@@haukewalden2840 It's actually often discussed on the likes of the WAN show and some of the more non-scripted videos they do that they must return a lot of the products sent to them. As far as I have gathered, it depends on how generous the company is feeling about their review samples. Some even strike a deal that the sample must be given away in some sort of draw. Some let them keep the item outright.
@@haukewalden2840 that depends on the reach of the youtuber I think. For smaller channels it's more likely that they have to send the review samples back if they even get one in the first place. Having a positive review or showcase on a 12 million subscriber channel makes the sponsor so much money that they probably don't care wether they get the product back or not.

AMD is overrated. I'm having driver issues resuming from sleep with my Ideapad 5 14 + AMD 4800U. Intel is slower but the drivers are better.

Honestly if you avoid an ultrabook because it has an intel processor, you're missing on something. Ultrabooks aren't made to do multiple heavy render or compilation. That's what desktop replacement (and desktop themselves) are for. It's cool to have the option to do it if you have to make a small change to something on the go, but you'll never get a good experience on an ultrabook for that kind of workload because they aren't made for it. An ultrabook sets itself apart with its outer shell : its keyboard, screen, trackpad, etc... Unless you're talking about very low end laptops, where the experience is significantly changed by a better processor, the internals of an ultrabook aren't really that important. It's not that I believe Intel is better than AMD on laptops for some reason, it's just that I don't give a f*** about a laptop processor as long as it decent if the product in itself is sick.

@@LiLBitsDK I'm not missing it. I'm saying it doesn't matter. Sure, it would matter if this laptop did have two version, one with each processor (and I would definitely go AMD). But it doesn't. So you can't say "wow it's so much worse than an AMD laptop" because there is no point of comparison. Maybe it's a bit slower. But maybe it has a better keyboard, or screen, or whatever. A laptop is a product as a whole. And even if, in the current market, AMD's processor are sick, eliminating a laptop because it doesn't have a specific processor, even if all the other boxes are ticked is dumb. And that is even more clear in the case of an Ultrabook, where the speed of the processor really isn't the main interest.
The choice between AMD and intel is clear when buying a desktop because these preoccupation are independent. Having a certain CPU doesn't restrain you to a specific keyboard or anything. It is also clear when the laptop exist in both version because it become n isolated question where the answer is clear. But on a laptop as a whole, maybe the processor is slower, but the package as a whole could totally still give you a better run for your money than a competitor using AMD.

For example, 8.1 is still supported, and with Classic Shell, which fixes literally all the problems Windows 8 had, you're left with an enhanced if somewhat more boring looking 7.
Also, Linux has made some MASSIVE strides. This isn't the early 2000s anymore.
it sounds like Linus' perfect laptop would be a Lenovo X1 carbon. super lightweight, thunderbolt ports, and super firm keyboard.
LG Gram looks amazing but one feature I'd like, especially from a tablet foldable laptop is, having the power button on the side with inwards bump to reduce accidental pushes. Also fingerprint register on power button isn't my cup of tea

I bought the 17" i5 model in February when I was in Japan. Perfect travel companion for me. Sad thing is, thermals are awful and it tends to overheat when battery is really low (under 5%). Great thing: everything worked out of the box when I put Linux on it (Kubuntu and Kali).
Does it overheat in Windows too?

the problem is (if its even possible) the thunderbolt 3.
since 10th gen its integrated to the CPU with intel and you can just use that to go to your ports.
I dont even know if ryzen 4000 supports thundertbolt + even if it does it needs an external chip that sucks up extra PCIe lanes + board space + money that could be used otherwise.
I would like to see ryzen mobile to also have intrinsic support for thunderbolt .. but sadly the current gen doesnt have it (iirc)

Intel mobile processor are MORE than sufficient for an ultrabook. If you want to make render and video editing, sure, take something thicker and go AMD. But in ultrabooks where you'll mainly do light tasks, past a certain treshold (basically, anything that is ryzen something or i something) the actual build quality, storage, screen, keyboard and trackpad are WAAAAY more important than the processor to give you a good experience.

If its really a pure typing experience you are looking for in a thin and light laptop, I think you have really overlooked some of the Lenovo offerings, the C740 is such a delight to type on great feedback and placement of keys.

What do you guys use thunderbolt for ? I personally don't see any utility excepted for e gpu but that unpractical when you're on the move. Like seriously, i've never used thunderbolt, DP & usb a are much more important for me.

@@yuuji_ Yeah well some of us want ONE computer. External GPU at home, unplug that and go out and about with the built-in graphics being good enough for remote use. It actually is pretty important to a lot of people.
Can only recommend the 17" Gram, discovered it through LTT a year ago, bought it and it didn't disappoint. I agree that 1440p at 17" is the sweet spot. Only flaw is it runs hot (Intel 8th gen version on model 17Z990-V), should be fixed in the 2020 version, and the speakers are weak. Other than that it's perfect! No noticeable battery degradation (charging locked at 80% since day 1), excellent display, enjoyable keyboard feedback, the light weight definitely makes me use it much more often and in more situations than I did previous laptops like a 15" MBP. Props to LG for innovating and reviving the 17" trend 👏

Don't you love it when the power button is one of the normal keys on the keyboard? Because what fun is life when you don't run the risk of powering down your laptop as your taking notes in the middle of a meeting? At least these power keys are recessed to help avoid an accidental powerdown.

I love my LG Gram 17 2020. I added another 1TB drive and added 32GB of RAM (total 40GB) and have a dynamite laptop that's easy to carry around and has great performance for my needs. Only change I'd wish for is this in a 2n1 form factor.

Also there are some AMD boards with thunderbolt, not exclusive just licensed. Unfortunately no AMD laptops with thunderbolt.
My skylake xps 15 also charges via thunderbolt even though it's not advertised as such. Basically it's when you dock it in their Dell dock via thunderbolt it also gets charged through the dock.
If it's that expensive, I'm expecting way less deck flex and screen wobble

I am using a 2019 LG gram 13 as my "daily driver" because of your videos. Only complaint is that I travel with it a lot and the outside scratches easily. Other than that, performance, keyboard and battery life are excellent. I trust your judgement Linus.

My Inspiron 15 has Type-C charging but came with a barrel connector in the box, I think the idea is that you either already have a universal charger or you want to pick the charger that suits all of your devices. It worked out perfectly for me because I leave my cheap barrel connector at the office and keep a 60w Type-C brick with some extra A ports in my bag to power my laptop and any other devices I need at home or on the road.

For Type C charging check the power adapter power output. It might be higher than 100W which is the max for Type C. If it's higher then they probably decided not to risk with Type C when under full load you can discharge it faster than charge.
