On one of Freddie’s earliest performances with the group, the microphone stand broke and he just continued on singing and moving around the stage, and decided he loved it. He could move more freely, could use it in his theatrical way, which everyone knew he loved. He did it forevermore after.

Freddie had a degree in Art and Graphic Design. Brian has a PhD in Astrophysics. Roger started studying Dentistry, but switched and ended up with a degree in Biology. John has a degree in Electronic Engineering. None of them studied music! Freddie did have some piano lessons paid for by his aunt when he was a youngster, but it didn't last long and he never reached a very high certification level.

Dear Coach and Mrs. Coach. I am so enjoying your channel and wish you much success. I’m an 81 year old Queen fan-grandma and have been, since I wore mini skirts and go-go boots in the 1970s. Been crushing on Roger since back then. Today, it’s mom jeans and comfortable shoes but still crushing on Roger and loving Queen! Change of pace? Listen to, Seaside Rendezvous. It’s a 1920s style little ditty where Freddie and Roger use only their voices during the “instrumental” break while Roger uses his fingernails on the sound board to mimic someone tap dancing. Very different, quite charming and quirky. Worth a listen. Another unexpected genre among many more waiting for you to discover. Blessings!

I'm so so happy you reacted to this! Sadly not everyone appreciates the talent Roger brought to the band but I'm so glad you do. The entire concert is incredible but this performance is one of the highlights - Roger has an amazing solo later on in the concert too ;)
Can't wait to see you react to more Queen songs and live performances, there is so much more to hear and see for you :)
If you wanna hear more of Roger's voice I highly recommend "In the Lap of the Gods" live at the Rainbow from 1974 or "'39" studio version. Roger does an amazing falsetto in the early Queen songs (he lost it later on his career but could still sing incredibly high)❤And if you wanna see more of his drum skills you MUST see "Now I'm here" live at Wembley 1986 - there is also a "Roger cam" czcams.com/video/XMNNLItedY0/video.html
Side note: Don't sleep on Deaky's talent ;) He is the quiet one of the group but has such a calm and kind personality and is also a brilliant musician❤
Much love from a huge Queen fan (and especially Roger Taylor fan :D) ❤

The story of the half-stand mic begins before there was Queen. While still in college, Freddie was in a rock blues band called Wreckage. While performing a gig, Freddie's mic got stuck on the stand. No matter how hard he pulled, he couldn't dislodge it until finally, he pulled so hard that the mic stand itself separated in two with the mic still attached to the top half of the stand. (FYI Freddie was really strong. He had boxed while at school.)
These were poor college students and they didn't have the funds for a backup mic and stand, so Freddie had to continue the performance with the mic with the half-stand still attached. It turned out that he liked it. It gave him something to play with while performing and he performed with it for the rest of his career. It became one of his trademarks.
Roger began drumming at around the age of 12, teaching himself by playing along with his favorite records. He became a member of the Reaction, a semi-professional rock band, at the age of 15. Roger had originally learned guitar, but became a drummer when he realized he had a more natural aptitude for it. During his youth, Taylor developed a passion for multi-instrumentalism, playing the ukulele and guitar before turning to drums.

Hey there Mr. & Mrs. C... thanks for another great reaction... yes, we too LOVE our Roger in any and all of his talents... story has it he locked himself in a cabinet and refused to come out until the entire band agreed to let this song be the B-Side to "Bohemian Rhapsody"... when push came to shove, he got his wish and became an instant millionaire when BoRhap became the instant hit that it did... Also, I neglected to mention a couple other songs of Roger's, "Tenement Funster" and "Fight From the Inside", both hard-hitting bangers and quite entertaining... but of course you MUST listen to Roger's falsettos in "In the Lap of the Gods"... so angelic and amazing... also, "My Fairy King" and "Ogre Battle" are two that accentuate his phenomenal voice range... blessings.

Another great reaction from this lovely couple! Keep them coming! I love your curiosity and interest in the history of the group! All these guys started at early age. Rogers Meddows Taylor started his first group at age of 7. He first played the guitar and ukelele but around age of 15 he moved to London to study dentistry and picked up the drums. Self-taught. As to Freddie all he ever wanted was to sing. His mom used to bring him to kids parties when he was a toddler, and he would ask her can I sing? Can I sing? Since he was 3 years old all he wanted to do was to sing. His mom quickly learned that he can get a free ice cream or other party treats as rewards for entertaining the guests so she let him do it. The rest is history. BTW don’t worry about us sticking around for your Live Aid long reaction. We can watch that concert 100 times. It is the best concert in history of music, so it is time well spent.

I do love your reactions - specifically that you don't exclusively react to Freddie, but appreciate the unique contributions by the other members of the band.
Roger started out as a guitarist, but taught himself to tune and play the drums when he realised he had a talent for them. He has always sung. He grew up near Truro in Cornwall, and as a boy, attended Truro school, and was a chorister in the choir at Truro cathedral, before starting his first band in 1962....
Perhaps you'd like to react to a more recent song of his... 'Journey's End' (2017) The official video is 6 mins 58 secs long, and includes a dance sequence inside the cathedral, featuring his wife. I can't tell you how many times I've watched/listened to it...
And contrary to popular belief, Queen isn't the only band I'm passionate about. Before I found Queen, I was all about the Moody Blues - and I still have most of their albums (although now on CD). You might like to try 'Nights in White Satin', initially released in 1967 (the first single I ever bought , or maybe the second, I can't remember which came first, this or Procul Harum's 'Whiter Shade of Pale), but the best video is live at the Royal Albert Hall in 2000...

My understanding is that the Montreal concert was on two days, one of which was November 24, 1981, exactly 10 years before his death on Nov. 24, 1991. A film of the concert was being made and the band members were asked to wear the same outfits on both nights so the production people could choose the best version of each song and piece them together for the final project. The producers were so obnoxious (the audience noise issue included) that Freddie wore his white shorts one night as a protest.

I love this performance of this medley, it is so much fun. Killer Queen has always been a cheeky favorite of mine and I'm In Love With My Car is just the best. Nobody but Queen could have a song with that name and pull it off but here we are. Roger gets his moment to shine. He said this is a very hard song for him because the drumming is not easy and he is of course having to solo on it. Thank you for your reactions. You are right on the audience being told to stay still and in their seats. Freddie's comments are Freddie speak for "Back off, Security! this is our show and our choices." Once when Queen was performing early on, Freddie's mic came off of its stand. Being a pro Freddie just kept on singing with the detached mic. He decided he liked the freedom it afforded him and he also liked it as a prop. When cordless mics became a thing, Freddie continued to use the stand and even said he really didn't like not having the cord which had also become sort of a prop for him and something to do with his hands. Roger's first instrument was a ukulele, his second a guitar so he plays both of those as well. but once he took a seat behind a drum kit, he knew that would be his instrument of choice. He played all or almost all of the instruments on his most recent solo album (Insider) since he recorded it during lockdown. I think his son, Rufus (an incredible drummer in his own right) may have played drums on a couple of songs, his wife sang backup vocals and also was the photographer for the album art. It is a really good album. Make sure you pick the Live Aid show that starts off with the comedic cops because the other one cuts off short at the end which is a total buzz-kill. So watch the very beginning of the video before you choose the copy to react to. If you see the band running onto the stage at the beginning, that is the wrong video.

All four had solo careers running alongside Queen, Roger was the first one releasing a solo album, John didn't do much in front in his solo career more in the background, he was a very reluctant shy person and Freddie looked after him, which is why the camera will rarely pick John up, he didn't join the other three until 1971 after they tried out a few other bassist, and Fred joined Sir Brian and Roger who had set up a group at university called Smile, and the lead singer was also a friend of Fred

Love this medley .. First of all, Killer Queen is on point. Second, Roger is on full display with vocals & drumming!! Btw, the Queenies are excellent at Queen trivia!! Anyway, Roger wrote the song inspired by his roadie who was in love with fast cars! 🏎💨 It really could apply to Roger too, after all “cars don’t talk back” 😆. Check out FOREIGN SAND ft. Love your reactions to Queen. I am of an age where I was lucky enough to see them with Freddie twice in the 70's - A Night at the Opera and A Day at the Races tours - along with seeing them with Adam Lambert several times. All shows spectacular and though Freddie is unmatched, Adam is probably the only one to be able to come close to Freddie and have become a fan of his as well. As a Queenie, I highly recommend you viewing A Kind of Magic live at Wembley. Such an iconic Queen concert with this song being a classic performance by the band.

I love your guys’ Queen reactions! They’re definitely one of the best live bands and my favorite of all time. Another band you should check out is a rock band Greta Van Fleet. It’s a band where the singer and guitarist are twins, and their younger brother is on bass/keys, and a family friend on drums. They’re amazing live, and as a 21 year old it’s awesome to have an old soul band that’s so young where I can see them live. If you have the time, you should check out Greta Van Fleet’s “Age of Man” at the Red Rocks live! Another Queen recommendation I can give you is Play the Game live in Montreal, and a good one where Roger and Freddie duet is Action this Day live in Milton Keynes 1982.

Roger played from a very young age. They all did. They seem self taught as far as I’ve read. Freddie did have piano lessons, he probably got his knuckles rapped given his unconventional style. Lol

Please react to Queen '39 - Live at the Hammersmith Odeon. Brian wrote it about a space traveller who goes to the edge of the cosmos and doesn't come back for 100 years because time behaves differently up there. Roger gets off his drum kit in this performance and it's quite a catchy tune, even though it's about a heavy subject.

I have to tell you this. I have been watching you for weeks now. I was 15 in 1972 and ran around with other teens who were crazy about rock and roll. I bought Queen's first album and never looked back. It took them 3 albums before they caught on big time in the states.Anyway I saw them every time they were in the States except for their first time when they did one show in the US, Brian got sick and they went back to the UK.I saw them the first time at the Akron Civic Theater, a 3000 seat venue. I'm not sure where to put my comments so I hope here is ok. I just saw These Are The Days Of Our Lives and it was sung by Roger Taylor and Brian May of Queen. Roger is the main singer here and he does an excellent job of singing. There is also the more popular version sung by Freddie Mercury accompanied by his 3 band mates. I would like to make a request that you listen to both. I know your list is long so I will be patient. You two are the greatest!

mic story - early, early days, Freddie (who always loved to move all over the stage), pulled on a stationary mic to 'move it', but instead it broke. Finding he could now move freely around the stage to entertain, he decided to keep the 'broken mic' as a prop. It became one of his trademarks. A gimmic? sort of, yes. But it worked so well for him as he then played with the mic as a bat, a sword, a bow & arrow, a golf club, a male appendage - whatever he chose to use it for.

Just a few more words about knowing Queen. They have released live albums and videos which at least here were available in the libraries. Also when I begun listening to Queen we used to trade albums between friends and sometimes we copied them on compact cassettes. And of course also the videos could be copied.
