I have never felt more sheer terror while watching a piece of fiction than the scene where DIO pulled that knife in stopped time, I legit felt my stomach drop when I first watched it.
All jokes aside. The moments that almost made me go OH MY THIS IS INSANE is when Dio just pulls something out of nowhere.

We have seen Jotaro angry before, but not this utterly FURIOUS.
As a wise man once said, "YAROUUUUU... DIO!"
You have to feel for Kakyoin's poor parents. Their child, who's always been rather aloof and distant, changes after a trip to Egypt, demands to change schools in the middle of the year, skips school for 50 days to go with strangers on some sort of road trip, and the next thing you know, he's being shipped home from Egypt with a hole the size of a bowling ball through his chest.
They're never going to learn the truth. Even if they could believe in something like 'Stands', it's probably easier to let them believe that Kakyoin got tricked into this situation and led to his death by Jotaro and the others, than to make them realize that they never knew that their boy was so miserable for so long.
Fun fact: In the Heritage For The Future fighting game, Cooler Kakyoin (with the sunglasses) can defeat DIO in the final battle of his campaign, only for DIO to land one final blow. Kakyoin hides his injuries from Jotaro and Joseph (who survives in this version), only to die on the plane home as Jotaro tries to wake him up.

Kakyoin Family: Both parents alive, but this trip to Egypt is without their knowledge, so they're very worried about him, thinking he's run away from home
No matter who told them after, it had to be a terrible experience for both sides of that convo. Gotta even wonder how they'd explain it.
"Your son got punched by a vampire so hard that he died but he was a good kid that helped us so the Speedwagon organization will finnancial compensate you" and this is the abridged explanation.

I just LOVE the build-up to the final battle.
You had a previous villain return using the body of the frist main character, so it's a character the people already know and love and now with a shock effect. You don't show his face till the final battle with the main characters. You keep teasing what his ability is like untill you finally reveal it and it's a fricking terrifying ability. You flesh him out by making him kill some of the main characters, and one of them undercovers his ability and tells the others. And finally you face him against the protagonist, who isn't just any protagonist, but Jotaro, the badass ice-cold main character who always keeps a cool head and now he witnessed his own grandfather dying before his eyes and he's fricking pissed (also the villain tells him he killed another of his friends).
And of course the iconic Jotaro and Dio pre-fight-lines and their famous walk.
The writing to get to the final fight between Jotaro and Dio is soooo good!
what's more, every moment of cruelty dio displays (his casual murder of a cat and troolling of random civillaisn as well as his murder of his own minion AND his silly trolling with hol horse and polnareff) and his unflappable attitude in the face f his opponents drives home jsut how pwoerful and terrifying he is.

Finally! Welcome to the most legendary, the most iconic and the most meme filled fight in the whole Jojo's!
Even though I was spoiled on how the fight went on before watching this show for the first time, when I got to this part, it was so good that I was smiling like an idiot throughout the whole thing!
Jojo's is the gift that keeps on GIVING. Hell even when it is spoiled you still feel each emotion raw as if watching it BLIND. (I was spoiled on Caesar's death but when I watched it proper I STILL cried like a little bitch, I felt moved by Whamu's final moments, etc and so forth.)
Fun Fact the card hirophan in tarot is know as the messager and the same with kakyoin his stand was mostly used to scout and to send a massage the final emerald splash.

DIO *can* fly tho, Jotaro's the one who doesnt make any sense in the anime thanks to the time they spent in the air for the monologues so we have to justify it as the anime changing things for the sake of pacing since it would be hella weird for them to keep jumping up and down. But DIO's a vampire, vampires in jojo can canonically float and fly at high speeds, even go insivible mid flight (but I guess this last ability he lost together with his ice and ripper eyes, not using it even after *that* )

Heartbreaking fun fact: Kakyoin didn't tell his parents when he went on the mission to Egypt, so they think he ran away from home. His parents don't know what happened.
Kakyoin's final story and death always make me cry no matter how many times I watch this. Just the thought of being the only person in the world as far as you know who can see it the way you do until you meet a couple of amazing people who can see your stand and who become your friends, brothers even. Then to have it all ripped away so quick....and the worst part is he doesn't even get to know if his sacrifice saved them 💔 😪
What Jojo does so well is stakes. The villains can actually be so competent unlike most other battle shonen villains who lose to more plot armour
If you want to make your fights more about puzzle solving than power, you need to be able to write clever villains.

If everything that you see is despair and loss, you grow accustomed to it and you learn how to take a hit, but Araki is master of calming down his audience and making it sit comfortably to make us lower your guard before striking where it hurts. The anime shows it really, really weirdly, but dio flying is actually just his stand throwing him. For some reason the anime depicts them as actually flying.

There's an unused song focused on kakyoin named "Goodbye Nostalgia" and it never fails to make me cry. The lyrics and the song itself is so gut-wrenching, I really recommend you listen to it at least once. Goodbye Cherry lover, I'm glad you were at least able to spend your last 50 days with people who finally understood you.
The most tragic part of Kakyoin's death is that in the manga it’s stated that his parents thought he just ran away, so they probably still think he’s out there, hell they might be looking for him not even knowing what happened

A lot of fans have theorized that since Kakyoin didn't have friends as a kid, he resorted to playing video games by himself and that explains his exceptional abilities as a gamer
Since DIO's stand can stop time that means when he confronted Polnareff on the stairs he stopped time, physically rushed down the stairs, carried Polnareff, put him back right where he came from and rushed up the stairs again all in five seconds just to fuck with Polnareff and to make him think he can't go up the stairs

DIO's the world is universal, all time stoped, when they talk about its radius they're talking about how much DIO can move whole time is stopped.

- The range of the world refers to how far The World can move, punch and such from Dio, his timestop doesn't has any range limit, affecting literally everywhere

And now, you can understaqnd how stupidly petty the scene of Polnareff climbing stairs and still being at the bottom TRULY is.

So, to be clear because the anime made it look that way, but in the manga os very clear. No one is flying ever there, just the stand kicking really hard to boost them up in the air with high jumps

Especially good because he actually did let him. He could've just frozen time the moment Jotaro entered his range but he was intrigued & saw a chance to have fun & test his own stats against Jotaro's.
Alicia, if you can, look up 'Goodbye Nostalgia'. It's Kakyoin's character theme that while official was never used in the show itself. Riverdude made a very good AMV of the english lyric version.
I actually never noticed, you see Dio about to kick Kakyoin after he punched a hole through him. I always thought Kakyoin getting launched was just from the punch. That's another level of disrespect.

First off dio seems to be flying in this which I have to say: he's not he repels himself with his stand like a fucking human pinball machine. Second ant while the silver bullet sniper rifle might work in most cases of vampires in fiction (anime being no exception as seen in hellsing) DIO is not a vampire as in a demonic being like Dracula, the stone mask eliminates all of the human body and brains limitation but as a trade off they die in sunlight. Basically DIO being a vampire is more of a biological change rather than him turning into a unholy demon of the night making him pruly immune to all menthods of normal vampire killing (as seen in part 1 he crushed the I belive silver but might have been normal iron cross of the mother he fed her baby to) except sunlight and hamon.
Man, seeing them react this way to The World makes me excited to see what they make of certain future villains
One of the scariest things about Dio is that he has no sense of honor at all unless he's fighting someone he respects in some regard but if he doesn't already know you, you're probably not gonna get the chance to earn his respect because he'll just stop time & kill you before you know what's happening. He feels no need to tell you what his ability is or fight you on equal ground. He'll just snipe you with a knife if he feels like it.
So Dios stand was originally supposed to have all the previous users they fought powers as well, cause, you know, the world and all. Ariki thought that it was too OP and dialed it back to just one. Imagine fighting something with like 20+ abilities and time stop. lmao
Oh also to get a good giggle think back to Polnareff on the stairs. Dio had to run down reset the man and then run back each time to the top.
I'll warn you in advance. According to narration from the manga, the entire fight between Jotaro and DIO (i.e., from the end of this episode to the end of the fight) takes place over three minutes, not accounting for time-stop.

Fun fact: in the second opening for part three the scene of every crusader getting attacked is shown. Avdol pushing iggy and polnaref away, kakyoin's death, Joseph and the knife ect.
