    Nice to see the family working together...
    And the ranch progressing along nicely..
    What I'm curious about...
    Is why put all the extra effert rolling the pipe up the hill...
    And not start at the top and roll the pipe down hill...

      Im aasuming its because they were still digging from the storagr tank down since it was much more time consuminh. He was easily able to dig out from the shop up. He got the line laid and filled in so he back fill it and not have that area blocked ogf

    We put it up about 100 ft above the house so if we ever have problems with electricity, since were off grid, we still have water.

      Elliot it depends on the soil. In this case the soil is very stable overall so the risk is minimal. The soil only becomes unstable when wet so in rain or in a spot with surface water.

    No control wire? what is the plan for the overflow as the pump will keep running when the tank is full without a signal to turn off.

    • @bustedwagonranch4546
      @bustedwagonranch4546  Před 5 lety +1

      Andrew H there is a control wire. It was buried above the water line a few feet. I was told it would be better to do that way just in case so my wife is never immersedin water. It would be less problematic that way

  • @Tomhohenadel
    @Tomhohenadel Před 5 lety +2

    What size of pump (hp) will you need to pump the water that high. Fighting forest fires, we could use two wajax pumps in tandem to pump up high hills

    • @TheUserid82
      @TheUserid82 Před 5 lety +1

      Most well pumps are already made to send the water up 200-600 feet so just a standard pump should handle it without any problems.

  • @diversifiedacreshomestead102

    Great job. I’m a little confused. Will you use the line to fill the tank and supply to the shop house or is there a second line to send the water up to the tank and the blue line gravity feeds the house?

    • @tbirdracefan
      @tbirdracefan Před 5 lety

      Me too. It looks to me like only the pipe from the storage tank to the home is in. Also as someone else noted, a control wire will need to accompany the line from the spring to the storage tank.

    • @bustedwagonranch4546
      @bustedwagonranch4546  Před 4 lety

      This is a one line system. It fills the tank and stays charged to supply water to the someday house and the shop.

    I don’t understand why you and Heath need the water tank so high. Gravity feed of course but can’t you pump directly from the cistern to the house or barn

    • @blitzburghbilly7813
      @blitzburghbilly7813 Před 5 lety +1

      AND HOW DOZE THE PUMPS GET RUN ?
      WITH ELECTRICITY RIGHT TOM...
      WHICH WILL TAKE (MORE) SOLAR
      PANELS AND BATTERIES WHICH TAKES
      MORE (MONEY) ......
      THINK 🤔 1st. TOM .....

    • @Tomhohenadel
      @Tomhohenadel Před 5 lety +1

      You have not answered my question. Why not pump directly to the house

    • @jimh712
      @jimh712 Před 5 lety +1

      The tank is for gravity pressure. And storage capacity...
      What would happen if the spring started running slow and the whole family and animals were using water...
      The storage tank is a cushion...
      What ever happens there's 2500 gallons of water sitting up above...

    • @TheUserid82
      @TheUserid82 Před 5 lety +1

      Tom to run the pump on demand would require a battery bank. To run directly off solar to a holding tank you just need a tank large enough to last a few days of bad weather.
      Direct drive solar pumps can outlast the panels in grit free water where a battery bank they would be replacing in 5-10 years.

    • @Tomhohenadel
      @Tomhohenadel Před 5 lety +2

      Thanks Andrew. Just hope the spring’s flow doesn’t reduce. I hope the 2500 gal is sufficient to last any drought. I was in fish culture for 35 years and springs are notorious for not being dependable

      Ina Dollard that would just make sense. Wouldn't want to do that. I started at the shop and rolled out the 300 ft rolls so we just kept heading up hill rather than carrying those big rolls up hill.

  • @Blessings.429
    @Blessings.429 Před 5 lety

    Ok if the well is down the mountain, why plumb for the water to go up hill just to go back down. Older lady here guys who does not know theirs and outs so no negative nancies please

    • @bustedwagonranch4546
      @bustedwagonranch4546  Před 5 lety

      Naice Woolon we put the tank up the mountain so we would have water if there is ever a problem with power we would still have more than a weeks worth of water. Also being off grid on solar we won't have a pressure tank dragging on our battery bank.

    I'm a firm believer that kids should take chances and learn from doing but the kid (or anyone) just hanging on to the side of a backhoe while moving around, especially through ruts, is just plain dangerous.
