  • This is a game changing idea! We trimmed our Liriope, or Monkey Grass, and had absolutely nothing to clean up! You know cleaning up the mess after cutting it is a much bigger job than actually doing the cutting. This is a great way to do the job and save a lot of time.

    Clever trick for cutting back. Thanks for sharing. I’m always tickled how different parts of the country pronounce plants differently or have different names for the same plant. Where I’m from, that plant is pronounced with four syllables: Lore-rye-a-pee.

      Hi Mary. We just did ours again last month. It really saves a tremendous amount of time having no clean-up to do. Rick

    Using small bungee cords to tie them first makes it much easier and safer to cut.

    WOW thanks I have a long 20 ft mound of these in my backyard all in a row (no spaces in between). I hate it but this is a great solution before I dig it up. Thank you!
    PS I was scared for your wife’s lil feet:)

      Hi Valerie. You're welcome. Let me know how it goes. Yeah. . . that was the closest I got to her foot. I stayed a lot farther away with all the other ones. Plus, that trimmer has big, blunt ends on the sides. I knew the cutting blades couldn't get to her anyway. Thanks for leaving me a comment. Rick

    In college, I worked for a landscape company and plant nursery. We did something similar. We used a 2' thick velcro strap to gather all the blades before cutting them. It is a 2 person job if you try to eliminate getting the cuttings on the ground.

    Great idea however Why not pull the drawstring tight and hold the bag higher so you don’t have to make a trip to the ER.

    • @rickstid-bits
      @rickstid-bits  Před rokem +3

      Hi Duke. I intended to do it that way, and I tried doing it that way. But, the bulk of the plant is in the middle and when I started to close up the bag with it held even a little higher up - the bag continued to creep upward and upward - to the point that leaf blades would be coming out of the bag. I know it doesn't necessarily look too safe. But I went very slow, always watching where her fingers and toes were. She's been with me for 44 years - and I wouldn't want her to lose a finger now. 🙂

    Since you are cutting it so low, does it grow back full??

    • @rickstid-bits
      @rickstid-bits  Před rokem +4

      Hello. Yes. We cut ours back that hard every Spring. New growth will appear very soon, and each plant will look fresh, healthy, and full soon. Cutting them back removes all the pale, yellowing leaves, and any diseased leaves. Those leaves will die soon if you don't remove them and lie on your ground. Cutting it back forces the all the plant's energy into growing new leaves.

      Hello. Here is a new video that shows just how much it has grown in just under 30 days. It will grow even faster now that warmer weather is here. Rick
