- The Jackson JS1X Minion Bass is not some toy. It is a legitimate instrument made for anyone looking for something comfortable, portable and affordable. The Jackson Minion series guitars and basses punch way above their price range in my opinion and in this video, we will look at why you should consider picking up a Jackson Minion bass, especially if you are a guitar player looking for a bass for recording at home!

Played this bass in marching band. Loved it so much. Now it’s broken but I used it for 4 years before I had issues. Going to be fixing soon
I say it's worth it to fix it!
Thank you, you've helped me make my decision 🤘
Hell yeah, man! ⚡️🦩
Nice review! I'm gonna have to keep an eye out on the used listings. It'd be fun to add a real bass to demos again. I've also been thinking about giving the Mitchell MB100 short scale a shot since it's on sale at MF right now.
They are fun and like I said, as a guitar player, they are definitely more comfortable to play. It would be nice to see your take on a short scale something!
Take a look also at the Ibanez miKro bass. It comes in about six colors and weighs under seven pounds, and has a 28.6 inch scale. In fact, the lightest one is the weathered black, and it comes in at 6.2 pounds. They also have a five string. I own all of them. They're all great and fun to play. I would say that the finish on the Ibanez miKro is a little sturdier and doesn't bang up quite as easily as the Minion, but I do love my Minion, and I put nylon tape wounds on it.
I have one of these, and I put D'Addario short-scale nylon tape wounds on it, and it sounds incredible. I also did an engineering design for a Fender-like pick guard, and sent it to a guy in North Carolina who made it for me in white pearl, and that also looks incredible.
Just bought mine and love it!!!!!!
They are great little things!
One crazy feature of these is they have graphite reinforcement rods in the neck.
Interesting review many thanks must admit to enjoying a dabble in bass every now and then
It's fun from time to time. A lot of riffs that I write on guitar stem from me noodling on a bass, believe it or not. That's how I wrote the demo for this video!
@@Electric.Flamingo Must admit your really an awesome guitarist. I'm trying to learn speed picking at the moment so trying not to pick up the bass too much to concentrate on my playing development
Well thank you, I really appreciate that! Best advice for speed picking...small movements. It helps with changing strings while picking as well.
Awesome dude
Thanks for checking it out!
Thanks! Great review.
Thanks for checking it out! ⚡️🦩
Nice video! Have you experienced andy tuning/intonation issues? Also, the strings are not regular "full bass" strings or...?
I set the intonation and everything on it, no issues and the tuning is rock solid, believe it or not. They are full on bass strings, you just cut them short when you change them so they fit, but it's a bass through and through. Thanks for checking out the video! ⚡️🦩
Started on a Mitchell MB200, and I'm a shorter guy with small fingers and not enough reach for a long bass neck. Brother switched it out with this for his birthday, and super glad because this thing has a BIG sound for a little bass! It also feels really good to play. Fun to learn on for sure. Only thing I don't like is that it actually has a neck dive, when you let it hang idle
See, I'm a taller guy with bigger hands and I still prefer this to a regular bass. 😅
Haha yeah, and it still fits perfectly. Perfect little showpiece for a cheap bass ^^@@Electric.Flamingo
Very nice!
Thanks! ⚡️🦩
Bought one recently, I'm really happy with it, but I noticed some fret buzz just on the 4th string , can it be adjusted to have a more clean sound?
It's possible. There are a few things you could do:
Check the frets around the area where it is buzzing with a fret rocker and see if there are any high spots.
Check to make sure the neck isn't twisted.
Go down a string gauge. Thicker strings may require a slightly higher action than you may be used to, but if you like a lower action, lower the string gauge.
Try adjusting the truss rod.
If it's beyond the 12th fret, adjust the saddles.
Hope this helps!
Hi, serious question, is it just the way it looks, or is the low E string VERY close to the edge of fretboard ? ANY problem with string roll off ? Thanks, Philip.
Probably just the way it looks here, I don't have issues with roll offs. It's all centered pretty well.
Hey 👋- just watched your review, why? Cuz I’m getting this shorty tomorrow! I’m waaay older than you but have played piano all my life and was looking into a new “healthy “ hobby. Interestingly, I tried guitar but my hands couldn’t sustain the pressure. Also, I found it funny because I realize both my hands were continuing as if I was playing piano still… in a way NOT usable for guitar .
Which got me to realize I’m going to try bass- I read going from piano to bass is a natural learning curve, and I can play it by ear, mostly. My biggest concern is I have no idea about the set up of the set up.???? 😮
Thanks for the fun review. Oh, got mine used 153$ on the money as you said 😉
Hey there! If you're concerned about the set up, I actually have a video on my channel that goes in depth on how to set up your guitar. It'll work with bass just the same!
@@Electric.Flamingo can you relay that back to me? I’ve searched but can’t find it on your page:)
What was your sigbal chain in this video, amp sim, amp.pre amp pedal?
Amp sim!
never played guitar but i kinda want that cause it sound awesome and i can experiment with chords without huge hands xD
For about $200, it's worth it dude. Go to a shop and try one out if you can!
dose the small scale deffret than long one?
with sound
Sound wise, not so much. You might notice a bit more flub if you don't put the strings on right, but other than that, no big differences in sound from a regular scale!
His tone sound like a cheap mini guitar amp that has little to no bass control. I got this little beast and through a real bass amp it sound way better
Cool, man. Sorry you didn't like my mix, I guess.
is this bass ok to drop tune to drop d or maybe even drop c as i am into heavy metal but my hands are too small for a full scale
I regularly record with mine in drop C. It absolutely handles it like a champ!
@@Electric.Flamingo this was helpful thank you
