Settings, scroll all the way down, disable skins (if enabled, the skins will be shown as the icons instead to reduce lag)

either the song doesn't have mid animations or you chose the wrong song for it "the background can also be wrong thus it won't work"
Mechanics : just check if a yellow warning sign is on a level's title "if it isn't in any song enable mechanics"
