It's not just the fee for quitting. It's also the cost and burden you have because everything is in proprietary formats that only work properly with Adobe Software. But according to James Lee's earlier video "working properly" is not adobe software. So basically you are f'ed. Good luck quitting. Btw that wasn't sarcasm, good luck quitting you will need it.

@@fredbyoutubing I don't know if it's actually real, but they certainly try their best to make it so they are the only option out there, there are some good alternatives, but nothing is as interconnected and powerful as the Adobe suite.

Good alternatives to Adobe:
- Davinci Resolve (Premiere, After Effects, Audition)
- Serif Affinity (Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator)
Resolve has a free version and both companies are without subscriptions. You pay once.
clip studio paint also, depending on what you're wanting to do

@@menacingpyro2005 Or not even pirate - just switch. There are now plenty of free alternatives. They may not capture 100% of what Adobe's producs cover (though in some cases the free alternatives may even be better) but if they get to 90-95%, that's good enough for most people.

For those thinking the "make it cost more to leave" bar was (solely) about the cancellation fee...remind Us again what happens to being able to access potentially decades of work stored in their native formats when you cancel? What's the one thing none of us will ever have more of? How much of _that_ might it cost some people to leave? That line goes deeper than money.
Plenty of free software can read Adobe file formats.

It’s the same for places like CZcams and Twitch. Theirs alternatives but moving your audience over there is nearly impossible because those platforms sunk their claws in too deep
Adobe also makes their programs really cheap for schools. Poisoning the well as only true evil does.
They also do this for companies in general. So if you do leave there's not a lot of places to go.

It goes far beyond that, think of the pipelines that are setup to have work transfer between software, hiring opportunities are cut in half if you don't know how to use adobe products or refuse to and the other resources you lose access to if you're not apart of the ecosystem

It fully encompasses the practices of Adobe, it generalizes Microsoft's "Embrace, Extend, Extinguish" strategy and Apple's "walled garden" strategy, it describes Amazon's stranglehold on online shopping, the lack of alternatives to Google products...

If you switch your adobe plan from what you have to the cheapest option available and then cancel your qualified for their 14 day grace period where your fee goes to 0. Pro tip
I was honestly shocked when I first saw the cancellation fee a year ago after my job as a graphics designer, I was flabbergasted that I had to pay an extra 100+$ to cancel my subscription?! wtf is up with that? that was some scummy shit.

Why not just... block them at the bank level? Chargeback. Blacklist. Change credit (?) cards. Whatever it takes so they just can't get that money. Then again, EU isn't nearly as f'd when it comes to customer (no, I refuse to call it "consumer") protections.

Remember, you can change your plan, and Adobe will see it as a "new" plan, therefore for 30 days after you can cancel for free. Then you can go use all the free and cheap alternatives popping up.

This is how it feels finding out all my graphic design education has been with Adobe because they're the "trusted" ones and now I have to use them or else I'll have to be fresh out of college not getting a job because I'm too busy starting from scratch learning something else (or trying to hide from my boss that I pirate software)

In reality billion dollar companies already abuse existing IP and copyright laws, and so they will benefit from lawsuits or use lobbyist to write the laws so that they benefit, not strugling artists, who can't afford long legal suits or lobbying firms to make sure they get a fair deal.
The ftc only serves to slap companies on the wrist all too often, and they are more than willing to break the rules and pay the fines as part of the cost of doing business.

Adobe seems to look like it's not only after the artist's money, but is also after their quirks as well.
Once you're done helping Adobe you should help google since they just lost a lawsuit for being a monopoly mega-giant corporation.
It always blows my mind with these things. They could have just taken the Valve route and just soaked up all the money, being at 80% of the market. But then they decided that 80% wasn't enough and went hard into making companies sign obviously illegal exclusive contracts. The world basically handed them a monopoly, and they could have kept it, as long as they didn't act to actively keep and grow that monopoly. But they realized if they did all the thing they have planned to further monetize google, that people would leave in droves, so they had to try to set up a net to prevent that.

It truly is crazy that the easiest option is just to sit around and make money, and somehow a company as greedy as them managed to make a stupider decision than free profit.

There are, and there will even more, one might even cover all their suite service. They just do not advertise themselves as much because adobe was here first and overload the publicity space.
