My Mom was a former addict, She had passed away a few years ago; I loved her dearly. She was always someone that wanted more in life, but due to the abuse of her parents She would never get it. She wanted to become something bigger in life. When I see someone like the people in this video; drooling on the pavement, I can only imagine that they're wishing they could do the same in the moments of sober lucidity. I know you've heard it before, but honestly you are doing good work here...It's not anything you really see on the news and a lot of people like myself have never lived in dense or downtown areas this bad, but seeing videos like this is really eye-opening and shows what an average day looks like for so many citizens. A lot of those people are there nearly every day, and so many seem to be struggling with one thing or another - some way more than others with problems such as drug use and homelessness

Look up Northern Liberties....we have dog parks, restaurants, cafes, and most people in the area are home owners. This is not an accurate description of city life

You can't just ignore that - the proof is in stuff like this. Some places will have it more rough than others at any given time - I can't act like I know where Philly is on that ranking, and I'm not going to try, but you're going to tell me he just paid a few hundred actors to be out there and dirty the street up with trash and all kinds of things? I have a friend at the restaurant I work at who smokes fentanyl daily. He’s basically homeless too, but he is a hard worker and a good guy despite the obvious problems he has in his life. I know he had a difficult upbringing and grew up with parents who were also heavy drug users. I come from an upper class, stable family. He and I come from entirely different worlds, but we still became close to one another. I watched him a few times smoke fentanyl right in front of me, which is never something I thought I’d see in person, especially by someone I know. My hope is that he knew that I wouldn’t see him as a bad or lesser person for doing so.
And then one day several months ago he just disappeared. Nobody has been able to find him. I know his dad even called the restaurant to see if anyone there knew where he was. I think about him often. I don’t even know if he’s alive. I guess my point with all of this is that if you can get past that instinct to shy away from these people, you can still connect and empathize with them, even if you live completely different lives. There are many good-but broken-people out there on the street. And I hope my friend comes back.

It's a local politician problem. The local politicians are corrupt and mismanage the city, but the people keep electing them. The citizens of the city vote for this. If a candidate were to run on a platform of cleaning up Kensington, going after drug dealers, and forcing the homeless into shelters, they would lose by a wide margin, it's quite sad. People are under the mistaken belief that giving drug addicts drugs is the most humane way to deal with them, choosing to view them as victims (which they are regardless) instead of criminal users. Drug addicts will always exist, but allowing them to congregate and distribute narcotics without fear of arrest has surely super charged the problem.

Thank you for the video. I occasionally watch these type of walking from A to B videos. All I have seen so far are silent with just the ambient audio. This is the first one I have seen with commentary, and I wasn't sure if I would enjoy it, but it was great. It felt like I had my personal tour guide. I love how many interesting details you could give about all the different places.

    • @liz090833
      @liz090833 Před 2 lety +2

hi. You have a lot of options now that weren't available before the pandemic. I don't know what you're struggling with but I want you to know, you CAN get better. I swear you can, if you want to. It's a process. In the beginning I'd get a week, fall off, 30 days, fall off. 90 days? Fall TF off. But then I got a year and used. It didn't feel good, it felt horrible and I couldn't wait to be clean again. That continued for another 2 years, this annual fuck up. Until I just made up my mind that I really liked having a peaceful existence where I didn't have to go without things I wanted or needed bc of my addiction and 8 years have flown by, clean. So, if you're struggling, that's good bc it means you're fighting! Don't beat yourself up, just try different things until you figure out what helps the most. For me a meeting felt very cult like and condescending. Then I started to explore Taoism, Buddhism and other spiritual paths and I got a ton of information on things like emotions and inner child work, meditation and more. Just keep fighting bc you WILL succeed and grow, I promise! Back to those options, check out IrecoveryUSA and see if they serve your area. You get a therapist you meet with weekly, mental health medications if you need it, SUBOXONE that is sent to a pharmacy of your choosing too. If you don't have money for treatment, they accept medicaid & health insurance. If you don't have cash, don't hesitate to get in touch bc they'll work something out with you anyway. Apply for what is called share cost Medicaid. Tell them your plans to get help and they'll drastically reduce your costs to a little as 2.00 for your appointments and 2.00 to get your meds. There's a lot of these providers, they're just my favorite! Therapy is amazing, it's made a lot of improvement in my life and the way I process my emotions. Don't give up. You mess up, I'm okay with that. You mess up and stay like that, that's a problem. Good luck and thank you for being vulnerable bc it helps others more than you know. Respect! 💯❤️

I've walked through a lot of the areas you went through in this video, and found it terrifying. It's strange to realize that this exists within our country, and I think that a lot of people don't think about these sorts of areas or are even aware of their existence. It's backwards that we strain so much considering minor social issues and first-world nicities when this still exists in our country. A lot of people don't have their priorities straight when it comes to boosting the quality of life of Americans. This should take priority over, say, building a new sports stadium, or debating gender roles in a society.

The reason WE feel terrified in areas like this is because we're aware that there is a problem. The neighborhood is "sick" and the people in the area suffer for it. At least that's how I think about it.

I worked in my dad's store near Clementine Street next to the Doctor's office, now a nail salon, in the early 80s. My dad was president of the Greater Kensington Business Association. There were all kinds of stores along the Avenue for clothes, shoes, electronics, flowers, gifts, hardware, lamps, new appliances, etc.

I used to cry every time I would walk or drive under the EL. I fed a few ppl, but there’s so many that are hurting and it’s heart breaking! you want to do so much but you can’t save everyone. This is the zombie apocalypse. Growing up, it didn’t look like this. Philly had so much pride respect and love. I wish I had a solution. There are ppl in this video that I know and they are only in their 30’s. To add, they are some thorough ass ppl. Very good ppl! they just had unfortunate events happen. There are Doctors, lawyers, technicians , mechanics but mainly veterans out here. I pray for our home town 215 is a Diamond in the rough. We will over come this in Jesus name 🙏 great video btw this is professionalism at its finest! Sending you love and blessings for prosperity in all aspects of your life and all endeavors ❤️ also you are one brave mo fo I was afraid for you this whole video but respect ✊🏼

This was a great video to watch. I've never been to Philly and many big cities (I'm a farm land kind of guy).
    Cheers and best of luck!!

Societal collapse ... like a third world country. It is amazing that our government is spending $100 billion in Ukraine this year, and spent more than $3 TRILLION in the middle east over the past 20 years, but won't invest the time and money to make domestic cities like Philly safe and livable. City, state, and federal leaders have left cities like Philly (and others) to rot away.

I grew up there in the early 90s. The park where the police were walking to on Orleans was nicknamed needle park even then. The area after somerset has always been like that, but not as bad. Crazy I survived. I was a kid around 9 years old walking those streets

Yea, someone with some balls needs to go door to door in this neighborhood, gather 15 - 20 adults that are sick of this crap.
Then that group of people legally arms themselves and drags these drug addicts off their streets and dumps them in rich areas, if the cops say shit to you, you tell them your doing what they won't do, cleaning up the neighborhood.
Every day you drag these addicts off your streets and then you start picking up all the trash, needles, etc.
A few months later this place would not look like it does, but of course no one has the balls or gumption to clean up their own neighborhoods, big daddy govt. has to do it. Pathetic.

So much potential that I just dont think will get any better any time soon. I miss living there but watch videos like this to remind me Im not ready to move back to a similar place.
