Awesome production value! and thanks for sharing the positive aspects, which there are plenty of!
Talk talk talk
I got laid off early this year and I found most of the jobs that were giving me interviews were for security jobs. Iâve always done security but for part of my career as part of DevOps and Linux engineering. But I decided why not, go back into security, itâs interesting, Iâm good at it and companies obviously want to pay me for it. So I got my CISSP and Iâm now happily working as a security architect again.
I recently. finished my Google Cybersecurity Professional Certificate. I have no knowledge in cybersecurity space prior to taking the course. After finishing Google Cybersecurity, I can say that I have gained tons of information as well as valuable hands-on experience.
Currently, I am studying for CC and actively blasting resumes.
Tomorrow I will be interviewing for SOC Analyst 1 position at an outsourcing company. Not expecting to get hired but I want to experience the feeling of getting an interview in the field of Cybersecurity.
@@dewdrop198 I only experienced C language back in college. I was forced to learn it for my microcontroller project
@@dewdrop198 you donât need background coding experience to start out, from what Ive learned cyber security is mostly about logic and understanding of the system you are operating. In order to advance further into the job field and potentially make much more money you will need to have some coding experience which you will have gained along the way donât let the idea of coding stop you
â@@dewdrop198u don't need coding for cybersecurity except some specific roles
â@@dewdrop198I don't believe one needs coding experience. I just jumped into cybersecurity from the financial world with zero coding knowledge. People who work in the industry that I've talked to say that they don't use any coding, but base level knowledge of how to read code helps a ton I've learnt. If coding is holding you back, as was the case with me, I talked to some people in the space, and they reassured me to not let that get in the way.
I'd love to hear how your interview went. I'm curious, for experience on your resume, did you list anything IT related outside of the Coursera course? Wondering if it's enough to hand out resumes with, without any other experience other than the Google cert.
I started started the coursera certificate right after watching this video. Loving it so far, thanks for the idea.
Great video as always Grant!
wow this was a huge change from your original perspective! thank you for sharing the positive aspects of the field!
Happy to share!
Great video and thanks for sharing!
That was very moving thankyou
Thank you for posting this I am starting a completely new career from health and customer service now to cybersecurity Cloud engineering is my goal as much as I am saying it's so hard to get a job no one is hiring yet they need us is very discouraging however I keep going and to hear that you're still promoting it makes me feel better I know I'm going to get a job
Great video, clear explanation...Recommended Channel!
Hey grant love your stuff and my forever passion is security. I'm really interested in getting into the field! Great video.
I love being a Software Sec Engineer. So much to learn and explore in the cyber world :)
Thank you for the helpful video đ
Iâm glad you mentioned GRC. Hidden gem, to me. I learned so much because I work with different teams and people on every level of the org⊠even all the way up to SVPs.
Thatâs the route Iâm trying to get into. GRC. Itâs hard cause most want years of experience. I have experience working with compliance and doing audits and risk assessments but as a surveillance agent at a casino using physical security
Thank you so much Grant for your sentiment on the field. I've been contemplating what would be the best way to get some experience in this industry. I'm currently enrolled in college for said Cyber Security Networking IT, however, I feel that sometimes what's being taught by the professor tends to feel outdated or the professor themselves isn't fully immersed in what they're teaching. Thus leading to me being uninterested and unmotivated. I'm hoping after I try out this course it can change my perspective on things.
Happy to share the perspective. Keep at it. I thought the same when it came to professors and university classes.
This motivated me alot, thanks for such a good video
Happy to share!
Hi, could you please make a video (or a series) about the basics of kali? Some initial/amateur tools? Maybe something to search network, or enconde data, track packets...
I'm really interested in getting into the field! Great video
Happy to help.
Hey grant love your stuff and my forever passion is security
Thanks for the kinds words!
Thanks Grant, you're one of the good ones in the community.
Thank you for the kind comment @zedsec
I'm into Cloud Security which is very new đ.
But it seems niceee. The best part is you get Soo absorbed time passes without you knowing
Sounds like something i like
I'm going to school for it right now!
I am just finishing this course. It is fantastic!! Just Do it!! you won't be disappointed. The price is fantastic!
How long have you been studying Google Cybersecurity bro?
So itâs my senior year in high school and I figured I needed to start really really taking control of my life I was thinking about doing hvac but honestly with all the technology and the WiFi and companyâs using it I think that itâs in great demand and cybersecurity is what I want to pursue I want advice on how to get into cybersecurity the things I need in collage for it and how I need to approach cybersecurity
Iâm currently a HVAC apprentice and Iâm looking for a career change after being nothing but verbally abused for the last year. Computers have always interested me and I applied for my local Cyber security boot camp. What do you guys think about this as a way to break into the industry?
sounds nice. good luck on your learning journey! it's a good way to start your career if you didn't get a traditional cybersecurity degree.
Thanks man, it is very motivating video to get start in this field. As I am new in this field, could you tell me the best book for beginner so that I can refer it, whenever I get stuck.
someone took over my pay pal account and they won't let me buy anything on Ebay or Mercari or anything . ANY SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO FIX THIS ?
I am studying my bachelor's degree in E-commerce but I have a great interest in cyber security can I study master's in cybersecurity after bachelor's in E-commerce I mean can I get into cybersecurity without CS degree???
In your experience, what is the most effective way to build skills with/"master" python?
So for those who have experience in cybersecurity (soc analyst, IR, etc) should go for comptia sec+?
Well.I hope even though here in Italy it sucks with salaries everywhere...I think Iâll live somewhere else.. i'm doing compit+ plus and i will do also CompTIA PenTest+ then Iâll definitely make other ....then Iâll also do the diploma in IT. unfortunately I couldnât even do the studies I wanted..
yes sir
Cybersecurity or Web Developer? which one easier and job opportunities?
I want to ask you: how can I find courses open for this field? Thank you đ
I got a cybersecurity fundamentals certificate & Networking cable certification. Not sure if it's a good thing or bad thing.
I just started đđđ
Second year Computer Science Student here. I wanna peruse cybersecurity career problem I don't which path should I choose. I did Google IT support certificate now I'm going for Google cybersecurity certificate. After I will do N+ and Sec+ hopefully I will find the right path, as for now I'm all over the place
Hi Grant!
I'm in my senior year of high school and have been seriously considering Cybersecurity for several months, particularly in trying to become a SOC Analyst.
I have been studying the Google Cybersecurity certificate on Coursera for two weeks now, just the available material for the "audit" option as I can't afford to pay for the whole program right now.
At the moment I'm unsure whether or not it's in my best interest to try and get a degree in cybersecurity. Although I am aware many businesses are degree-hungry, a lot of people also recommend learning through a handful of certifications and personal projects for the hands-on experience instead of spending four years for a bachelors degree.
I'm currently eligible for a program that would have my school district pay for my first year in college, so I was possibly thinking of getting an associate's degree and studying for the Security+ or Blue Team Level 1 certificate after I have completed the Google Cybersecurity cert, on top of a few personal projects.
Any input would be greatly appreciated! Many thanks.
Do it. Cybersecurity is only growing more and if you donât want to spend four years at college just get your associateâs and get your security plus. Thereâs many free resources out there to help you prepare for the security plus. Try to get an internship while youâre in school to build experience. Iâm currently a biology major working in a lab and the pay is decent but not enough. Money isnât the only reason Iâm changing my career but I found I have a high interest in cybersecurity. I decided to make the switch to the tech field but still working at my current job. Itâs definitely not easy teaching myself but Iâm committed to make the switch to tech. Good luck with your studies and continue watching Grantâs videos as well as others out there who provide valuable information about cybersecurity and their own path to cybersecurity.
â@@AngelRamirez-ot5mohi I'm just wondering, I have no experience in cyber security+IT but I am really interested in learning it and I was wondering approx how long would it take for me to acquire the skill?
What is your advice for people creating a cybersecurity youtube channel and how long it takes to get recognised by the infosec community
Start with small, concise videos which provide educational overview of a topic. Stay consistent.
any advice for Canadian beginners like me?đ.. I'm doing the Google certificate right now
Which device you suggest to use for overall IT COURSES
A laptop or desktop with a decent processor and 16 GB+ RAM.
Hi Grant! Love the video, I am a project manager with around 4 years of managing agile development projects, recently I took up a role as a security project manager, (gonna work in security audit) would appreciate if you could guide me on a road map to get into cyber security. Also, I'm from a non coding background, only know basic C which I did in my electronics degree.
Are you working for a government agency or in the private sector?
Can i choose cyber Security field as a future I aslo like to work
Almost a year ago I contacted you about which career path I should choose in IT. Recently I managed to make the necessary investments and moved into the cyber security area once and for all. I'm going into the pentest area, I started training to learn and get a junior level certification and it's been incredible.
(if you want an intern who is starting out in cyber security, đI'm here...)
It appears you are on the right track. Keep at it đ
hey man where can i contact you?
Guys, cyber security jobs is not something to think about. Since 2018 group of 120 completed a 6 months boot camp, CompTIA certifications, penetration test certifications, GRC and PCI DSS framework, six months internship⊠none of us has a cyber security job. Itâs a waste of time, getting a job in this field itâs about who you know not what you know.
Thatâs because âcybersecurityâ is not an entry-level field. Itâs for individuals who have prior experience in some other type of technical role (such as networking, sysadmin, or development).
@patm8251 I have a hard time believing this.
@@ethanford7428 They pray on peopleâs emotions, none of them will tell you how much difficult it is to break into cyber security. These are the common words they use to get your money.
1. There is 700 K shortage of cyber security professionals in the US đșđž alone
2. As soon as you get your CompTIA Security+ under your belt, employers will start calling you every day.
3. Do you want to get an annual salary of 6 figures?
Hey man I wanna get started in cybersecurity, I donât have prior experience and am looking at 6-8 months courses but before I start Iâve looked at other videos on YT and a lot of people recommend learning and going through the course curriculum and get a better understanding of what I will be doing, do you have any any advice or tips
It seems challenging and time consuming which Iâm willing to put in the time and hard work, but there is a part of me worried I wonât be able pick it up
I spent 5k for a cyber course was it worth it not really youâre better off learning online and paying for courses here and there
4:25 You lost me at âSpecifical â

Namaste sir good evening đ watching from India đđâ€â€â€â€â€â€â€â€
Hello!
Idk what the hell cyber security even is i know what it is but why is there no simple explanation for it....?
Sir please suggest new gen mid budget laptopa for cyber security.
Lenovo X1 Carbon, Dell XPS are decent laptops.
@@collinsinfosecyeah, but in India it's very costly. It's price like macbook.
đ
Any web developers here that could maybe teach me a bit I only know a little bit of html and css
is this google certificate enough to actually get hired?
No online certificate is. Use certificates like Coursera to figure out what you want to specialize in, figure out projects, complete those and add them to your resume. The certificate just shows you're willing to keep learning either post-graduation or on your own time. (Unless it's an accredited certification, which I see as different from just online certificates.)
What's the cost for the course?
Do it for free. Audit the individual courses. You won't get the certificates, but honestly they hardly matter anyway. Just absorb the knowledge and show you know how to employ it.
Do u work as a splunk engineer/tier 1 soc analyst or a instant responder??
Associate security engineer. Equivalent of an Level 1.
Are you 23 or 24 years old??
pov, you just watched mr.robot
Hey man I like your video, I am finishing my associate in criminal justice. I would like to do my bachelors in cybersecurity. I wanna use the cybersecurity knowledge to the criminal field. What do you think?
step 1: getting into it :(
I have a degree in cyber security but the demand is so short here for entry level positions that I gave up and decided to look for helpdesk IT
Have you thought about remote positions?
I prefer remote positions as well, thousands of applications and not a single interview from a cyber security position.@@mason35715
I actually found that LinkedIn has tons of job post opportunities including remote ones for cybersecurity
