The first automatic watch introduced by HMT had the words Day Date printed below the metal HMT logo on the dial. I remember, in the good old days, we had to wait for delivery of the watch. Finally, I bought a black colour dial automatic watch from a cooperative store called Kreta Bipani in Hazra Road junction in Kolkata. That had the words Day Date printed on the dial. Super watches.

I recently was able to get my hands on an original yellow dial HMT Rajat Automatic (pre 1974 I assume as it does not say Rajat, just HMT Automatic). The case is anodised aluminium with 6906 movement on dial. I couldn’t find any similar iterations online that combined turtle case back + yellow dial + anodised body. I am told it’s 100% authentic and the seller claims to have verified with HMT collectors online but would be nice if I could get it verified myself. Nonetheless, it’s a beautiful watch and very lucky to have procured it. Having no model name on the dial just makes it more special!🥂
