Seventy-five years ago, as the sun was rising over the small pacific island of Oahu, Japan unleashed an unprecedented attack on the Unites States. That day, Dec. 7, 1941, would come to be known as a day of infamy, and forever make Pearl Harbor synonymous with World War II. Explore what happened to the USS Oklahoma, the only battleship to capsize during the Pearl Harbor attack. Examine new details about what may have caused the ship to overturn and hear stories from Oklahoma survivors and families of those lost.

My dad and his brother were both on the USS Oklahoma on December 7th, 1941. I taught U S History for 20 years and I always had a special presentation on Pear Harbor Day. It's tough to get a bunch of 8th graders interested in history but on that day I held their attention pretty well. There would always be the question of "did your dad survive?" That would always make me chuckle and I would reply "well if he hadn't survived I wouldn't be here today." I also remember that there was cop in our town that was a shipmate of his. Every once in a while he would pull into our driveway and my dad would come out and sit in the police car with him to chat. I thought wow how cool is this? There is my dad, sitting in a police car, just talking to an old friend.

Thanks for this awesome video. I live in Brazil and I like naval history. When I was a teenager, in school, many friends and me were interested in history, especially military history, of all countries. I've been to the United States and sadly observed the same phenomenon: few people know reasonably well about the attack on Pearl Harbor, for example. What happened to the generations? I'm 65 years old and still have two scale models of the USS Arizona, one of the USS Nevada, and several of the planes present at Pearl Harbor. My frients, have the same. What happened ?

0:16 They're using that same clip of the Dauntless bombers but LOOK! They've added meatballs to the wings. I can't believe in some Japanese archive, there's better B-roll of Japanese bombers. Lift a finger, somebody.
