  • In todays episode of the Lima class 37 project we shall attempt to make the loco shine by adding directional lighting to the model. Come and follow me on the journey as we drill holes, paint noses and solder in electronics as we bring a new lease of life to the locomotive. Enjoy!

37223 did have high intensity lights fitted by the time it went in to RF coal sector livery. You can get high intensity light mouldings with lenses from somewhere. I bought a pack of ten recently, if I remember where I'll post it. Quite easy to do in comparison to the other work you have done here.

There were two main arrangements of lights on Cl37s as built. Centre headcode and split headcode. The 37/4s were all rebuilt out of centre headcode versions so that kit should be fine for any centre headcode version.

Great Video but my 37 Lima 37 401 (Mary Queen of Scots ) has only two wires? i was going to fit lights and a sound decoder but???

Does your 37 have a small hole in the chassis next to the dummy bogie clip? If not don’t worry but if it does there should be a wire running from a set of wiper pickups to the motor there. Fitting sound and lights should be a relatively simple job

@@fyfieldjunction hello mate its there alright but no wire!....looks like the contact and wire have been removed from the bogie I had it running without the wire on dc first it was OK? Got the R8249 connected and working but the lights on the layout are flickering when the loco runs by???

Ah ok I see. As long as the loco runs fine without those pickups then you should be fine, the loco will just be more prone to cutting out. When you say the lights are flicking it sounds like something is temporarily shorting or there’s a dodgy connection somewhere

@@fyfieldjunction all the rest of my locos are fine running past the lights (2x 6 LED strips running on the 4 amp hornby transformer through the select) just the 37! missing wire contact??

Where did you get the light boards from ? You did a cracking job of it

Thanks mate. The boards were purchased off of eBay. Sellers name is stickswipe. He does various lighting kits for various Lima/Hornby railroad models. This particular one is out of stock atm but should hopefully be back soon. Very easy to fit with excellent results 👍
