I was very fortunate to collect his entire run when it was in comic form and am waiting for my omnibus copy to arrive. Tomasi understood the character and wrote him damn near perfectly. He gave us a great variety of the rogues gallery as well as introducing new characters that felt they had been there the whole time. Mahnke and Walkers artwork is stellar. they were meant to draw this run for Tomasi. I'll never forget what my LCS was like when his run was going on. If you did not have Detective Comics on your pull list, chances are you weren't getting it and even then I can remember people waiting on reorders due to not being enough copies for everyone. With it being on a Bi-Weekly schedule you were never having to wait too long for your issue. Even then all of us regulars even on the off weeks where it wasn't in our bins would still hang around and talk about the previous weeks issue waiting for the next issue. Even the employees at my LCS were big on his run including all the diehard Marvel guys. What's sad though was at this time most of us were very disappointed with Tom King's run on the Batman book and most of us sadly took Batman off of our pull lists until King was removed. King's Batman just didn't seem like the character or stories we were used to. Tomasi's Batman felt like Batman, and his stories treated him as such. The characters felt the way they were supposed to be written and each arc felt like it fit in the mythos as well as adding to it. Both myself and all the LCS regulars were very saddened when it was announced Tomasi was stepping away from Detective Comics but we all knew all good things come to a close. We were blessed to have several amazing years with him at the helm and the writers since have done good jobs. But I will admit, I do hope one day Tomasi decides to dip back into Detective Comics and give us another amazing run like he did here. You would be crazy to not add this book to your collection.
I love tomasi and also read this because i was so impressed by the art, but man...its very rushed and almost feels amateurish, id recommend reading vol 1-2 and if you like those, buy this because it stays consistent, but I didn't enjoy it much because everything happens so fast with no build up or satisfying conclusion id say for 80% of the arcs in this.
I'm waiting on this and Batman animated adventures to arrive, I was going to pass on the Green Lantern Corps Omnibus but decided to order it as well. I basically have all the Batman omnibus but I'm more excited for the animated adventures, I guess because I loved the show so much. The batman teenage mutant ninja turtles omnibus was phenomenal, the art work is so amazing.

Be interested to hear what people think of this. I pre-ordered blind, then cancelled but looking at the art I think I may go back in again.
