      Jami, I like to use a bourbon vanilla. The brand I can find available in many stores is Rodelle. Unfortunately, it is distinguishable by price, but it offers a far better flavor than your standard McCormick. 🙂

    This is such a good demonstration. I'm new to baking and was wondering why this was happening. There are a bunch of no spread cookie videos but not many that compare brands and WHY.
    Your videos are well produced, you guys are very likeable and do a great job! Good luck to your youtube career and thank you for dropping this knowledge for us novice bakers!

    Freezing the dough prevents too much spreading, freez at least 2 hours before baking to keep the butter solid

    So glad to see this. I just got the idea to try the Betty Crocker mix just to see. I added the flour AND 3 tbl corn starch. Did pretty good. First day sweet chewy cookie. Decorated them. Looked great but day 3 they tasted awful. Still looked fabulous but oh my. Hard as a rock. Even dunked in hot coffee cld not make these cookies edible. I thought I was on to something but no. Enjoyed you both.. Have you tried cornstarch? Texas here.

    Is your cookie soft and chewy or more firm and crisp? And is it a little or a lot sweet? That's the only thing the video needed to be perfect for me. Great job!

    • @lisaclark9096
      @lisaclark9096 Před 2 lety +1

      The cookie is firm, not crispy, but I wouldn’t call it soft. It is just the tiniest bit sweet to accommodate the sweet icing.

    • @LisaCooksFood

      We use granulated sugar in the dough. Caster sugar is similar, but a finer grain so it should work if you measure by weight.

    These cookies look like they would be super hard… is this correct or are they soft?

    • @LisaCooksFood
      @LisaCooksFood  Před rokem

      These cookies are firm in the sturdy sense and not easily squished between your fingers (though possible). They bend only minimally before breaking without a snap. They are neither crunchy nor cakey. They are not difficult to chew or tough in that sense. They crumble nicely in the mouth and benefit greatly from the sweetness of icing, as they are not very sweet on their own.

    • @LisaCooksFood
      @LisaCooksFood  Před 2 lety

      Thanks for watching! Watch this video to understand why I don’t use cups and grams when I bake. However, if you insist, generally 135 grams per cup of flour and 200 grams per cup of sugar are a good convert. czcams.com/video/hhLpHY1TbO8/video.html

    Hello tryed your recipe for the sugar recipe but mine came out tasting like biscuits and swelled up .. I’m not a baker🥲😂 but can you tell me what I did wrong thanks !

    • @lisaclark9096
      @lisaclark9096 Před 2 lety +2

      Oh dear. Any number of things could have gone wrong. Over mixing, rolled too thick, not enough or cheap flavoring… incorrect ingredients, like self rising flour, baking powder…
      I’m so sorry they didn’t turn out for you. The cookies are generally less sweet than the kinds you would make without icing, but it makes the vanilla or other flavoring very important. If they swelled up, something tells me that wasn’t the only problem with the dough, though.

    • @crystalH30
      @crystalH30 Před 2 lety +1

      I used a handheld mixer so maybe I over mixed … and I just noticed my baking powder is double acting maybe that could be part of it .. 😅☹️😄

    • @lisaclark9096
      @lisaclark9096 Před 2 lety

      @@crystalH30 double acting baking powder is normal. Take a look at this, which explains how baking powder works. There is such a thing as single acting (it only has one type of acid in it), but you won’t find it easily in a regular store.

    • @LisaCooksFood
      @LisaCooksFood  Před 3 lety

      It varies greatly depending on what size your cutters are, but it can make about 2.5 dozen 2 inch cookies. Sometimes I only get 10 large cookies, 15 medium ones, or dozens of mini cookies.
