This performance got BTS a spot in the most aftersought KPop groups. It is in this award show (2014) that BTS got it's first award in a big show for New Artist Award. And, BTS did really shock the KPop global fans, earning more ARMY fans. Sadly, this performance heightened BTS struggle against big power in the industry, even big figures in politics due to their lyrics, factoring in mental health issues of the youth rooting, basically, from the poor attention of their government in the very tough educational standard system, social stigma, societal inequalities, and social media bullying that have been greatly contributing to the high ratio of suicide cases among youth in SK. BTS music contributed in putting mental health issues on the table talk when they released their single "Spring Day." Since 2015, BTS as a group has been secretly donating in groups that address and support mental issues. Since then, the psychology society in SK was given an important role in its society.
BTS route to stardom was practically blocked in the KPop industry as the group brought the threat of 180' change which lead Bighit and BTS to branch out by doing tours abroad (Japan, Malaysia Philippines, and in the US) that gave them the global recognition before they got back home in 2016 (Blood, Sweat and Tears and Fire era of BTS) to reclaim their rightful spot that was robbed of them since their debute in 2013 to 2015. Come 2017, they started conquering the social media awards at Billboards, five times in row (2017-2021) or until Billboards removed such category in their annual awards shows.
The only real tattoo is "Nevermind". JK was not yet an adult at this time so he had no tattoo at this time.

Zico and RM have been very good friends since their underground rapping days and we're schoolmates when RM moved to Seoul for joining Bighit. Later, he became good friends with Jhope after RM introduced them.
After all, who can hate our adorable and ever humbled BTS boys. So far, they are the most loved and respected by and among their piers in the KPop industry due to their candid courtesy to everyone. BTS, being nice, is not only popular to their fellow KPop idols. BTS is even more nice to the staff and crew, BigHit or not, who work behind the camera.
I don't think they won an award on this show. I looked it up. They weren't even nominated. Block B won 6 awards. They won "Best New Artist" at the 2013 MMA.
@@ideagirlYou are talking about MMA. This is MAMA 2014. Saw it in a MAMA documentary video. This performance was not supposed to be a battle instead to showcase a new generation of KPop in the name of Block B and BTS, until on the day of the performance when the management decided to make it look like a battle to hype the show. And , it did! According to Bighit, Jimin's part was a last minute decision upon getting the instruction from the MAMA management just few minutes before the performance started. If you notice, RM's self-writtrn rap line was intended to complement Zico's song. Zico did say something about the sudden shift of the theme of their performance with BTS. This is also the performance which earned BTS of its participation in American Hassle Life.
I feel sorry in way for both BTS and Zico Block B as neither group were expecting for it to be a battle and neither found out it was being billed as such until they arrived I think BTS found out in the car on way, their companies didn't know either.

BTS won quiet a few newcomer awards in the 2013/2014 winter awards season in SK.
I think they were nominated in 2013 MAMA for male Newcomer but not invited.
MAMA is more than a bit shady anyway despite being labeled the biggest Kpop Award show.
The tattoo back than was not real but he did get a real "Nevermind" tattoo. I think the other word means Bangtan Sonyeondan.
Zico has made his own label KOZ and debuted a boygroup called BOYNEXTDOOR. Bang talked him into putting the label under HYBE.

They said after the battle that they knew they had lost as soon as Jimin tore off his shirt. The tats on Jimin during the battle were not real, but he did get Nevermind (Suga's song) tattooed on his ribcage later, He also has the number 13, on his wrist, young on one forearm and forever on the other forearm, youth behind his ear and the number 7 on his finger (which they all have as a friendship tattoo) and then the moon phases on his back. I don't think I missed any but I am sure someone will add one if I missed it,

Zico - Block B's rapper - is a good friend of Namjoon's. They even have a collab from their underground days under their old stage names.

yes, i don't understand why there has to be "wars" between fandoms or hates toward anyone of these groups. the amount of creativity every one of them contribute to humankind is massive and if we look closely, can foster international relationships and therefore world peace. we just have to remember to be respectful, kind and positive. These fights - sometimes even physical - already existed in first gen. .
The song BTS performed with is named Danger. Danger is from their first official album, that was recorded in a small garage BIGHIT loaned, from a friendly ass dude. You should def check the MV out next reaction! It’s the song that got me into BTS, it’s one of their best songs - I also discovered them in 2015, so I’m a pretty big veteran ARMY, and experienced as well.
The tattoos in the video is fake, Jimin did however get real tattoos later! So the ones he performed with in 2015, is fake - today he got real tattoos!
Also, quickly, this battle was a friendly battle - it was to help BTS rise more to fame, as in 2015, they were financely struggling and were barely known - and got a lot of hate. They were more inexperienced with it and didn’t know how to handle it, so RM lied and made the hate into positive sayings when the boys asked him what people said and wrote. So Block B did this battle with them, to help with their rise to fame.
Also because Zico (the guy who rapped Tough Cookie with RM), who was leader of Block B, knows RM who went by Rap Monster in 2013-2015 to 2016 or so, knows SUGA and RM from the underground rapping grounds, where RM and Suga was very well known! They got lots of hate for leaving the underground rapground to the idol scene, they eventually earned the respect back very quickly.

@@skmalan60 I’m happy I taught you a bit, apart from what I told in my main comment, Agust D is fx chosen by Suga because it mixes Suga and his home town Daegu. RM went by Rap Monster from 2013-2015 or so as mentioned. But due to him not liking to have monster in his stage name, he changed stage name a few times until he landed on RM. You will catch up eventually, I will comment info here and there if it’s need or Nesto reacts to videos like this - which is a highlight of the boys’s journey to fame. This specific collab didn’t do a HUGE favor, but it did enough that they got more attention after that because of J-Hope’s dance move and Jimin ripping his shirt. All the food the boys had, went to Jimin so he could keep his abs in shape - and they were still sharing a dorm together, and they all 7 slept in one little room together. So they had nothing but still kept going to them finding you 3 years ago. I am rusty in knowledge, but I am not that rusty that I forgot some hightlights like their 2015 era, which is where they found me
Jimin's tats in this 2014 video (NEVERMIND across his chest, and the Chinese characters down his torso) were temporary tats. However, in 2018 he had a real tat done of the NEVERMIND starting on his side under his arm and going across his chest. In the years since then he's added several more. The word "young" above the back of his left elbow, and the word "forever" above the back of his right elbow. A 13 on one wrist, the word "Youth" behind his ear, and the phases of the moon going down his spine. And his BTS member/friendship "7" tat is on his finger.

Both Exo & SHINee were in the audience along with quite a few other big time idol groups! It was one of their first introduction to BTS performances, at least Jimin’s stunningly memorable performance, both groups, especially certain members, Jimin later on became quite close friends with! Especially Kai from EXO & Taemin from SHINee, both who are also the Main Dancers from their groups. 👍🥰

There is another 'battle' (more like collaboration stage) between BTS with another kpop group called GOT7 in MAMA 2015. If Block B is BTS senior, then GOT7 is BTS junior. Namjoon has really good relationship with Jackson, a rapper from GOT7 (he is gone solo now under Jackson Wang name, he is one of most eccentric solo rapper. You should check his solo work). And Jungkook is close with all GOT7 members but his being known close friendship with Yugyeom coz they are in same age (97 liners). Almost kpop idol who born 97's is being a friend to each other even they created a group chat only for idol who born 97's. Jin also have his own group chat with idol who born in 92's

This is actually MAMA 2014 ( took place in Dec 2014). The next year would be a reset with the amazing HYYH era (which Jimin’s tattoos were promoting).

This "battle" was done for entertainment purposes for this awards show. Both groups were showcasing their current songs. BlockB had already been around for 2 yrs when BTS debuted in 2013, so it was an honor for BTS to be able to do "battle" and perform with them like this. BlockB is now, unfortunately, disbanded, with some of their members going solo. Their former main rapper who went one-on-one with RM is Zico, who is a well-known powerhouse in the industry. Fun fact: the label that Zico is under, KOZ, was aquired in 2020 by HYBE Labels, the same corporation that BTS's label BigHit is part of, so now he's officially part of the "family".
Zico founded KOZ. It's more or less his label. In fact he owns the highest percentage of anyone else under their HYBE labels.

Zico, the leader of Bock B, was an underground rapper before débuting with Block B in 2011. He was (and still is) a good friend of RM. He created his own label , Koz Entertainment, few years ago, and is now under Hybe umbrella. This 2014 MAMA "battle" is legendary : Block B was already established, not young BTS (just one year after their début), but then Jimin ripped his tee-shirt and.... game over. He killed the compétition Lol !

This reminds me like a month ago when I saw a tiktok from a Block B fan talking about the day he saw live how BTS ended his favorite group and how crazy it was lol. Anyways, BTS talked about that performance in detail on their "Beyond The Story" book. They said they were facing a lot of criticism and were having a hard time + at that time a rapper dissed many idols rappers in a popular rap show in korea including RM. So, Namjoon the day before or something like that decided to change his lyrics and added a part responding to what that rapper said (Namjoon said he didn't took it personal bc dissing in hip hop is a thing but he still wanted to respond and bc BTS received a lot of hate). Bangtan really gave their everything for this battle and bc they ate so bad people ended up really surprised and they gained more recognition and fans!! They really shut everyone up 🔥🔥

Block B is 2nd generation while BTS is 3rd generation. The two groups thought this was suppose to be a collaboration performance. Sort of a passing on the torch to the next generation. The producers/directors of the show had other plans which they did not share with the two groups. Zico (Block B's rapper) said in a recent interview that he regrets that they were pitted against each other. He and RM did not know until the came on stage and saw the VS. signs. He also said if it was a battle, Block B lost the moment Jimin tore off his shirt.

Actually BTS wasn't really friends with many other groups. They were kinda ostracized from the industry, often made fun of because they were from a poor small company and all the other groups were from the Big 3 entertainment industries who had all the influence and resources. There is so much backstory you're missing out of. But I digress. BTS has always been different with autonomy to make their own music. Most other kpop groups don't. They are given music, a theme, choreo. Etc and they just do what their told. And kpop groups are disposable. Its a huge 3 billion dollar industry. But flash forward and BTS created the behemoth Big Hit/Hybe over taking all other companies. Sorry. Its a lot. 💜

The story of this night is BTS legend. It was almost a make it or break it night. BTS' most recent album was being received as well as the last. Bobby had issued a dis-track about RM and RM really needed to answer it with messing up the performance. Before the dance battle.. Jimin was still shy (did he look it? 😂) about even showing his abs... but they needed his edge, so he did it. Later, Bobby said when Jimin took off his shirt, he knew it was a BTS win. JHope slammed his knee down so hard!

Nesto, you have been watching a lot of the newer content. But "fetus/baby" BTS was/is HOT. It shows their hunger and how they eventually became world renown and known globally. It was a h3ll of a climb and battle. 10/11 YEARS of work and content. We found each other (BTS & I) in 2016. So, when I re-watch older content I try to put myself into that year and look at it that through that context. It does help me look at their work a different way. 2014 was the first time BTS were at the MAMA on the main stage they did the collaboration with Block B and on the red carpet stage they did their first performance on mama also Block B did a performance on the red carpet stage. 2015 they did a collaboration with Got7 but also did performance as just their group. 2016 was the first full performance as just them as a group. They continued performing every year up to 2021 and in 2022 J-hope did his solo performance on the stage. They have done performance on MMA since 2013 as a group up till 2021 and J-hope did his solo performance 2022. There is other awards shows that they have performed on some years but not every year as the above mentioned.
Other award shows are GDA (Golden Disc Awards) performance on that stage are Idol 2018 that they made the artists area for the other artists move surprising the artists sitting, there is fan cams that you can see the artists reaction to it happening. Also their performance of Idol have made the stage start to collapse and the staff under the stage was holding it up so they could finish their performance, I think during a concert, this was filmed by their film team for their behind the scenes documentary for their concert. They chose to show it happening, the group was told after they gotten of the stage for a short break before they finished the concert that they could not dance for the last songs and they did some last minute changes to witch songs they could perform.
Another is their performance on SBS Gayo Dejun 2017 then Suga decided to show that they are not lip syncing, the negative people had claimed that they can’t sing live and dance at the same time after their performance on AMA earlier that year.
Then it’s the video that is titled performance intro, this video was done as an answer on the bad camera work of their performance on MBC end of the year celebration 20141231, if you see the live performance they did this intro to their song Danger, it would have been impressive if not for the cameras being all over the place and showing them in odd angles. At the time they were a newer group from a small company so they didn’t have any power to say how they wanted it filmed. In the video it’s shown in three different camera angles, this is something they have continued to do with some added angles and other techniques that are know possible. A small way of saying you messed up this performance how it should be seen.
As other have mentioned they know each other and Zico is the leader of Block B, the two dancers are U Know and B Bomb, the guy with the hat and glasses is Taeil, with the deep voice and white and black “fur coat” is P-O and is the youngest, Kyung is the lead rapper but also a vocalist and Jaehyo is a vocalist and the visual of the group.
If you search for bts and block b on mama you can find behind the scenes video of the planing and decide how they are doing their performance, the exemption is Jimin ripping the shirt.
BTS has done other collaborations with other artists both in videos and in performance on different awards shows or music programs examples: Vixx, 2pm, Got7, Re: On Soul a dance group in Mexico for a performance on Music Bank in Mexico 2014, Jo Kwon from 2am has done a collaboration with J-hope before the group had their debut, and more.

Their leader (Zico) is from underground rapper, he is also a senior of Namjoon in underground hiphop scene (they are in different hiphop crew, but Namjoon has work/collab with Zico several of times back then). But now BlockB has disbanded, Zico make his own label named KOZ entertainment. But later his label joined Hybe as Hybe subsidiary, it make Zico n BTS from same company now but under different subsidiaries. He already debuted his own kpop idol named boysnextdoor under KOZ label.

So most get them when traveling to other countries.. These,cat the time, are widely thought to be fake. HOWEVER the Nevermind tattoo kept showing up and one day it was real. Jimin now has the NEVERMIND tattoo for real. He got it on his chest in honor of Yoongi's song Intro: Nevermind. He then got the phases of the moon down his back, starting with the phase of the moon from the day the debut. He has 3² 13 on one wrist. That is his lucky number... and JK's. He has "Forever" above one elbow and "Young" above the other. He has "Youth" behind his left ear. His fr8enship 7 tatto is on his index finger. For the longest only hecandvJK had tattoos. But now the all have a number 7 somewhere. For instance Suga's is on his shoulder that he injured.
