This was great and you had such a good point on not putting limits on something you enjoy due to having limitations in other areas. That is something I need to think about. It may be why my collection exploded a bit in the beginning. I can stop being hard on myself for that.
This resonated with me as well! I need to stop imposing limitations on this hobby that provides me so much joy and comfort.
Definitely meet yourself with some compassion! Sometimes I may put constraints on myself, but that is more from a place of challenging myself creatively and narrowing down options. And I think in the beginning of a new interest it is normal to go a wee bit overboard out of excitement too.
I’m glad you found something that resonated! Thank you so much for watching and spending time with me💜
Great video. CPP, as well, so I can truly relate. It is very encouraging to hear you speak about putting limits on yourself.
I loved hearing your answers! I agree, the community we have created is very special to me too and I'm so happy to consider you my friend!
I too am so happy to count you amongst my friends! 💜
I loved watching this! Thank you for sharing!!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching!
I like how you gave the sections your own names :) I also appreciate the props in the video. The hole in the cap was used in many vintage celluloid pens, so that when you uncapped the pen, it wouldn't pull ink out of the nib. It was like a pressure normalization thing. I had wondered the same thing for years. Excellent video.
I especially liked your answer to the last question. It’s a good way to understand how different size collections are right for different people.
Thank you!
Hi Kristi, I really enjoyed this chatty video with your answers to the #8penquestions - I hope you have a wonderful weekend lovely 😊
Thank you! You too! 💜
Love your intro so much. I love how you described the importance of doing things that keep your spirit healthy. And it’s a reminder that I’ve been meaning to get back into yoga for a long time, because I felt much more balanced with a regular yoga practice. This is my sign! 🥰
I enjoyed learning about the different phases of your fountain pen journey. It’s really sweet that you are able to enjoy this hobby with your wife as well (love that she has a few VPs 😁).
As for your ink collection… 😍 I’m also a big fan of Iroshizuku inks! Jealous that you live so close to BPC! I’m a big fan of all the samples I’ve tried. Also, I could send you a sample of Goose Poupon if you’re still looking for one. :)
Thank you!! Yoga definitely gave me a degree of my life and agency back, but it is creativity and taking time to do joyful things just for the sake of joy that really does a lot of the healing work. I hope you do make your way back to yoga or what is your yoga. If I can help, let me know!
Thank you not only for watching, but such a thoughtful comment as well!💜
Thanks for sharing your journey with us! Fountain Pens in Colorado?! I used to live in Boulder and it seems *EVERYTHING* dries up!!!
Colorado is definitely a test of a pen’s cap seal😂 Thank you for watching!
Hi Kristi! Wow! Another pen channel!!! 😂. Great video! Thank you for doing this. It’s so great to hear other people’s perspectives and experiences. Thoroughly enjoyed! Also - I’m not too far from you. We will have to organize a “fountain pen field trip” to Bertram’s - where I purchased my first fountain pen that started it all! Also, Pen Boutique in Columbia! Let me know of any FP groups in the DMV, I am all alone on this journey and would like to meet other FP enthusiasts! Thank you!
Nice to meet you! I know there is a Facebook group The DC Metro Pen Crew they are called I think. They have weekly zoom gatherings and I think monthly live get togethers around the metro. That’s the only group I’m aware of and I haven’t been active with them because I’m rarely on Facebook and we don’t have a car.
Bertram’s is doable by metro from where we are but I don’t think Pen Boutique is. But they are both on my list to visit sometime. I do get to Jenni Bick near DuPont Circle and Penny Post in old town Alexandria from time to time. But neither is a pen shop really. It would be fun to do a group outing sometime!
I have been told to avoid putting Iroshizuku ink in pens with sacs because the base (opposite to acidic) ingredients in the ink can melt sacs. I have used Iroshizuku Take-sumi in a sac for a while and haven’t melted it. I am not certain whether my Iroshizuku inks were to blame, but I have had some new sacs quickly disintegrate. Just thought I would pass this info along. I enjoyed your video! Thank you!
I had not heard that! I had only heard to stick to older ink brands and stay away from new/small ink makers in vintage pens. Thank you for sharing that but if knowledge and for watching!
Thanks for sharing. I own both goose poupon and teranishi emotional olive and they are very similar- justification? I love them 😅
Love it! Also, I’m tucking it away in the back of my mind that those two are similar! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment😁
i haven't heard anything negative about robert oster, so that surprised me. i avoid their inks because i think the bottles are really ugly 😅
That’s a totally valid reason to avoid a company as well! And I agree. Very unimaginative packaging. And other companies do simple, but they have a certain class to them.
Fika, what a pleasant and restorative practice!!! I hope you can acquire one of the SPG fika pens in your collection. 💗
I hope so too! Thank you for watching!
There is also Bertram''s Inkwell, on Rockville Pike. I used to live in the DC area, and have been buying there a long time -- these days I see Bert at various pen shows. Alt-goldgruen is a classic - I love it.
Thank you so much for watching and reminding me about Bertram’s. They are on my list to visit sometime. It is a schlep for us without a car. If I can swing the energy for it though I’d like to go when The Nib Tailor is there.
It’s right across the street from the White Flint subway station
I’m aware of a vintage repair guy who I believe is associated with Bertrams Reply with a way to get his contact info to you. I also have a couple inks from your wish list if you want to do a sample trade.
Oo, that would be fantastic! Are you on Instagram? I’m the same username on there and you can DM me. Thank you for watching and commenting!
