I reached out to the studio about straight up doing anything to get the game. But no response. I think they just wanted to focus on the single player games which sucks because this would've made MILLIONS.
We wanted the bare minimum and just ordered a hamburger plain with no cheese. They took our order and went into the kitchen. We waited at our tables while our stomachs growled, some of us at the table thought maybe they forgot about our orders, but some reassured the table it’s all going to be fine. Then the waitress finally came back out and said “ We understand you’ve been waiting, but understand it’s been difficult for us dressing that hamburger with all those toppings .. and yes it’s taken over 5 hours to cook it, but we’ve decided to remove the hamburger from our menu and we would like to thank everyone in the kitchen that’s made such a superb feast that’s delicious! Unfortunately you’ll never taste it, but don’t you fret we have plenty of things to eat, at a later date. Wait until you see our new menu! They’ve starved us and don’t even seem to care…

The game developers confirmed Factions 2 was in a playable state when this was cancelled. They would even hold office LAN parties and play it together to celebrate thier work so far. What on Earth was ND thinking canceling a project that was so near completion?

They already had the crabby patty formula, all they had to do was make it again with a new crew. To hell with whatever future projects they have coming, I already cut my TLOU2 physical copy in half. Yo Poop Sad times. I was laying in bed last night and I was so fricken sad bro. I was thinking so many of the same thoughts you shared here. One of my earliest memories of playing videogames is playing fricken Crash Bandicoot at my cousins house. We only saw them once a year at Christmas and I didn't have a console. So it was literally my only experience of video games for years. But it was so good and it stuck with me. I never had a ps3 - that was during my decade or so when I discovered raves and girls. My mate had an xbox 360 but we mostly just got super high. Then when I came back to Europe in 2014 to see my dad (I hadn't seen him for 11 years) after a bad break up and he got me a ps4 and it came with the last of us. It was a bad time in my life just as you said. My dad was dying and I didn't know that but it was the last 18 months of his life. Factions was a big part of getting me me through that whole crazy time. I didn'T play many games, enjoyed fewer. Uncharted 4 was amazing. I loved the story of tlou and I even enjoyed tlou 2. But I never replayed those stories. I even found tlou 2 hard to complete because I just wanted to play factions. That's all I wanted to do. And I tried other multiplayers. In my experience they are either way too fast and intense (COD) or made for children (Fortnite). Nothing else ever came anywhere near the problem solving, strategy, teamwork, and skill required in the super simple but perfect gameplay that Factions delivered. Now. I agree with everything you said: they should simply scale back what they have to something that will run well and release it. They released Part 1 remastered for PS% for 70 bucks without the multiplayer. I'm pretty sure Factions heads would pay that to play Factions. And if they said: "Look we need to justify this monetarily, the devs deserved to be paid, and not just for what they've done, also for future updates and support, so we need to charge this much, and if enough of you buy into what we're trying to do, then we can develop some more DLC for it." - We would say STFU and take all my money. What I want to know, and why I have no faith is: WHY? Why do they NEVER acknowledge Factions fans? Why do they deny their ability to create engaging multiplayer games? Why does Neil Druckman hate multiplayer SO much? Do you think it's an ego thing? Like because he didn't have a hand in a story it's meaningless to him? Like if it's "just fun" what's the point? Like if it doesn't have "Directed by Neil Druckman" on it then it's not worth pursuing or pushing or him or ND giving it time? Because if it is that then that really sucks. Because TBH mate, I'm waiting for tlou 3 to come out and Nakey Jakey will make one of those "(insert game developer) is outdated" videos about it, especially if it is just a opening drawers simulator. I loved tlou part 1 and 2, don't get me wrong, tlou 2 was a great game and the additional aspects of the gameplay were enjoyable. But realistically there was a lot in there that wasn't FUN - which is the main point of video games right? To have fun? That'S what was so good about factions. Is when you got sick of opening drawers and filing cabinets and safes (because everyone has a safe with the combination written on a white board two rooms over even though the rest of the place is ransacked) - you could pause, save, and go HAVE FUN playing factions. All the best most exciting fun parts of the gameplay - condensed - and playing with real people. Instead of experiencing a story (which was quite divisive in part 2) - YOU ARE the story - YOU -. and your mates. It's a story of survival 4v4: "did you see what he just did?" "Did you see that bomb/headshot/shiv/down?" "Did you see that rag doll omg" And these stories that you create meant more - Sorry Neil - they actually meant more - because they happened to US. Poop it's been real. We're all going through the grief of this right now. Thanks for always being yourself and thank you for sharing your story in a more personal way here because it made me think of mine and there must be sooooo many others like it. You're a legend bro. It might seem silly but these games can find its way to have so much more meaning in our lives and represent more than just the gameplay itself. It’s crazy to me how a game like this which is clearly wanted can’t happen but we can continue to cherish time for now with the original mode. Controversially, I am actually relieved we finally have some closure. Of course I’m sad about having no hope for Factions 2, but I am concerned now by the future of Factions we already have.

@@Sharkhandyman They felt it was necessary to bring the first game's visuals up to par with part 2, to bolster the tv series/game synergy. I personally don't like the tv series at all, but I'm glad they did the remake. Also, the ps4 "remaster" is just a resolution and framerate bump. It's just a ps4 port. Nowhere near a remake. It's arguably not even an actual remaster. That was low risk, low effort and high reward. It made perfect sense.
You are awesome! It’s lovely to see someone that has the same exact feeling as I about the factions. I’ve never had a disappointment that big about a game like Naughty Dog is putting us through. But I think we should keep fighting for it. Eventually they will understand that we just want a “simple” thing. Just few maps, and few elements of tlou 2 we will be playing this for long years. I’m angry and hurt, but the passion that I have for this game makes me willing to keep fighting for it, at least until Tlou 3 comes out. I know it sounds dumb but if we keep asking for factions for TLOU 3, then maybe they'll listen. TLOU 3 isnt coming out soon, maybe theyll reconsider doing something a bit less ambicious. As the fanbase has been saying, we're not asking for much.

you've made me realize something. the small tlou2 remaster has the chance for them to potentially understand the capabilities of tlou factions. Think about it, tlou campaign/main team will have to create a rogue-like mode for tlou2, and it may open their eyes to what factions could be (up to this point, they are looking at it as numbers. this may SHOW them what it could do, and means the main team will get a better understanding of what people are talking about), and the main reason this could be possible is because they don't have a big company breathing down their neck. maybe they will realise that they could release the multiplayer game with a price tag and leave it at that (maybe some updates) just like a single player game, and that the thing holding them back is the big companies over their shoulders. sorry to give you hollow hope, as you are probably feeling like me right now, lied to, and don't want to read this. just keep this in the back of your mind as a possibility, but understand that we shouldn't rely on it
I think your point on them not releasing a scaled back version with the Part II remaster is so true. Aside from rumors, we had no official announcement or date. They could have at least held off on that release and done a heavily scaled back version of the multiplayer, something similar to Factions (which is what we all asked for and wanted to begin with) but they didn't even want to be bothered doing that. That part to me says they really do not care about the multiplayer community and want to sweep it under the rug as if it's some sort of embarrassment, which it's not. So much wasted potential.
My PS+ sub is now cancelled. I only continued with it for the last two years in anticipation on a Sony First Party online game. That game was the factions game I’ve been holding out for since my purchase of TLOUP2 at release.

@@larzulrich1522 while I disagree on part two. The likely reason no factions in part one remake was because factions at that point was still likely to release. Would have mad no sense to split a play base. After cancelling Factions though you would hope it finds itself attached to Part 3. Or even an update to part two on PS5 in tandem with the PC release which is likely going to tie to season 2 of the tv show.
Halfway through the video, just leaving a thought as of right now: I fear the day that Factions servers shut down for good. But, in the past, people have preserved online servers by capturing the packets sent to and from the server, figuring out how they work together, and making their own custom servers. I hope a Factions head out there has the knowledge to do something like this, making a custom matchmaking server that we can use after the official ones leave us.
Part of me wonders if they were originally going to include the announcement of “No Return” in the Factions 2 cancellation announcement, but decided not to since they probably were going to know if some of us would catch on to the “draining out of saddening news” by posting the announcement of the No Return mode in that article.
been playing naughty dog’s games and multiplayer experiences for years now. started out playing factions on the original ps3 version. waited patiently patiently *patiently* with immense hype. and they managed to let us down again. best way i can put it, they truly have left us to die now.
Sony to blame yeah. The devs tried their hardest but its crazy that leadership/higher up only recently (last year) only saw this outcome.. Its so devastating all around.. there are no winners.. Gonna enjoy factions while we can, that is if the servers will be around for some time still. Hopefully they will. They gotta… its all we got left atm.

btw, what i did get from all info and concept arts of TLOU Online, that it could be more open world game than TLOU Part 2, more place to go, etc. . . real based locations, great graphics, great animations, scripts from TLOU Part II, and maybe, not entirely a battle royale, but more like DayZ game, with extraction mechanics, taking for granted as old factions is in story, basically extration shooter, but in gameplay PvP team death match. even if the game was just simple extraction shooter, somthing like get a friend, go to danger semi-open world, visit some locations, get valuable stuff, for your fraction (or something) and go to nearest extraction point, or go the whole way to the survivor's den, or fireflies city, would be enough. of course, i would love to play an open-world - open locations map game, and be able to go to the fraction den/city, walk in the locations, go to bounty board, or task boards, collect assignement, and go out to the wildness, extract necessery items, stuff like that, or collect bounties on some players etc, but as i said, less complicated extraction shooter with story part, would be enough.
there really is endless potential with this concept you could have everything and all the above. I wish they just started smaller with the potential to build
and now: why open-world with extraction shooter mechanics game would be enough. . . 1. we have so many survival based post-apo games, DayZ, Left4Dead, we can count even more but we need something new. 2. we have The Day Before which is scam project just like R.A.W game was, we have Once Human, but it's not entirely survival post apo game it's sci-fi mixed with zombie apocalypse, and looking at both gasmes, the cool, post-apo theme is literally lost, for TDB cuz the locations are empty, you don't feel danger in wild, in empty streets, cuz the game is like 5 - 10% what was shown in concepts, and second cuz Once Human is sci-fi shit which destroys immersion for post-apo game with zombies, when TLOU has perfect world, where ya clearly feel this danger world of post-apo while adventuring, more. . . dead walkers, and prowlers are connected to reality, connected to your feeling of perception, cuz what they do, it's like they have personality, even if they are walking deads, their screams when ya kill them give ya the idea, that they have soul, they are still in some part humans. Not just bullet absorbing sponges.
imo, if they just started smaller, like give a huge one location to explore, give some assignments to do, and have chat and voice chat system, looting system, and party system to play with friend, it would be great for the starting point of possible future content, to show.@@DrPooplove

Thank you Pooplove! Truly, thank you for all your efforts during our wait for the now cancelled part 2 of our favourite pvp-game! Your words in this video speak volumes and couldn't describe better what the factions-community is feeling right now! Your point on the fact that naughtydogs/sonys-leadership ambitions are too high is revealing the truth of the cancellation I think. Naughtydog was always great in creating pvp-ecperiences but there was always just a small part of people who fully appreciated their onlinegames. Its like you said, especially with factions: for me their is no game were the gameplay/combat is more fun as in thelastofus. But i can't be bothered in repeatedly playing the storymode. So factions was the perfect solution - and with the ps3-release they just gave us that for free with the storymode. And of course it had flaws, but clearly the strengths prevailed. Thats why so many of us still play that game after 10years. So why couldn't they just give us a crappy little online-mode included in the part2 or even part1 remaster. I truly hope they give us a "Nostalgia-factions-mode" with part3. But yeah,nah that probably won't happen - because naughtydog is now the untouchable Perfection-gamedevelopment team. As you say, everything they do now has to be this incredible succes and untouchable masterpiece. Its so sad.... At some point for me, waiting this long for a game to release eventually just leads me to not care about when it comes out, as long as it's ready when it does. That said, to just cancel the thing altogether is just incredible when you consider the sunk costs they've put in. There's no 'at leasts' here, this just absolutely sucks this won't come out.

I've been saying for awhile now, that this live service thing wasn't making sense, because we know ND doesn't like to support their multiplayer games for more than a year and a half, or so. It's just not like them. Anyway, now i'm wondering how much longer they'll keep the factions servers up. Can't say i'm surprised it was canceled, because of the news from a few months ago about it being put on ice, but it still stings.

a freaking normal factions 1 with better graphics maybe some infected on new maps and some more gamemodes but same concept as factions one woud be enough
it's honestly pretty fucking infuriating that they strung the multiplayer audience around only to shut this down to "be able to continue making single player games" and still haven't brought up any future plans for some multiplayer news for us factions fans. The least they could have done was tell us that there would be a factions multiplayer in tlou3 or update the factions on the tlou remastered to remove wall shooting, and out of bounds access. Us Factions fans put on the clown makeup for this company and factions 2 time and time again to still get shoved under the rug as fast as possible
this was much more than a game to some , got me through the hardest moments in my life and it’s just gone just like that in a blink of any eye. i’ll always cherish factions mp and still continue to play until the servers eventually shut down as for everyone else keep your heads up and just enjoy what we have.
This makes me so sad. I couldn’t really get into the original because of how old it is, but was absolutely thrilled to play a game I thought would be “tlou 2 multiplayer”. I'll give it a watch if you put out videos that aren't Naughtydog or Factions related. Of course I'm down for more Factions or Uncharted stuff too. But you should do and play what your gut tells you. As someone who never played Factions and loved The Last of Us single player, I am still immensely devastated at this news. I was so excited to finally play an online game set in my favourite game universe. I feel so bad for the Factions players and wish this wasn’t happening.
Kinda crazy to me that they claim they would have to support factions 2 for years to come…yet the original factions had like one major update as far as I know and 10 years later there’s still a sizable player base. They needed maybe a year of post launch content at most. Such a shame
Hope they really think about, I hope that they rethink that desicion that they made, it really seemed like it was the most ambitious game they would have ever made but then, from all of the sudden is cancelled, and as you and the other factions youtubers say about this, is true, there has to be something behind that is related to money, and to leadership. When i heard this i honestly didn't know how to feel, because yes i was really hyped but I think that was the most heartbreaking thing... I hope when the last of us 3 comes out if it will, we'll have a factions with it, no matter how it is, how bad which i don't think it will be, I think we faction community would appreciate it anyways. I hope that druckman sees all of this and I hope from part of sony that at least they considerate factions community. There is going to be hope, until the last moment even if things get really bad there will be hope for me but one thing is that there will be no hype. I hope that you all will have too.
I was actually so gutted when this news was announced i’m glad i found a channel that isn’t meat riding naughty dog like everyone else and just a accepting that this was a “good choice” this was a blatant throwing in the towel before even really trying.
Once the servers for Factions are shut down forever is when i stop paying for PS plus. Factions is the only game i play online and once they are down i will have no need for PS plus. Sony and NG are making a mistake.
Since factions 2 got canceled, I realize I have no interest in gaming news anymore. That’s all I was looking forward to😢. Especially in regard to multiplayer games
At 7:12 they said when it's ready, so i believe they're still working on it ,but we have to wait a little bit longer just not on part 2 , but maybe part 1 remake. That's just my speculation from my point of view.
I'm pretty sure I've played you before. Either with or against. It is sad that factions 2 is cancelled but if they do go for a 3rd installment of the series, I'm pretty sure they will add a factions of some kind.
We really got played like a damn fiddle. I didn't go hardcore on Factions, but I was a big player of Uncharted multiplayer. UC3 was my favorite and I miss those days immensely. I knew something was up when they only cared about "remaking" games that didn't even need it. UC4 with all of its flaws was a fun time, and the support for that game got dropped way too soon. A lot of the old heads for NDs MP teams left a while ago and I can see why. I had this glimmer of hope that they'd bring the magic back, but here we are. I am not expecting anything for a Factions 3 or whatever at this point. Naughty Dog basically spit in the face of their MP fans and led everyone on. GaaS has been mostly a curse and it shows. What a damn shame man.

I was utterly disappointed. I held out a lot of hope for this game. I feel exactly the same way you do. Naughty dog are so concerned with ‘being the best’ that if it’s not 100% polished, perfect and better than everything else, that they’ve lost sight of just making fun games. We don’t need it to be the best, we needed it to be good and fun. They strung us along for a year and I personally have also lost faith in the company a bit due to these empty promises. It took me a long time to watch this video, because I didn’t wanna deal with the topic. But I’m glad you made it, just bitterly disappointed by this decision after ensuring us it us all was well. Have you tried playing red dead online call to arms mode? That’s quite fun, surviving waves of enemies. But right now I’m into building towns in Lego Fortnite lol. There’s not much else for me out there right now. Loum was it for me, I was waiting very patiently for it, but now I’ll just become a Lego farmer and hang up my shotgun back up above the mantle. 🤧
I haven’t tried red dead online much. I am going to give No return a shot for now which probably won’t last that long and Helldivers 2 which hopefully will. But we will see. It’s been rough :(
Even though it’s canceled we still could see this game be released at some point in the further. So many amazing games had issues during development. I’m hoping the devs at naughty dog push for The Last of Us Online. I have a feeling we will see it at some point in the far future but looks like we’ll be playing Factions for another decade…
The only reference I can think of in game is at the end of the 12 weeks you start again and you have a comparison between you and other players. The other is the rankings however this includes all players who have played and not just current.
There is a dedicated group that keep playing despite only 8 maps, no season passes, no upgrades besides initial purchase you could make and still played for YEARS they missed out on just rolling out a map here or two a season pass.... something anything
Me too I was planning on buying it too keep occupied until factions. But how naughty dog has treated the factions community, I’ve been doubting on getting it. But regardless what ever content you put out I’ll be here enjoying it.
Sony should give us online multiplayer back for free again like on PS3 and PC. Then Naughty Dog should release The Last of Us 3+new Factions if they have the opportunity.

I’m so pissed off with Sony, Bungie, ND! I think ND just can’t be bothered living up to Bungie and Sony’s requirements of a ‘better’ MP game so they just decided it’s not worth the headache. But I still hold out a little bit of hope for it’s revival at some point down the road. So much time and money have been invested into Factions 2 it’s really difficult for me to believe that they just tossed it in the trash completely. I wonder if this is ND’s tactic for us fans to apply pressure towards Sony to support its release in its current form?
All they had to do was keep the 4v4 concept, give us new guns, executions and maps, and let us customize our own characters. They could’ve literally added it as a mode in part 2 remastered
i don't understand, how they dare to say that this game is great, or Bungie saying that this game needs more microtransactions etc, and cancel it, but never show any footage, nor even release any playtest, tiny time-restricted demo, version to see if players will love it.
It's so annoying that they didn't just make Factions 2! We didn't want an open world story game that's bigger than anything they'd ever made, we wanted 4v4 with iconic locations from Part 2 with all of the new gameplay updates that Part 2 brought. What we were asking for was not that much, the fact that they've chosen to not provide it is so disappointing. First they kill Joel and now they kill Factions.

I reached out to the studio about straight up doing anything to get the game. But no response. I think they just wanted to focus on the single player games which sucks because this would've made MILLIONS.

We wanted the bare minimum and just ordered a hamburger plain with no cheese. They took our order and went into the kitchen. This is pretty damn crushing. its the "only" pvp game I've genuinely been excited for in a very long time. They already had the crabby patty formula, all they had to do was make it again with a new crew. To hell with whatever future projects they have coming, I already cut my TLOU2 physical copy in half. I was laying in bed last night and I was so fricken sad bro. I was thinking so many of the same thoughts you shared here. One of my earliest memories of playing videogames is playing fricken Crash Bandicoot at my cousins house. We only saw them once a year at Christmas and I didn't have a console. So it was literally my only experience of video games for years. But it was so good and it stuck with me.
I never had a ps3 - that was during my decade or so when I discovered raves and girls. My mate had an xbox 360 but we mostly just got super high. Then when I came back to Europe in 2014 to see my dad (I hadn't seen him for 11 years) after a bad break up and he got me a ps4 and it came with the last of us. It was a bad time in my life just as you said. My dad was dying and I didn't know that but it was the last 18 months of his life. Factions was a big part of getting me me through that whole crazy time.
I didn'T play many games, enjoyed fewer. Uncharted 4 was amazing. I loved the story of tlou and I even enjoyed tlou 2. But I never replayed those stories. I even found tlou 2 hard to complete because I just wanted to play factions. That's all I wanted to do.
And I tried other multiplayers. In my experience they are either way too fast and intense (COD) or made for children (Fortnite). Nothing else ever came anywhere near the problem solving, strategy, teamwork, and skill required in the super simple but perfect gameplay that Factions delivered.
Now.
I agree with everything you said: they should simply scale back what they have to something that will run well and release it. They released Part 1 remastered for PS% for 70 bucks without the multiplayer. I'm pretty sure Factions heads would pay that to play Factions. And if they said: "Look we need to justify this monetarily, the devs deserved to be paid, and not just for what they've done, also for future updates and support, so we need to charge this much, and if enough of you buy into what we're trying to do, then we can develop some more DLC for it." - We would say STFU and take all my money.
What I want to know, and why I have no faith is: WHY? Why do they NEVER acknowledge Factions fans? Why do they deny their ability to create engaging multiplayer games? Why does Neil Druckman hate multiplayer SO much?
Do you think it's an ego thing? Like because he didn't have a hand in a story it's meaningless to him? Like if it's "just fun" what's the point? Like if it doesn't have "Directed by Neil Druckman" on it then it's not worth pursuing or pushing or him or ND giving it time?

Because TBH mate, I'm waiting for tlou 3 to come out and Nakey Jakey will make one of those "(insert game developer) is outdated" videos about it, especially if it is just a opening drawers simulator. I loved tlou part 1 and 2, don't get me wrong, tlou 2 was a great game and the additional aspects of the gameplay were enjoyable. But realistically there was a lot in there that wasn't FUN - which is the main point of video games right? To have fun?
That'S what was so good about factions. Is when you got sick of opening drawers and filing cabinets and safes (because everyone has a safe with the combination written on a white board two rooms over even though the rest of the place is ransacked) - you could pause, save, and go HAVE FUN playing factions. All the best most exciting fun parts of the gameplay - condensed - and playing with real people. Instead of experiencing a story (which was quite divisive in part 2) - YOU ARE the story - YOU -. and your mates. It's a story of survival 4v4: "did you see what he just did?" "Did you see that bomb/headshot/shiv/down?" "Did you see that rag doll omg" And these stories that you create meant more - Sorry Neil - they actually meant more - because they happened to US.

@@Sharkhandyman They felt it was necessary to bring the first game's visuals up to par with part 2, to bolster the tv series/game synergy. I personally don't like the tv series at all, but I'm glad they did the remake. Also, the ps4 "remaster" is just a resolution and framerate bump. It's just a ps4 port. Nowhere near a remake. It's arguably not even an actual remaster. That was low risk, low effort and high reward. It made perfect sense.
They put resources on that and prioritized that ahead of factions. Shows you how important their multiplayer audience was

I’ve never had a disappointment that big about a game like Naughty Dog is putting us through. But I think we should keep fighting for it. Eventually they will understand that we just want a “simple” thing. Just few maps, and few elements of tlou 2 we will be playing this for long years.
I’m angry and hurt, but the passion that I have for this game makes me willing to keep fighting for it, at least until Tlou 3 comes out.

you've made me realize something. the small tlou2 remaster has the chance for them to potentially understand the capabilities of tlou factions. Think about it, tlou campaign/main team will have to create a rogue-like mode for tlou2, and it may open their eyes to what factions could be (up to this point, they are looking at it as numbers. this may SHOW them what it could do, and means the main team will get a better understanding of what people are talking about), and the main reason this could be possible is because they don't have a big company breathing down their neck. maybe they will realise that they could release the multiplayer game with a price tag and leave it at that (maybe some updates) just like a single player game, and that the thing holding them back is the big companies over their shoulders.

I think your point on them not releasing a scaled back version with the Part II remaster is so true. Aside from rumors, we had no official announcement or date. They could have at least held off on that release and done a heavily scaled back version of the multiplayer, something similar to Factions (which is what we all asked for and wanted to begin with) but they didn't even want to be bothered doing that. That part to me says they really do not care about the multiplayer community and want to sweep it under the rug as if it's some sort of embarrassment, which it's not. So much wasted potential.

My PS+ sub is now cancelled. I only continued with it for the last two years in anticipation on a Sony First Party online game. That game was the factions game I’ve been holding out for since my purchase of TLOUP2 at release.

@@larzulrich1522 while I disagree on part two. The likely reason no factions in part one remake was because factions at that point was still likely to release. Would have mad no sense to split a play base. After cancelling Factions though you would hope it finds itself attached to Part 3. Or even an update to part two on PS5 in tandem with the PC release which is likely going to tie to season 2 of the tv show.

Halfway through the video, just leaving a thought as of right now: I fear the day that Factions servers shut down for good. But, in the past, people have preserved online servers by capturing the packets sent to and from the server, figuring out how they work together, and making their own custom servers. I hope a Factions head out there has the knowledge to do something like this, making a custom matchmaking server that we can use after the official ones leave us.

btw, what i did get from all info and concept arts of TLOU Online, that it could be more open world game than TLOU Part 2, more place to go, etc. . . real based locations, great graphics, great animations, scripts from TLOU Part II, and maybe, not entirely a battle royale, but more like DayZ game, with extraction mechanics,
taking for granted as old factions is in story, basically extration shooter, but in gameplay PvP team death match.
even if the game was just simple extraction shooter, somthing like get a friend, go to danger semi-open world, visit some locations, get valuable stuff, for your fraction (or something) and go to nearest extraction point, or go the whole way to the survivor's den, or fireflies city, would be enough.
of course, i would love to play an open-world - open locations map game, and be able to go to the fraction den/city, walk in the locations, go to bounty board, or task boards, collect assignement, and go out to the wildness, extract necessery items, stuff like that, or collect bounties on some players etc, but as i said, less complicated extraction shooter with story part, would be enough.
there really is endless potential with this concept you could have everything and all the above. I wish they just started smaller with the potential to build
and now: why open-world with extraction shooter mechanics game would be enough. . .
1. we have so many survival based post-apo games, DayZ, Left4Dead, we can count even more but we need something new.
2. we have The Day Before which is scam project just like R.A.W game was, we have Once Human, but it's not entirely survival post apo game it's sci-fi mixed with zombie apocalypse, and looking at both gasmes, the cool, post-apo theme is literally lost, for TDB cuz the locations are empty, you don't feel danger in wild, in empty streets, cuz the game is like 5 - 10% what was shown in concepts,
and second cuz Once Human is sci-fi shit which destroys immersion for post-apo game with zombies, when TLOU has perfect world, where ya clearly feel this danger world of post-apo while adventuring, more. . . dead walkers, and prowlers are connected to reality, connected to your feeling of perception, cuz what they do, it's like they have personality, even if they are walking deads, their screams when ya kill them give ya the idea, that they have soul, they are still in some part humans. Not just bullet absorbing sponges.
imo, if they just started smaller, like give a huge one location to explore, give some assignments to do, and have chat and voice chat system, looting system, and party system to play with friend, it would be great for the starting point of possible future content, to show.@@DrPooplove

Your point on the fact that naughtydogs/sonys-leadership ambitions are too high is revealing the truth of the cancellation I think.
Naughtydog was always great in creating pvp-ecperiences but there was always just a small part of people who fully appreciated their onlinegames. Its like you said, especially with factions: for me their is no game were the gameplay/combat is more fun as in thelastofus. But i can't be bothered in repeatedly playing the storymode. So factions was the perfect solution - and with the ps3-release they just gave us that for free with the storymode. And of course it had flaws, but clearly the strengths prevailed. Thats why so many of us still play that game after 10years.
So why couldn't they just give us a crappy little online-mode included in the part2 or even part1 remaster. I truly hope they give us a "Nostalgia-factions-mode" with part3. But yeah,nah that probably won't happen - because naughtydog is now the untouchable Perfection-gamedevelopment team. As you say, everything they do now has to be this incredible succes and untouchable masterpiece.

I've been saying for awhile now, that this live service thing wasn't making sense, because we know ND doesn't like to support their multiplayer games for more than a year and a half, or so. It's just not like them. Anyway, now i'm wondering how much longer they'll keep the factions servers up. Can't say i'm surprised it was canceled, because of the news from a few months ago about it being put on ice, but it still stings.

it's honestly pretty fucking infuriating that they strung the multiplayer audience around only to shut this down to "be able to continue making single player games" and still haven't brought up any future plans for some multiplayer news for us factions fans. I just started playing the last of a bit before the end of last year but have been a fan for longer, hella sad to hear factions 2 isn’t coming 😔
What is hope is that ND and the new Leadership of Sony will renegotiate about Factions 2 and drop the live service…
I really hope they hear your voice and hear all the fans on this I feel like they are already letting a lot of people down and that this is one of the biggest blows in gaming histories on not releasing something they’ve promised💔

As someone who never played Factions and loved The Last of Us single player, I am still immensely devastated at this news. I was so excited to finally play an online game set in my favourite game universe. I feel so bad for the Factions players and wish this wasn’t happening.
Kinda crazy to me that they claim they would have to support factions 2 for years to come…yet the original factions had like one major update as far as I know and 10 years later there’s still a sizable player base. They needed maybe a year of post launch content at most. Such a shame
Hope they really think about, I hope that they rethink that desicion that they made, it really seemed like it was the most ambitious game they would have ever made but then, from all of the sudden is cancelled, and as you and the other factions youtubers say about this, is true, there has to be something behind that is related to money, and to leadership. When i heard this i honestly didn't know how to feel, because yes i was really hyped but I think that was the most heartbreaking thing... I hope when the last of us 3 comes out if it will, we'll have a factions with it, no matter how it is, how bad which i don't think it will be, I think we faction community would appreciate it anyways. I hope that druckman sees all of this and I hope from part of sony that at least they considerate factions community. There is going to be hope, until the last moment even if things get really bad there will be hope for me but one thing is that there will be no hype. I hope that you all will have too.
I was actually so gutted when this news was announced i’m glad i found a channel that isn’t meat riding naughty dog like everyone else and just a accepting that this was a “good choice” this was a blatant throwing in the towel before even really trying.
Once the servers for Factions are shut down forever is when i stop paying for PS plus. Factions is the only game i play online and once they are down i will have no need for PS plus.
Sony and NG are making a mistake.
Since factions 2 got canceled, I realize I have no interest in gaming news anymore. That’s all I was looking forward to😢. Especially in regard to multiplayer games
They kinda did say the multiplayer stand alone game is dead. They (more then likely not) might just tac it on to last of us 2 like the no return mode.

At 7:12 they said when it's ready, so i believe they're still working on it ,but we have to wait a little bit longer just not on part 2 , but maybe part 1 remake. That's just my speculation from my point of view.
I'm pretty sure I've played you before. Either with or against. It is sad that factions 2 is cancelled but if they do go for a 3rd installment of the series, I'm pretty sure they will add a factions of some kind.
We really got played like a damn fiddle. I didn't go hardcore on Factions, but I was a big player of Uncharted multiplayer. UC3 was my favorite and I miss those days immensely.
I knew something was up when they only cared about "remaking" games that didn't even need it. UC4 with all of its flaws was a fun time, and the support for that game got dropped way too soon.
A lot of the old heads for NDs MP teams left a while ago and I can see why. I had this glimmer of hope that they'd bring the magic back, but here we are.
I am not expecting anything for a Factions 3 or whatever at this point. Naughty Dog basically spit in the face of their MP fans and led everyone on. GaaS has been mostly a curse and it shows. What a damn shame man.

What a great follow up video to this tragic news for our factions community. Our collective hearts are broken. Disbelief and anger fill our hearts and minds. We share your thoughts and opinions in this video. Why? Why such two difinive paths to choose from by Neil? Surely they can find a way? Surely they csn jyst give up Factions v2. Thats all we've ever really wanted.
But if we as a community can do anythinv about this. Salvage a glimmer of hope that ND could change their minds, then we as a community need to strike NOW! Not later.
Our collective voices need to be heard LOUDLY so that Sony and ND realize the points you have made and we all share about this.

I was utterly disappointed. I held out a lot of hope for this game. I feel exactly the same way you do. Naughty dog are so concerned with ‘being the best’ that if it’s not 100% polished, perfect and better than everything else, that they’ve lost sight of just making fun games. We don’t need it to be the best, we needed it to be good and fun. They strung us along for a year and I personally have also lost faith in the company a bit due to these empty promises. It took me a long time to watch this video, because I didn’t wanna deal with the topic. But I’m glad you made it, just bitterly disappointed by this decision after ensuring us it us all was well.
Have you tried playing red dead online call to arms mode? That’s quite fun, surviving waves of enemies. But right now I’m into building towns in Lego Fortnite lol. There’s not much else for me out there right now. Loum was it for me, I was waiting very patiently for it, but now I’ll just become a Lego farmer and hang up my shotgun back up above the mantle. 🤧
I haven’t tried red dead online much. I am going to give No return a shot for now which probably won’t last that long and Helldivers 2 which hopefully will. But we will see. It’s been rough :(
Even though it’s canceled we still could see this game be released at some point in the further. So many amazing games had issues during development. I’m hoping the devs at naughty dog push for The Last of Us Online. I have a feeling we will see it at some point in the far future but looks like we’ll be playing Factions for another decade…

The only reference I can think of in game is at the end of the 12 weeks you start again and you have a comparison between you and other players. The other is the rankings however this includes all players who have played and not just current.
There is a dedicated group that keep playing despite only 8 maps, no season passes, no upgrades besides initial purchase you could make and still played for YEARS they missed out on just rolling out a map here or two a season pass.... something anything

Me too I was planning on buying it too keep occupied until factions. But how naughty dog has treated the factions community, I’ve been doubting on getting it. But regardless what ever content you put out I’ll be here enjoying it.
Sony should give us online multiplayer back for free again like on PS3 and PC. Then Naughty Dog should release The Last of Us 3+new Factions if they have the opportunity.
Man, all i wanted was a simple upgraded mode of the first factions. Here’s to hoping we get something like that down the line with another installment of TLoU.

I’m so pissed off with Sony, Bungie, ND! I think ND just can’t be bothered living up to Bungie and Sony’s requirements of a ‘better’ MP game so they just decided it’s not worth the headache. But I still hold out a little bit of hope for it’s revival at some point down the road. So much time and money have been invested into Factions 2 it’s really difficult for me to believe that they just tossed it in the trash completely. I wonder if this is ND’s tactic for us fans to apply pressure towards Sony to support its release in its current form?
All they had to do was keep the 4v4 concept, give us new guns, executions and maps, and let us customize our own characters. They could’ve literally added it as a mode in part 2 remastered

i don't understand, how they dare to say that this game is great, or Bungie saying that this game needs more microtransactions etc, and cancel it, but never show any footage, nor even release any playtest, tiny time-restricted demo, version to see if players will love it.

It's so annoying that they didn't just make Factions 2! We didn't want an open world story game that's bigger than anything they'd ever made, we wanted 4v4 with iconic locations from Part 2 with all of the new gameplay updates that Part 2 brought. What we were asking for was not that much, the fact that they've chosen to not provide it is so disappointing. First they kill Joel and now they kill Factions.
