Phil self sabotaged himself putting mabiala in the game. The back 3 should be zuparic Miller and Miller.
And keep Evander, Jonathan and mora up top. With a 4 block midfield of Antony chara Paredes Moreno. There, I just did your job and did it better. It's not rocket science. Better defense, speed and youth in the midfield and your goal dangerous players around the box.

Evander is a ball handler and play maker he belongs more in the middle. He can reliably bring possession deeper into the opponent's side. A bit like.Nagbe used to be. Yes he's a goal scorer but he can crack them from distance (nycfc) or see someone to dish to because r reads the field well. That being said, I still haven't warmed up to him at all.
He gives off an air that he could care less whether the team wins or loses. I don't see a passion. He loses the ball often when he shouldn't, and doesn't seem like much of a threat for most of the game .

@judebarnes9209 his defense isn't good enough to play deeper. The problem has been him getting on the ball when he is higher. Switching to a 3 back system it allows us to push higher and control higher up the pitch. It also allows for extra coverage deeper. And when Paredes came in, he was helping transition forward. That's why we started to get more chances in the second half. Because it pushed evander forward, and he was able to combine with Jonathan and mora.
The reality is that masquera has been poor this year. He has one of the lowest per game ratings of all regular starters. But Moreno and Antony are still young and don't have the soccer IQ and maturity to be consistent goal scorers. What they do have is speed, youth, and good transition play. So play them as wingbacks, which is essentially mid wingers with more defensive responsibilities. Play chara and Paredes in the middle. Move Evander just ahead of the midfield 4 and play a two striker sisterly with Jonathan and mora. This would allow Jonathan to play center left and mora center right with overlapping runs from Antony and Moreno, who could pinch in or go wide. Essentially, making it a front 4 when attacking and having Evander behind them finding the killer ball around the box

@judebarnes9209 also, I agree with your Evander comment. It does seem like he thinks he is too good for this team. He has no passion to play. I really didn't like his signing, and now I really don't like it. If he doesn't want to be here then leave.
