岐阜県大野郡白川村の荻町地区は合掌造りの集落で知られています。
独特の景観をなす集落が評価され、1995年には五箇山と共に「白川郷・五箇山の合掌造り集落」として、ユネスコの世界文化遺産に登録されました。
日本の原風景である農村文化・生活・暮らしを深く感じることができる「日本の故郷」のような場所です。

In 1995, Shirakawa-go and Gokayama were registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site along with Gokayama as the "Gassho-style Villages of Shirakawa-go and Gokayama."
