Basma Al-hemairy In the song he is describing how he is always too much yet never enough. Always too much for some people to take but feels or at the time felt worthless. By the color of boom he means emotionally explosive/always blowing a good thing up/getting in the way of things/ruining good things in his life.
He suffers from an auto immune disease and depression. He has suffered from both for years and for years has had an therapist that helps him deal with all over this. Most of their songs are introspective of what is going on inside Dan's head/the changes he feels we need to make to heal ourselves. This 1 I think in my opinion at least of all over them describes him the best/most thoroughly.
You don't have to trust me, there are several places you can go and look up where the meaning of these lyrics have been described.
