Lived in Shenzhen for two years, an outstanding city, nothing in the UK comes close to it. Absolutely agree with your commentary and always felt safe no matter where or what time of day or night in Shenzhen.
Can't beat a proper English pub and the English countryside. Although, I agree, extremely low and controlled immigration makes any place safer.
@@christufferEnglish country side is depressing… if you want peace and quiet there are plenty of destinations that beat it - NZ, CA, NL, FR, IT just to name a few. Heck the US has all the different biomes to choose from if you just want to kick back with a pint. If you want the future and a megatropolis it’s shenzhen.

It's no exaggeration on how safe the Chinese cities are. I got lost at the back lanes of Shanghai past midnight once and never did I feel threatened. If anything, a group of young people provided me directions where I needed to go. At midnight!
It,s because Chinese people where ever you find them don't walk around thinking how they can mug or Rob or assault somebody just for the fun of it.
If Chinese people don't have the money they will work until such time that they do in order to buy what they want and not go mug somebody in the street.

Literally turning deserts into forests by planting trees, the highest percentage of EVs in the world, while Americans keep their lights on 24/7, and Germany closes all nuclear power plants just to turn to coal power.
I remember around 35 years ago, I helped a friend deliver a refrigerator to his family in Shenzhen from Hong Kong. His family only just got electricity connected and couldn't afford to buy a fridge. How times have changed, not just Shenzhen but the whole of China.
Soon it will turn into North Korean style society. It was better under previous leadership. Xi Jinping is making it a North Korea.

Shenzhen is nice, but unless you are there on business or passing through to HK, I think most other cities in China are better to visit.

I moved to Shenzhen about 23 years ago after my university. Now I have a family here with my 2 kids. I lives nearby GuangXia North Metro Station for many years, acctually I watched how these tall buildings and metron were built in these years. When I first visited here, there are nothing around these areas, and now it have the most tallest 300m+ building of the world, even more than Shanghai + Tokyo. And SZ is the most business friendly city of China. It's simply a miracle city of human history.
I remember Hongkong was modern and Shenzhen was backwards.
Now it's the other way around.

I am jealous in a way that i cant go there despite my financial status . My ancestors came from China … i life is all complicated when i grew up in the States . The current US govern apparatus has been undersiege and now this Neocons control government is hostile against China with a possible military conflict . If it happens chances are : i will be round up and be put in their already prepare FEMA Camps somewhere just like back in WW2 with the American Japanese . Honestly my best years were as expat in Shanghai, so much happening, exciting to live, places to go and do. Clean, safe every couple of week its wow something changed and honestly back home it's the same every single day including the same pothole for the last 3 yrs never fixed. Aye... too expensive to live there. Priced out.

I'm interning here, It's nice but it's dumb hot and humid, too humid for me to live in. As a Westerner I'd prefer to live in Shanghai the weather is better and it's more international from my experiences so far.

We went few days back, Futian is amazing, nice clean and shiny ! However we were a bit surprised with how people ride those electric bikes on the footpath, they almost ran over me a few times 😂
