    The bike sounds great! what windshield are you using? Is it the OEM short one? I just bought a tall tinted one that was supposed to be OEM but it’s a different brand and yours looks great

    • @ThatGermanFella
      @ThatGermanFella  Před 2 lety

      It is the OEM short one in the tinted European version. AF1racing has them. I looked at a lot of options and it was the best fit for what I was looking for concerning form, function, and matching the color of my bike. Mine came with the tall touring OEM one and I could never make it work for me.

    Sounds great! Does the rear lock up easy if you downshift without rev matching? Big single dry clutch and shaft drive. Always wondered!

      I have not noticed it at all. The gearbox seemed to fully brake in after about 1500 miles and is shifting butter-smooth these days.

    Hi, the fuel trimmer you talk about in this video is the Mistral V Twin boost for the E5, correct? Or is there a separate fuel trimmer available for Mistral big bore header pipes and y-pipe? Reason I ask is, I also like to drive with low RPM and hate the unstable engine behavior that comes with it. However I wold like to keep the stock exhaust.

    • @ThatGermanFella
      @ThatGermanFella  Před rokem

      The V-Boost for the E5 models from Mistral is not just specific for the Mistral exhaust setup according to what AF1 Racing has listed. It should work just fine even with a stock exhaust. It basically enriches the fuel flow in the lower and mid-rpm range that is restricted by the factory to achieve the Euro 5 emissions resulting in a more smooth engine behavior. Hope this helps.

    It sounds awesome. I have the full Arrow exhaust on mine, the only exhaust that I could get my hands on fast enough.
    Suggestion. Get the Ermax 500mm windshield $110. Faaaaar superior to the OEM. Also, may I suggest...don't lag the engine and practice some rev matching. Better for the engine and smoother riding. Cheers.

      @ThatGermanFella  Před 2 lety

      if you have an E5, you will need the complete system as MG decided to make the headers and cat one piece. If you have a 2020 or earlier, you are ok with just a Y pipe. And yes, it made a big difference.

    @John-ev3cz Před rokem +1

    Hello thanks for all the good videos; I just purchased a 2022 V85TT Centenario and I will probably make the changes to the Mistral system; curiosity what are those black crash plates covering the exhaust pipe why didn’t you install the OEM ones? Does the bike run cooler down especially in hot weather? I saw there was a choice on the Mistral headers to be with or without catalytic converter I wonder if they both would perform the same; I’ve read that if it’s a high flow cat it’s not as restrictive? Thanks John

    • @ThatGermanFella
      @ThatGermanFella  Před rokem

      Hello John, the stock bash plate is rather "flimsy" so I upgraded it, and these new exhaust covers came with it to match it. I have the system with no CAT in it and like you mentioned, it is much more free-flowing and the bike runs cooler. I did add the Mistral O2 "trickery" sensor to help with the fueling at low rpm's which made quite a positive difference. From what I understand Mistral now makes the systems with built-in CAT's but still achieves the same benefits of free-flowing and running cooler overall.

    • @John-ev3cz
      @John-ev3cz Před rokem

      Hello again; WingsGeo; I will be doing some of the modifications you’ve done and appreciate all your replies and possibly will get the Mistral Y-pipe with the catalytic in hopes that it is more free-flowing than stock exhaust: the ECU may run better with a bit of back pressure like it was originally designed to operate with; yet not as restrictive with the Mistral Y- pipe with cat and still have the benefits of richer/cooler operation; I’m still trying to decide whether the V-twin booster or the Upmap Zard version; that I’ve heard gives good results even better than the V-twin booster plug. Another thing I’m considering is the SAS block off. One of your recent post said you were having a bit of difficulty with your V 85 starting and running. Did it have anything to do with the exhaust change? Take care, John.

  • @StockySnail

    How much louder is it? I don't want to piss off people from 5 blocks away if I can avoid it. ;) I've been considering this modification but haven't taken the plunge because of the fuel trim module and the ideal solution being to remap the ECU instead as I'd rather not lower the life expectancy of my bike if it may do that. Perhaps it would be fine and I should just blow even more money on my V85. ;) A little more power and less weight would be nice, especially if I ever try tracking the V85 since I don't have another bike. I need to do a video of all the parts I've slapped on mine. Post another video after the fuel trim is install with your thoughts. I've also been considering getting a Ninja 400 for more of a track bike but don't have $5k in my pocket at the moment.

    • @ThatGermanFella
      @ThatGermanFella  Před 2 lety +4

      Noise wise not even close, you are safe there, it is just a healthy V-twin sound. My fuel trim module is in the mail and I will report back once I get it installed. It is basically just O2 trickery for the low and mid-range. A remap would always be better but I have not seen anyone reputable come up with one official. And you are so right, every time I think I am done with the V85, there is just one more thing ... =), funny how that happens. Ninja 400 is a fantastic track bike, I sold mine only because I want the RS 660 Stars and stripes really bad ...

    Hello german friend. Bringt doch nichts außer Lärm und Ärger mit den Nachbarn. Ohne Prüfstandprotokolle vorher/nachher ist diese Vorstellung wertlos. Die Abgasanlage der V85 ist schon sehr gut auf den Motor abgestimmt und um das zu optimieren braucht es schon mehr als nur eine aus dem Zubehör zu montieren. Hast du wenigstens den Innendurchmesser der "Big Bore" Krümmer mit den Originalen verglichen? Würde ich empfehlen, denn dann kommt Ernüchterung auf. Der ist nämlich geringer, als bei den Serienkrümmern. Aber im Land der unbegrenzten Möglichkeiten spielt das ja keine Rolle. Hauptsache Laut...

      Hallo zurueck ... =) , das system ist leider nichts fuer Europa als Ihr leider wie Du schon gesagt hast bei euch in Europa gibt es ganz andere regeln. Wo ich lebe in Texas, habich ich das nicht. Keine abgas kontrolle, nur einmal im jahr ein test der beleuchtung, blinker und reifen profil. Das system ist nur geringfuegig lauter als original. Die vorteile fuer mich waren das die maschine jetzt nicht mehr so heiss laueft (no cat) und das sie jetzt viel besser reagiert in den unteren drehzahlen mit ein wenig mehr torque. Sie hoert sich auch anders an, aber das ist persoenlicher geschmack. Last but not least, die gewicht einsparung war auch noch ein faktor. Die V85 ist einfach zu schwer im original fuer mich persoenlich, und der unterschied zwischen original und aftermarket ist ziemlich gross. Ich weiss das ihr in deutschland viel besseres benzin habt vergleichsweise zu was bei uns angeboten wird. Es ist gut moeglich das ihr die probleme die wir hier haben garnicht habt ...

    I hate to criticise but I notice that you do not blip the throttle to rev match when you change down to a lower gear. Seriously man, what is going on with that? It sounds really lame and far more importantly, especially on a shaft drive bike, it can be very dangerous as the rear wheel can lock up and chuck you off. I am guessing that you are a fairly new rider and it is shameful that new riders are not taught to match revs as it is the cornerstone of good motorcycling. One reason why so many novices get away with it is today due to slipper clutches but before the everyone had to blip. You can hear an experienced rider a mile away by the evocative sound of good rev matching. Those who don't just sound like novices on their first ride out.
