- Fate: Undiscovered Realms is another ARPG from the wonderful world of Fate, the quirky ARPG that has no idea what's going on with anything. As before, it's an explosion of strange items, repetitive gameplay loops, and still remains a charming and fun experience. Only this time there's three dungeons instead of one, so it's roughly three times better than the first game.

Why was this game installed on all our grandmother's computers. That's how I found out about Fate as well
You have to understand that higher difficulty in Fate doesn't actually make the game harder, it instead makes it so that the jump in monster's levels is higher on each succeeding floor. I know this because I tried playing on it on my fresh character and it was painful to say the least. I had to resort to returning a few floors higher and then farming the levels I passed with respawned monsters to keep progressing, so word of advice, play on normal difficulty, the game was meant to be played that way. I think the legendary difficulty is for new game+.

Fate 2's gear is truly one of the finest parts of it.
It's also very easy to create you own custom items for the game, so you could - in theory - add every single Diablo 2 Unique to the drops of Fate 2.

FATE was awesome when it came out. Very mod-able. At one point we had a mod that put WOW enemies into the game (not kidding!) including sounds/animations. The second FATE was just as mod-able as the first. Sadly the Wild Tangent forum (and mod scene) died along with both games. I think I spent more time modding these games than playing them... With the mods I used the game looked very little like the original. We changed it ALL! Good times...

Interestingly enough, Travis Baldree was just at Exilecon with David Brevik and the Schaffer brothers. And yes, he still has awesome hair.
Travis Baldree only did the original Fate. He hooked up with the ex-Diablo refugees shortly afterwards, did some coding on Hellgate: London, and then started working on Mythos, Flagship died, so him and a few others from there went on to form Runic and they made Torchlight.

Funny thing is I beat this game three times without even knowing that fishing was a thing until you talked about it, and I've been playing since like idk 2008. I am also convinced that the developers across the years who put this bizarre but also very mundane feature in their games are trying psychologically trick me to like fishing, like, a lot. Not like 'hey it's not that bad', but more like 'oh my gosh this the best thing since everything'

I am a huge Fate enjoyer, and let me tell you, Fate absolutely LOVES its magic system. I play Traitor Soul and Cursed King, but take Traitor Soul for example. Summons rely on the charm magic skill Stat for their power level. Each time you put a rank into the charm magic skill, it buffs the summon more. Summons can also be buffed by your spells, which rely on defense magic skills.
In Traitor Soul, you have 6 slots for Summons. If you grab the Ghost Valkyrie summon, those slots basically double, as the Valkyries summon their own minion skeletons. The Valkyries are capable of melee, magic, and buffing themselves FURTHER as well as accepting your shared buffs. Basically, get yourself a couple items that boost defense and charm magic, a simple weapon, and summon 6 of those big boys, and you'll basically never have to attack again, just heal your valkyries (if that.) Really then, you just need to grab items that give you more % of gold and magical items, and rake in the cash and new gear. You can of course still attack things on your own, and would need to to level, but you also dont.. have to level to gain fame, when there's a bard in the square who will raise your fame for a price, and now your problem of needing a certain title to use certain gear is solved.
Fates system is busted. But it's a very "turn off your brain and just enjoy the serotonin of running around infinitely generating dungeons collecting gold" game and I love it for that.
except when they nerfed it to 4 in CK for some reson
A side note about the retiring & heirloom, generally speaking passing down a piece of gear is strange because of how the requirement system works; basically speaking the higher the buffs and the more buffs an item has the higher the stat and renown requirement is for it, and every time you pass down an item its current modifiers get boosted and gains a few more and yes it stacks if you keep selecting the same item. While a weapon or armor are still easily usable the first couple generations, after a few generations the item becomes so good you can't equip it till near the end of the game, entirely undermining the concept. If it wasn't for jewelry, which never has such requirements meaning you can start the game with a bunch of buffs across the board, and yes the list of modifiers can indeed run off the screen after a few dozen generations.
Also your pet can wear jewelry, which is essential if you want them to have any impact. Though if you can become self sustaining without returning to town, you can load up your pet with the junk you don't want and send them off to town where they'll sell it for you.

Hmm... i remmeber doing maps but skipping bosses... Rare mobs had better drop quantity and quality than Bosses and were ezier to kill =P
@@MsTatakai map bosses are way easier to kill than rare mobs, some rare mobs can get truly insane mods on them that make em tanky as hell

damn i got the cheese at fate 1 and didn't pay attention to that 75% more rare item chances , i wanted to make a build to farm rare items while fishing quite fast.
-Here's an obscure one for you that you might have a lot of fun with. This is a different kind of top-down ARPG. Try Exanima.
--physics-based combat, ARPG with a map that makes Grim Dawn's look like a 6 lane highway. Really good graphics, and once you start to get the hang of the combat, it's actually pretty fun.
-They just put out a new update, enhancing the AI, a new magic system, a new level, and some kind of procedural generation (I think for the items). I haven't played the new stuff yet.
--There's an arena (with it's own progression system) so you can practice the combat (and you'll need to) on flat, open ground.
-In the dungeon, encounters are intense as you jockey for position, especially when you get ambushed by three enemies (more than one at a time can be a real challenge). The leveling system is pretty interesting too.
--It's probably not going to win the greatest ARPG ever, but it's unique, obscure, relatively short, combat has a high skill ceiling, it's from a tiny developer, and would make for good content as you curse at the screen because your character tripped on a board and the zombie lady with the mallet bashed in your junk.

The number of fucking people I see choose the easiest or hardest difficulty and then complain that a game is badly balanced because it's too easy or hard is fucking staggering
I have seen 9 video essays about various games where half the time people have complained about a game being too easy WHILST PLAYING ON THE EASY DIFFICULTY

So apparently FUR is actually bugged, the highest difficulty is WAY harder that it's supposed to be to the point it's almost completely impossible to finish. Found that out the hard way.
Fate IV is decent but imo Traitor Soul is where it is at. You get new races to play as and they all have pretty dope mechanics to make them unique, even humans get a bit of paint.

Sometimes skipping a thing is the way man... oof. If you like parts of this game but hate others give Din's Curse or Din's Legacy a try Seer.
When my (now 5 year old) was 2 or 3, he always wanted to sit on my lap while I gamed, and I would play Diablo 2, then I remembered fate and he would sit there and point out the "bad waters" and rats. He now plays on his own, and we're using it for him to practice reading and doing math

I lied. Traitor soul isn't much different. I found my disc copy. It's pretty much the same game as undiscovered realms. The fourth game however. That ones a bit different
When I played this game I got bored fast and ended up going to the game files and adding tons of new monsters, items and spell. I made a skeleton army spell where skeletons would keep summoning more skeletons and well, they covered the screen and killed everything lol
Traitor soul is basically Undiscovered Realms again with extra, optional bells and whistles. Cursed King will likely kill you, though. CK has 6 required dungeons before its final boss. I tried to go through all 4 Fate games with the same character, but I couldn't make it through CK's repetition.

I think this is proof that Torchlight is basically a mash-up of Diablo and Fate. Fateablo, if you will.
There's no "fate 2" only three standalone " expansions " wich are basically the same game repainted with a new coat of paint after the original dev left wildtangent to develop Torchlight.

Dungeon Siege was hypnotic addictive and beautiful,I then tried Dungeon Siege 2 and never could find my way out of town,maybe it was a glitch but I didn't have the internet available to ask back then for advice.

Fate 3 is largely the same (It adds some late game armors and races which give different starting stats and skills). I still recommend the cursed king, because you get allies which is fun as you run 4 characters together each with its own spell list, with group spells that apply the effect to your allies and summons (which your allies can also learn) So you can run around with the premium juice and never be the one casting the spells.
