Happy December Everyone! This year has FLOWN by and I can't believe it's ALREADY almost Christmas! And I definitely have a present for you guys I plan on uploading then.
But BEFORE that! I got a EXTREMELY HUGE Treat to share with you guys, and I couldn't think of better elevators to kick off the Christmas season with!
This building, also known as the Tooke Brothers Building, was completed in 1891, and features 2 Original Otis Black Button Elevators dating back to the Early 1950s! Despite being nearly 70 years old (if they aren't already), both of these elevators run EXCELLENTLY, are VERY Clean & look great for an Industrial Building like this, are VERY FAST & Efficient for the 4 floors this building serves and between that along with how clean the buttons are and that most of the indicator lights work, it's clear the buildings owners care about these elevators and they've withstood the test of time remarkably well! As mentioned, there's 2 of them here and while both of them are EPIC and have LOUD Relays, although I personally like the first one more as the Motor is VERY LOUD & EPIC Sounding, due to windows in the shaft, you can see through the vents which is pretty cool AND on some of the floors, they have the "Christmas Light" arrows in the call stations, which light up nice and BRIGHTLY and one of the main reasons I thought these elevators would be a good way to get into the Christmas Spirit!
HOWEVER, as BEAUTIFUL, EPIC, Well Kept and "Christmassy" the Otis Black Button Elevators here are, they're not even the best elevators in the building!
Did I mention that this place was originally built in 1891 and is an Industrial Building!?! If not, well it is and you know what that means, right!?!
We have some FREIGHT ELEVATORS here, but they're not ANY kind of Elevator though, we have TWO 100% ORIGINAL Freight Elevators installed by a Company Known as "The Darling Brothers Company" and they date all the way back to 1891 and are some of the OLDEST Freight Elevators in Canada (believe it or not, I did find one somewhere else in MTL older than these, stay tuned for that!) and some of the oldest elevators in Canada as a whole!
In this video, we only ride one of the two Freight Elevators as one of them was pitch black inside and had lots of foot traffic going on beside it, however the one I did get to ride was truly AMAZING!!!!
From the Wooden Gates, Wooden Guiderails, Antiquated Iron Cab and the fixtures, I haven't been on many elevators if ANY that have felt more ANTIQUATED than this one and while I did film multiple Freight Elevators in Montreal, this one was EASILY the best one!!!
In addition to the features that make this elevator feel so ANCIENT and COOL, the Motor is ONE OF THE BEST Sounding Motors I've EVER HEARD on ANY Elevator PERIOD and I love how you can see through the shaft to see the Otis while riding this thing, and the Relays are EPIC Sounding, and overall, this thing is just AN AMAZING, HISTORIC TREASURE in every way imaginable! You could even argue that this is the world's oldest scenic elevator as there are Windows on the sides of the shaft that allow for views of the outside of the building!!! All in all, a TRULY AMAZING and INCREDIBLE Elevator that is in EXCELLENT Condition for being over 130 YEARS OLD that is EASILY the COOLEST Freight Elevators I've EVER BEEN ON!!!
Overall, this is one of the most Amazing Collections of elevators I've EVER seen in a single building, featuring both one of my favorite Otis Black Button installs EVER as well as the Coolest Freighter I've been on EVER and I give huge props to Allied for maintaining these elevators and the building as a whole IMMACULATELY!!!
I am telling you RIGHT NOW that if you miss this place during a visit to Montreal, YOU ARE MISSING OUT!!! And the nice thing is, they even have a good Donut shop in the lobby! ;)
As always, I hope you enjoy the video, and let me know what you think of these in the comments below!
    Installed:
    Darling Brothers Freight Elevators: 1891

This is the reason why I really want to go back to Montreal, find a job there and live there! There are so many interesting elevators in Montreal, more than any other city I've been!
(plus the good quality of life and good job opportunities 😂)
I don't know how you've been able to discover these elevators, since this is in a remote area of the city, but it shows that in Montreal, getting off the main streets always lead you to masterpieces!

Montreal is definitely in my top 5 favorite cities for elevators and definitely in the top 10 best cities for finding original vintage elevators in the US/Canada! I wish you the best of luck in trying to live there, not only are there many cool elevators but it's a great city with a lot to do and beautiful architecture and great food!

I think the light switch on the second freight was turned off. It's on the top of the main control panel.
