- This is just my personal method for taming hamsters which has worked for me, I hope you can find some of these tips useful for taming your new hamster 😊 Some hamsters are more timid than others, so some may take longer than others to become tame, but just be patient and keep trying 💪

Every hamster has its own character and personality. I got a hamster a few years ago and no matter how much I tried, it never liked me or anyone. It never liked anyone touching it and was always stressed out although it had a fine cage and everything was great. Two days ago, I got a new hamster and he seems tamed from the beginning but just a little shy. Today, I took him out to play and he was comfortable grooming and playing. He even fell asleep in the middle of the room. Each hamster is different than the other. Always when you want to get one, try from the beginning at the pet store holding and touching it. That's what I do and it actually turns out right. From the beginning they show you if they will like being around you or not. Some might be a little shy but will still allow you to handle them.
Yea I got lucky, when I was a kid my first hamster was super laid back and chill, he liked being held and never bit me (looking back his cage was a bit too small, that's probably why he liked getting out lol, but I always had him out with me or running around my room or in his ball, sometimes in the yard on nice days 😄 so at least he was not neglected! )

I got my hamster, donut about two years ago he was the best little thing I could ever wish for I loved him so much ive had him for a verry long time and he is getting quite old and I think he mught be sick but he keeps going. The Flying Dude wear gardening gloves! They are thick and bite proof. Once they stop and are comfortable, start showing your real hands.
My dwarf recently died and she was such a precious hamster... I barely needed any of those steps she just let me handle her and ran up to the cage and greeted me after work.. now i got a gold hamster and they seem to need all of the steps so thank you for this video ❤️🐹

I had one as a teenager...she was very trimmed at first but the more I handled her the more she wanted to be held. She would actually fall asleep in.my shirt and follow me around the house in her little crawl ball. Best pet ever. I miss her!! I remember coming home from school and she would wake up and jump up on her cage walls and could not wait for me to pick her up. 🥰🤗

If you'd like to try that again try facing the back of your hand to the hamster, or make a fist and let them sniff that but don't let them get near the tips of your fingers if they're not tame yet as they are wayyyy more likely to bite it

@@SunflowerOnce-cw3os also make sure your hand doesn't smell like any kind of food (wash with unscented soap first or wash with just water) if the hamster is really really agressive it won't do though... try to get it used to getting into a cup then pick the cup up n give it treats

I got my hamster for free from another person, and I didn’t even have to tame her she loves to explore around my room and outside ( with my supervision) and she comes right to me when I call her, the people before me have just been having her for 6 months! This video still helped a lot though ❤️

This is just one option. It isn't going to be a one size fits all. There are other methods that can be tried. Just try different ones and hopefully you will find one that works. It is possible that the hamster is just not going to budge. I am still working with mine. He is very terrified. It's all about patience. It is difficult for me to be patient because he's soooooo cute. I'm anxious to hold him and pet him.

I don't have hamsters but I have Guinea pigs but I once had a hamster like yours and I realize now through watching your videos how much of a bad caretaker I was but I am happy to say I've learned and became more responsible and I'm now a proud owner to 4 Guinea pigs

My boyfriend surprised me with a hamster three days ago and I named him Coquito🥥 (Little Coconut in English) and he’s so beautiful. I think he’s a Robo Dwarf by looking at his coat. Update: She’s great! Her name is Potato and she’s spoiled . She’s super energetic and needs loads of space which is why we have bought her 3 cages already each getting bigger every time. I’m able to hold her and she goes up my sleeve 😂. One problem is she chews a lot , rip my curtain and washing basket .

Hey! I just wanted to comment and say thank you *so much* for posting this. I got my hamster, Peppermint, about 2 months ago and every single night i've been working with him, following these steps. He was *extremely* timid and frightened when i first brought him home and even after letting him settle with no contact for a week, he would jump out of his skin at the first sign of his tank opening. Now, two months and a lot of hard work and trust building later, for the first time, i was able to lift him up out of his tank without him jumping out of my hand and being scared! So, thanks again for posting this, it's been super helpful and I'm super proud of peppermint
When i got my hamster (before this video was even out), i didn't know that i had to do these steps. But i feel happy about the fact that he,in a couple of months, started grooming and even sleeping in my lap. Unfortunately, he died the beginning of 2020. a truly unfortunate year.

I’m having the hardest time with my hamster , he does not like me at all, will occasionally grab treats and come in top of my hand but will retreat. It’s been almost 2 months and he still does not want any contact

Valerie Perez try rubbing tissue paper on your skin and putting it in their cage, so they can get used to your scent, and you in general. They’re probably just scared. Hope I helped :)

When I got a hamster I was told to put articles of clothing (a sock) that had my scent on it before just sticking my hand in with treats. Never got bit 👍🏽

So I’m getting my second hamster and I wanted to properly tame them, and this reminded me of my first hamster who is sadly not with us right now, ily and rip Bead :>
I basically had a hamster almost a year ago. I had her 6 months but she was sold to us at an elderly age and she died in December 12th, 2019. I got a hamster for my birthday, just over a week ago (November 3rd) and she passed away after 6 days. We found out that the reason she passed away is because the pet store sold us to her prematurely. So now I’m getting another hamster! She is a tri-colour and I will be collecting her on Sunday! (15th November). I will update you on how she goes!

Yes there have been a few unfortunate turn of events with the hamster. 3 months after we got her she started bleeding, being a bit inexperienced and complete geniuses we thought she was simply having a period… we were a little shocked to find her dead in her burrow a few days later the truth was she probably had a tumor somewhere as a result of bad breeding.

My hamster died a week and a half ago of old age (he was over two years old and lived a wonderful life) and I just got my new hamster, Chip, today! He’s a Russian winter white I think, and he’s just chilling in his cage right now. I’m so excited to tame him! Thanks for the helpful tips. :)

I just got a hamster about a week ago and I just started trying to tame him starting yesterday. He’s so brave! He’s already stepping into my hand for a treat. He’s not really that timid, I’m so surprised at how comfortable he already is :)
So did you follow these steps to get your results?
I'm picking one up this weekend, they are really young but I definitely want to do things the right way from the start.
@@beaglegod1 I left him alone for about a week then tried offering him treats and he went for it. What I noticed is he’s very curious about me and my hands so he doesn’t mind walking in them and I haven’t had to much of a difficult time trying to tame him. He does still flinch a bit when I try to pet him so I haven’t taken him out of his cage just yet to try taming him elsewhere because I want him to be as comfortable as possible. All I would say is take your time with your hamster, leave them alone for a week at least when you first get them, then slowly try taming them like the person does in the video here :) every hamster is different though. Some might be quick to wanna be picked up and some might take a lot longer. Just tame your hamster at his/her pace and everything should be fine. Good luck to you!!

I think your hamster is digging to make a connection of tunnels which take him to places kinda like any other animal which lives on/under the ground roes
