1937, after the U.S. military had been developing airplanes for more than a decade, the Assistant Chief of the Air Corps, Brigadier General Henry Arnold, thought the Army Air Corps needed a fight song similar to the Army, Navy, and Marine Corps. Out of the 757 scores submitted, the one composed by Robert MacArthur Crawford (1899-1961) was selected by a committee of Air Force wives.
    "Fly-Fight-Win” Formally adopted in 2010, the U.S. Air Force's motto of “Aim High … Fly-Fight-Win” is both a call-to-action and a promise in response. The Air Force always pushes itself to new heights and expects its airmen to do the same.
    Tune Lyrics:
    Off we go into the wild blue yonder,
    Climbing high into the sun;
    Here they come zooming to meet our thunder,
    At 'em, boys, Give 'er the gun! (Give 'er the gun now!)
    Down we dive, spouting our flame from under,
    Off with one helluva roar!
    We live in fame or go down in flame. Hey!
    Nothing will stop the U.S. Air Force!
    Minds of men fashioned a crate of thunder,
    Sent it high into the blue;
    Hands of men blasted the world asunder;
    How they lived God only knew! (God only knew then!)
    Souls of men dreaming of skies to conquer
    Gave us wings, ever to soar!
    With scouts before And bombers galore. Hey!
    Nothing'll stop the U.S. Air Force!
