So the downbeat gives a sense of start to the music and the upbeat gives a lift to the song that is trying to resolve into the downbeat

i'm a guitar player and I've heard the "Downbeats are the kick drum and the Upbeats are the snare". I was told by a teacher and read it in a guitar teaching book.
Upbeats and downbeats have an official definition, but the words are also used with multiple similar meanings. The context of the music also needs to be understood.
