    I started SoB last year. I so far I have picked up Swamps of Death, Derelict Ship, Blasted Wastes, Frontier Town, a lot of card supplements, and half of a Warlord Pledge (I bough a full one but sold all of the Norse stuff and kept the Valley of the Serpent Kings material). I also picked up the alternative sculpts for the characters from City of the Ancients. I felt that this was a good approach to managing the collection and getting more interesting enemies that what was found in the original core sets. I am currently building out the enemy variety for the mines, Jargono, Derelict Ship, and Blasted Wastes settings- mainly through the Deluxe Packs and a couple of missions. I like the deluxe packs because they often add a new wrinkle - including magic wielding characters.. Happily I am not a completionist, but it can still be hard to keep control. I still have the Trederran Strike Force in shrink and the tank unbuilt as I am deciding whether or not to invest into Trederra. And yeah, I did back the campaign last year. 2023 was a pricey year. :-)

      Sounds like you have a lovely collection on all the things there!
      I think the strike team have been the most competent team I’ve ran yet.
      What teams have you played with?

      @@DieRollin I have mainly played with different groupings of Old West characters. And I agree that they don't necessarily have a lot of strong synergies. But I finished painting (I only took this up last year as well) all of my SoB stuff recently but will start with a group of Conquistadors this weekend.

      @@davidhebart-coleman8610 I’m really excited to try out the conquistadors (also, Jargono was my first Otherworld so excited to see this new area in action) but I’ve got allllll the serpent kings to paint up.

      @@DieRollin What I like about them (at least from what take from the rules) is that they have two new decision spaces- one being the use of ambition but the second being the use of dueling tokens.

    I love the fact that Grimlock is kicking ass!
    I'm enjoying all of it! Keep it up.
    More map packs is a must. And a cheap alternative to a big expansion.

    Missed this video when it dropped somehow. Having grown up in Arizona, I skipped right over the Western sets because... Well... Overexposure I suppose. Went direct to FoFo and the Derelict Ship, then backed the Egyptian campaign because of my love of Indiana Jones and The Mummy. It's so easy to get overwhelmed with this game, but I love the modularity and variety.

    cool video buddy. I feel your pain on the miniature painting. After i finished all the zombies from zombicide 2nd edition i had to take a break. It just got repetitive but i have really enjoyed painting Darkest Dungeon The Board Game. I'm glad i am almost done. I'm down to the last few bosses and then the hairloom chest set. I might take a short 2 week break and the start He-Man Masters of The Universe board game. I really enjoy painting but if there are too many of the same figure. it can become of a drag.
    keep up the good work on the video's buddy.

    • @DieRollin
      @DieRollin  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Darkest Dungeon was quite nice to paint in comparison to a big Zombicide box as there's only a couple of sculpts for each and they're lovely minis (shame about the company behind it but there we go)
      Do you post your pics anywhere?
      Thanks, I'll keep making the videos if people are enjoying hearing me waffle on! :D

    I think a lot of the problem with the typical Old West heroes is that they were designed first, and the folks at Flying Frogs kept their designs very simple. They often only have their starting ability choice and one other trait, which is usually something generic (like roll two dice for movement and choose which one to use). Forbidden Fortress, the Adventures heroes, and the Trederran Strike Team have the benefit of coming later, and getting more involved designs.
    It's tough to fill much of a role in a group when you don't have many abilities to define your character or it's role, period. Some of the later characters in the Old West line seem to go a ways to rectifying this. The Gambler, Frontier Doc, Cowboy, Prospector, and Orphan all seem to be much more defined and bring more to the table, the Drifter too (though I'm not sure I'd recommend him for much beyond solo play since his "Danger Magnet" skill tends to provide problems for the whole group, and unless everyone wants to endure that, it's best not be "that guy"... as cool as the Drifter is). The Dark Stone Shaman, which I haven't been able to pick up (though is FINALLY supposed to be hitting retail next month) also seems to be more interesting.
    This all has me pretty optimistic about what's coming with the Hell Train heroes sometime in the far, far... FAR distant future. (Like, probably really, really far.)

    • @DieRollin
      @DieRollin  Před 5 měsíci

      Good call on the older stuff role wise, this is why my guys tend to die pretty quickly (or at least that's my excuse!)
      The Dark Stone Shaman will be fun to see in action, I'm planning on doing some more wild west shadows videos so will be picking up the other classes to try them out.
      Hell Train is very intriguing!

      @@DieRollin Hopefully they build in a little more team work aspects for the Heroes in both Lost Tombs and Hell Train sets. I think I would like them to be different, but one of the 4 columns for each character could be devoted to more team work actions.

    We’ve been painting a ton of Sob. Over 150 minis finished and maybe a 100 to go. I don’t really like assembling and painting minis. I’m a sculptor of glass and a clay sculptor/painter. Minis are too small for me to enjoy painting. I only love it when I’m finished and they’re on the table.

    Do you own Suburbia Expansions? How do you combine them with core game? I just played it for the first time and thought will use only SA and Night Life tiles (for the whole game) and it was nightmare as those tiles' abilities excluded each other. The rulebook has some suggestions but wasn't sure how to mix them.
    Can't wait to play Heat exp. and see you guys race!

      Our Heat Heavy Rain Japan video goes live at 5 tonight! I did nerf the AI though, but corrected that for future playthroughs.

      With any Wargaming, the game is as good as the people you’re playing against. I have personally had a lot more negative experiences with the game than positive, however when I’ve played the positive games it’s been really enjoyable.
      Hopefully you have a great time with it, they’re lovely minis and a fun game

    I still haven't got around to painting the terrain for Dungeon Saga origins, although the figures are all done. I have finished painting Mythic Battles Ragnarok core box today and got a quick skirmish game in. And I have played 3 or 4 games of World of Tanks miniatures game and have painted up a few new tanks for that. I will be starting to paint Forbidden Fortress tomorrow, having never played Shadows of Brimstone. This appealed to me more than the other boxes as I have a long standing interest in Japanese art and aesthetics, having practiced Chinese and Japanese martial arts from the early 70s, up until about 10 years ago. And my first kitbashed army, also in the 70s, was based around samurai warriors. Looking forward to playing it, which will be soon as I paint quite quickly.
